Did you know that collagen and gelatin are the same thing? It's called collagen inside the body and forms connective tissue i.e. skin, tendons, ligaments etc. It's called gelatin when skeletal tissue and other animal waste is rendered down as a by product of meat production. (Vegans and vegetarians take note! This is where collagen comes from whether you swallow it or apply it externally!) A rose by any other name...

Whatever the beauty industry tells us, (and they try hard to convince us), both substances are broken down to exactly the same amino acids in the digestive system and used to repair and build new proteins.

The offer of collagen powder on GN today normally retails at £6.25 per 100g (40% off your first order fetches it down to £2.50/100g. The offer is a 400g tub for £24.99)

Amazon sells a gelatin powder for approx £1.60 per 100g. Some is even cheaper.

paleoleap.com/all-about-gelatin-and-collagen Read right to the end of this one. It's not long winded and won't blind you with science! If it doesn't work as a link, just copy and paste or type it in.

I'm glad so many people are engaging with this thread. It was indeed GN who were promoting the collagen supplement. I just offered a price comparison. I didn't spot an option to buy anything on the link I posted. I'll take another look.

My son was taking issue this morning over the US insistence that tomatoes are a vegetable not a fruit, because they are not sweet, so my contribution today is: Did you know that the part of a plant that contains seeds is (botanically speaking) a fruit? So that includes tomatoes, bell peppers, pumpkins, squashes, cucumbers etc. So the pods that contain beans, peas etc. are also fruits. Rhubarb is a stem, not a fruit.

NotAGran55 No offence taken ?

I have read that Meghan Markle is descended from King Edward and Jane Seymour. Who knew?

£20 a week is roughly £1000 a year. Good for the numerically challenged like myself!

Apologies to Lizziepopbottle ?

Dodos were first reported in 1598 and were extinct by 1662…

Did you know badgers, and some others in the weasel family, can mate at any time of the year, and then store the fertilised egg (blastocyst) until they feel the time and conditions are right for the pregnancy to start. Wouldn't that be useful, hey.

grandMattie Fri 28-Jan-22 11:15:32

In Babylonian times, there was a herb called “slave girl’s thigh”. No idea what it was used for - culinary? Medicinal? (My DS loved the name !)

Dee1012 Fri 28-Jan-22 11:13:29

It's actually illegal to 'linger' around after a funeral and someone was prosecuted for this in in 2015...

Callistemon21 Fri 28-Jan-22 11:07:36

Hithere

Silphium was an herb that got extinct in Roman Empire time due to its birth control qualities

Did you know that pawpaw (papaya) seeds could act as a contraceptive?

If you want to get pregnant, don't eat pawpaw.

Riverwalk spam can be posted by anybody, including long standing posters, if it contains ‘unsolicited business promotions’ which this first post does.

Links of course are fine if in context and posters have asked for recommendations etc,

I've put on links to products before now but usually add "other retailers/outlets are available."
I think lizziepopbottle was just giving a cheaper alternative to the product being advertised by GN.

As I get up on average 3 times a night to go to the loo, I am wondering which is the "first pee of the day".

Even if it had started out as a 'spam' post (which, by the way, I'm not suggesting it is!), it's developed into something quite fun and interesting, has it not?

Lots of posters give links to products - it's not a hallmark of a spam post if the poster is a long-standing member.

NotAGran55 Fri 28-Jan-22 07:32:33

Chewbacca

Why do you say that NotAGran55? confused lizzypopbottle is a long established poster, not a spammer.

The poster chats about a product…..mentions prices….links to a website where you can purchase said product along with other services.
All the hallmarks of a spam post.

Did you know that the Galapagos Islands have a human population of about 30,000?

Perhaps you knew already, but I always thought they were uninhabited by humans.

Absolutely brilliant thread, lizzypopbottle, even tho one person seems to not have their sense of humour switched on today!

Wombats poo cubes.

Although quite funny, I have to say I'm so pleased not to be a wombat!!

Further to the benefits of wee you mentioned chewbacca it definitely works on chillblainsgrinthe itching used to drive me nuts in the bad old pre-central heating days of the '60s until I braved trying it out (armed with a tin of talc for freshness afterwards of course)
Brilliant thread lizzypopbottle even if the placenta post made me queasy!

lizzypopbottle Thu 27-Jan-22 21:32:36

Forgot to say it's called placentophagy.

lizzypopbottle Thu 27-Jan-22 21:30:55

Gagajo Some people eat their placenta. Some people throw placenta parties. Some people bury their placenta after giving birth and plant a rose bush in the hole.
