Good morning from the High Peak. Clear blue skies and a hard frost. The sun is just be over the hills.
I had a lovely day yesterday. DGS was 13 and with parents, auntie and 6 friends we had lunch at the ‘Golden Arches’ and an afternoon at the climbing centre. The boys and DD1 all had a great time scaling the walls.
A very pleasant evening with a Chinese takeaway followed all the friends going home.
Today a walk with the DDs and brunch before heading back over the Woodhead Pass to Yorkshire.
Gwen I hope you get to see your gp tomorrow. Take it easy today.
Have a good day everyone.

Candlemass is Wednesday next, 2nd February but I suppose for a Sunday church service this is the nearest to it.

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Marydoll Sun 30-Jan-22 08:38:39

Good morning all from a chilly Glasgow, its two 2° here too.

Gwen, I'm so sorry to hear you are struggling. I know how debilitating breathlessness is and how it drags you down mentally. Hopefully you will get to speak to a GP tomorrow. Would phoning NHS24 today, help?
One weekend, very breathless, I phoned NHS24 for help and they sent me to an out of hours clinic, where I was prescribed steroids and antibiotics. The prospect of not having to wait until Monday helped to settle me a bit.

Yesterday's planned quiet day turned out to be anything, but quiet. DD arrived in a very grumpy mood, having slept very badly, due to the high winds and worrying about SIL on a stag do.
She wanted to print return labels for Amazon and Ebay and proceeded to cause both my printer and PC to crash. ? It took me ages to sort them, not helped by her nipping in the background about various things. ( including our garage)
Eventually, I suggested that she go home and come back a nicer person!!

We went to the Vigil Mass last night, the first time in about five weeks. Dollie, DS1 and DIL came to sit with us. The female branch of that family were also not in the best of humour! What is it with the women in this family?
At the end of mass, a number of people came to talk to me, welcoming me back and giving me the latest news. I was sad to hear of one death and the wife of a lovely gentleman I know, came to tell me he has bladder cancer. ?
A very, impatient Dollie said to her dad and papa, "All my gran wants to do is chat, chat, chat........!" Out of the mouths of babies etc.
I could hear a fishwife yelling across the car park, "Hurry up, slow coach gran!"

Today we are unexpectedly meeting DS2, my future DIL and her parents for lunch in one of our favourite restaurants. It is halfway between both homes, so ideal. I have already chosen my meal!!
We have been unable to meet up with them because I am so vulnerable and DIL's mum and sister had been working in Covid ICU for most of the pandemic. A bit late to get to know them, especially when the wedding is only five weeks away. The two fathers will be fine, they like horse racing and follow the same football team. ?
Yesterday I thought I should really try on my wedding outfit. DD has encouraged me to wear the unworn one, which I bought for her cancelled wedding. The zip, wouldn't go up and DH tugged so strongly, I feared he would break it. His solution, " Will you be wearing fat pants with it?" ?

Things got worse when I tried on my various going out dresses (and there are many, but unworn for the last two years), nothing fits. ? I have found a high quality black bin liner to wear! ?
Stuck between a rock and a hard place, due to my ongoing heart and lung problems, which are causing extreme breathlessness, I cannot exercise, even walking a short distance is problematic. Its quite demoralising, to say the least.

Baubles that has been a long isolation for your family, hopefully you will get to see them soon. You too GM, glad to hear about Iris.

For everyone in the sick bay, I send my prayers and good wishes. Wishing you all a pleasant Sunday.

I am off to read your posts and then try the very addictive Wurdle

Grandmabatty Sun 30-Jan-22 08:54:39

Good morning all from Polmont. It's 3° at the moment and we have grey skies and a calm between storms. Storm Corrie has to hit Scotland later today and it's forecast to be bad. Gwen I'm sorry that you feel so unwell. ? Marydoll that's rotten about your outfit not fitting. Especially when you aren't really well enough to do much about it .
Yesterday was housework day and I feel better having it done. My lovely new neighbour next door had the fence panel back up in a trice. He's very handy with a drill. I can only hope there's no damage after today's storm.
Today I'm donning the glad rags and going out for lunch with friends to a local restaurant which specialises in scottish beef, game, fish and seafood. I'm looking forward to both the meal and seeing my friends as I haven't seen them since New Year. I won't need much for dinner tonight, bread and cheese probably. Have a good Sunday and stay safe.

Good morning from North Wales. Cloudy and dry for now but the wind was a bit fresh yesterday.

Will be out later for afternoon tea with my DD and family.

Hope you feel better soon Gwenisgreat.
My other DD, SiL and 2 year old GS are off to Centre Parks tomorrow. My GS says that every time he goes out he has an adventure so plenty for him at the Parks.

