Milk in pint bottles @98p

Just me, but it seems like a lot of virtue signaling to me about what you would do to help the planet. I know that recycling and all those things very often do not wind up doing anything like the good they're purported to do. Often, they are just a way for other people to make money. The waste is shipped to China to be disposed of there, and our rules keep getting stricter and stricter. As for supporting the local farmer, I am all for it. However, I do think the price that the OP discussed is plain, old fashioned gouging. I would pay more if I thought it were doing good, but I would not go anywhere near that cost.
Personally, that price sounds like a GOOP tactic (Gwyneth Paltrow, who can't do enough for the planet, but drives a gigantic SUV and charges $300 for face cream). Also, there are people who are just barely making it with the discount, all-in-one groceries. They should not be made to feel badly because they cannot afford to pay sky high prices. Cue the storm.

I wouldn't pay that much just to get my milk in a bottle. When I was a child a local dairy farmer's wife used to go round the village house to house on a horse and cart with churns on the trailer. Everyone provided their own container and she just poured the milk into your jug or bottle straight from the churn. It was always so fresh and the cream sat on top of the milk. Happy days, long gone.

Agree Money to the farmers We need to buy local but the price of this is sometimes prohibitive I try always to look for UK meat and veg when i go shopping Aldi and Lidal are very good at selling British so shop there often !!!

We buy milk from a local shop. You buy a 1 litre glass bottle first then you wash it at home and get it refilled at £0.99p a litre. We put the bottle and metal top in the dishwasher and have 2 bottles so don't run out.

I had a couple of young men at my door last summer selling milk in bottle deliveries plus other dairy products, eggs, bread and potatoes. I took their leaflet and costed what it would be to have my weekly requirements from them and it came to about £5 more than my total weekly shopping budget. It was not something I could afford then let alone now with all the price rises.

My DS and DIL have milk delivered. Or rather they did, until the milkman refused to come to their house as he'd twice been attacked by a cat who wasn't even theirs !!
So it's off to the supermarket for milk now.

We’ve had the same milkman for 42 years. I’ve stayed loyal because my Dad was a milkman - I don’t want to see the service disappear. Our milk is 75p a pint. We do buy extra from the supermarket if we run short.