Hope all those who are not well or troubled have a better day and wishing a pleasant Sunday to all. ☀️

Good morning all from the Black country. We have a slight frost but it is a clear sky and sunny.
Haven't read through yet had a late night so up late this morning.
Will take a stroll for the paper, roast beef later and a read of my book.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone and may you all find some ?.

Urmstongran

Candlemass is Wednesday next, 2nd February but I suppose for a Sunday church service this is the nearest to it.

That’s right, Urms. Especially these days when worshippers only go to church on a Sunday …

NannyJan53 Sun 30-Jan-22 09:13:11

Good morning from a bright and sunny Black Country.

Yesterdays no plan day turned out to be quite busy! I decided to tidy out cupboards and drawers in the bedroom, of course one job leads to another! I did find in a box a letter sent to me from DS dated 1995 when he was at University in Liverpool. It started “Happy Mother’s Day, sorry didn’t send a card, but I couldn’t afford one” smile

Then in tidying and cleaning mode decided to clean out the large fridge in the garage. Which led to tidying out the garage. All this time MrJ was painting the Dining room walls. So a fairly productive day.

Sorry you are feeling so unwell Gwen flowers.

Ashcombe I used to leave my tax return till the last minute, now I do it early December, much less worry with it out of the way before the end of the year!

Marydoll flowers

Good morning Mick and everyone from bright and still Carlisle. Windy but no problems here yesterday.
I am planning a visit to a garden centre for which I have gift tokens, then it will be home to choose some roses online and batten down the hatches for the next storm. We have a yellow Met warning here.
You're putting a brave face on the wedding outfit upset Marydoll. I hope you find something else without too much trouble.
Gwenisgreat best wishes for getting your health sorted soonest.
And the best possible day to all.

harrigran Sun 30-Jan-22 09:21:33

Good morning from a dry NE where it is 1 degree.
DS and family didn't come yesterday, it was too dangerous in such extreme weather.
I had to go down the garden and retrieve a wheelie bin which had blown over despite being full of gardening gear. I took the opportunity to check the roof and thankfully the tiles were all in place.
DD and SIL are coming for dinner tonight and probably stay over, means we can have ? with dinner.
TV was rubbish last night so watched a film on Netflix, it was dubbed into English but it had nice music throughout and absolutely no bad language, makes a change.
Enjoy your Sunday.

Kalu Sun 30-Jan-22 09:22:33

Good morning all from a calm but yellow ominous looking sky in Glasgow, no doubt the calm before the storm which is due to return this afternoon.

Just realised last night, my passport is out of date and will apply for a new one online. No plan as yet to return to France but I hope to do so at some point this year. ?

We started to watch a TV series last night then realised halfway through we had actually seen it a few years ago, something which is happening a bit too often now, however, we couldn’t remember the ending so just continued until the conclusion.
DH turned to me a one point to say, I hear Ben Hur is a good film!?

Wishing everyone a good Sunday.

Stilllearning Sun 30-Jan-22 09:27:37

Morning from S Lanarkshire where we’re between storms I believe. I’m having a nice overnight visit with DD2 and family and am still in bed having slipped down quietly earlier and equipped myself with tea. We too went to mass last night in their lovely small church and then after dinner watched The Masked Singer which DGD adores, followed by my first game of Uno which they love and I did enjoy once I got my head round it!

Hopefully a walk with the dogs this morning then I’ll head home before Storm Corrie hits.

I hope you get the help you need from the doctor Gwenisgreat, you sound exhausted.

Wishing everyone a pleasant Sunday ???

Georgesgran Sun 30-Jan-22 09:29:29

Good morning from Durham - calm now after Malik yesterday.
I popped out for bread and milk and roads were almost impassable with 4 big trees down, overhead cables dangerously low and I began to think I should’ve stayed at home - until my neighbour rang to say half a dozen ridge tiles had slipped from my roof and landed where my car would’ve been - so a lucky escape! Spent 2 hours on hold to my Insurers and I’m to be contacted on Monday by an Independent Validator - what happened to just going ahead with repairs?? A couple of fence posts have gone, but they’re not covered. Other neighbours have lost entire fences and shed roofs.
Storm Corrie or is it Connie forecast later and tomorrow so I’m hoping for no more damage.
Off to see DGS1 now - should be fun and take my mind off the chaos here.
Have a good day.

Georgesgran Sun 30-Jan-22 09:33:26

It is Corrie. Don’t care what it’s called, as long as it doesn’t do more damage! People lost their lives yesterday, so my roof is trivial by comparison.

aggie Sun 30-Jan-22 09:34:09

Good morning everyone ? , it’s the calm between the storms here , very still and a pretty milky blue and apricot sky .
My parents were married on 2nd Feb , I was born mid Nov , I heard it cast up to my Mum when I was very little , she explained that it was because she had been wed on a feast day ? I believed that for years ! Mind you I was only 6lb ??

GrannySomerset Sun 30-Jan-22 09:45:20

Cold and bright this morning and shortly will be off to church. No other plans for today apart from making some reassuring telephone calls to kind friends who worry about me. Otherwise will enjoy Sunday paper and probably some television though I find I am not up to anything sad or violent which rules out quite a lot.

Jane71 Sun 30-Jan-22 09:48:09

Good morning everyone from the north west.
Up late following a late night, but how beautiful it is. I opened the curtains and my eyes fell on lovely snowdrops in the wild part of our garden. I love January with nature showing itself after the dark winter months.
Have a lovely day everyone.

henetha Sun 30-Jan-22 10:03:15

Hello from south Devon near Dartmoor,. A heavy frost here this morning but the sun is shining. I might drive to the coast and walk along a beach.

boat Sun 30-Jan-22 10:16:07

Good morning Mick; good morning all from my chilly bit of N. Warwickshire. My laptop says it's 1 degree, my phone says zero. I think I believe my phone.

Spoke to my son yesterday. He was in Walthamstow, East London where I lived for 41 years and he grew up.

He had gone back to see two school friends. They were in what the locals laughably call, "The Village pub".

He said, "Mum, we are like old people. We keep saying that is so different now".

I said, "if you are old what does that make me", and he said, "Sorry, I know we're only middle aged".

Best wishes to all. Have as decent a day as you can.

Chrissielou Sun 30-Jan-22 10:34:51

A beautiful sunny but frosty morning here in Oxfordshire. What a treat! Lots of cooking done yesterday so will deliver it today to DD1, its her 2nd treatment tomorrow. Will get out in the garden and do some tidying. A joy to see the sun! Beef casserole in the slow cooker so an easy dinner with roasties and Yorksire puds later. I am addicted to Wordle too Marydoll wink

Blossoming Sun 30-Jan-22 10:41:23

Good morning Mick and everybody. White cloud and blue sky in my corner of Lancashire this morning, yesterday’s wind has dropped so it’s feeling warmer, currently 7°C. We had a wonderful get together at my cousin’s home yesterday. Much good food consumed, much talk and lots of laughter. I have missed my extended family so much over the last 2 years and it’s great to be getting out again.

I ate so much I’m avoiding the scales! I have my Zoom meeting with the DPP group tomorrow, will be very quiet about yesterday’s food diary grin

Wishing you all the best possible day. May all those with worries find some comfort and all who are under the weather find some relief. ?

Blossoming Sun 30-Jan-22 10:57:12

That’s a shame about your dresses Marydoll. I’m in a similar situation post lockdown, as I suspect many others are. Fortunately some of my dresses are OK, but some lovely more fitted styles and some beautiful tops look awful as they are so tight! However I’m able to exercise, albeit limited by my impairments. I hope you can get a replacement outfit without too much hassle flowers

Grandmadinosaur Sun 30-Jan-22 11:01:02

Good morning from East Yorkshire where we have a bright sunny day.

Yesterday we went to a retail park outside York. It is close to the football ground and as they were playing in the afternoon the free parking was limited to 2 hours. With a coffee stop and toilet too it didn’t leave a lot of time for shopping. Will remember to check that next time.

I’m being lazy Gran watching the tennis whilst DH is giving upstairs a good clean. We are going to Home Bargains later as he wants to stock up on toiletries and I’m sure I will find things to buy I didn’t know I needed! Hoping to go out for lunch after that.

Sorry to hear you’re not too well Gwen hope you can get something sorted to help you feel better.

Take care everyone.

EllanVannin Sun 30-Jan-22 11:02:34

Good Morning All x.
Very still and as someone already said, the calm before the storm. I wait in anticipation. Looking back when I lived facing the river, I dreaded the storms because of the damage they caused being so open to the elements. I'm glad and relieved that I no longer have that as it used to scare me to death.

Brother had been due at Candlemass but decided to leave it until two days later smile He was christened---I wasn't ? It always puzzled me. He'll be 79 so he's catching up with me grin

Long phone-call with step-D last night but we had a good conversation of just about everything. We haven't seen each other for over 2 years now and she's not a million miles away.
It's crazy to think that she was only 10 ( I think ) when I married her dad and she's now turned 72 ! We don't see much of her brother.

Roast beef for me today so looking forward to that, with all the trimmings of course, including Yorkshire puds. Stewed apples and custard----a favourite.

A day of rest --which is nearly every day--grin but I'll get stuck in tomorrow.
Sorry to hear you're not so grand Gwenisgreat, I hope you can get yourself sorted. It's rotten when you feel unwell all the time.

Another funny, Urms and typical, for all I'm concerned smile

Those who are further North, hang on to your hats ! So sad about those who lost their lives though. Careful as you go.

Thoughts to the unwell. Have a peaceful day and stay safe xx
