I don't wear an eternity ring as I have small hands and had enough problem finding a wedding and engagement ring which did not go half way up my finger. No way could I wear an eternity ring on the same finger it would look ridiculous on me.

My husband took me into a jewellery shop to treat me to an eternity ring when I was 50. The one I chose was an Art Deco sapphire and diamond beauty but it was a bit too big. The assistant said '"Don't have it made smaller as it will be just the right size when you have arthritis".

It took the shine off the moment a bit, but the blooming woman was exactly right, it fits like a dream now.

I was given a ruby and diamond one for our Ruby anniversary.

As others have said, I don’t wear any of my rings very often. Used to always wear my wedding and engagement ones when I was still working, but rarely put any of them on now. My wedding ring is broad, if I were getting married now, I would choose a really slim band.

Although my fingers don’t seem fatter, I think they must be.

I always wear my wedding, engagement and eternity ring. After 50 years they seem part of me and a symbol of our marriage. I also wear my opal ring that DH bought me many years ago along with my mothers engagement ring and eternity ring on my right hand. Fortunately they all still fit,it would really upset me if I could no longer wear them.

I too wear my eternity ring with engagement and wedding ring my husband gave me the eternity ring on our first anniversary 61 years ago. On my right hand my mums rings given by dad when she died in 1983. I guess they are all some of my oldest memories.

I wear mine regularly. Mr MM had an eternity ring made for me for our first wedding anniversary. We went out for lunch leaving our 3 month old daughter with MiL. He presented me with the ring while we were having a celebratory drink at the hotel. It was lovely.

I don't wear any jewellery at all (haven't worn a wedding ring for 38 years) due to an allergy to nickel I developed in my late 20s

Kim19 Thu 03-Feb-22 18:48:01

Yes, LG, I wear brooches. Change them depending on outfit, of course.

Redhead56 Thu 03-Feb-22 18:49:56

My engagement ring is art deco Ceylon sapphire and diamonds. My wedding ring and eternity ring were designed and made so they all fit together.

I am allergic to any metal or gold and was married for 67 years and could not wear my wedding ring although my hubby bought me an engagement and wedding ring. He finished up making me a brooch out of a Halifax Bomber windscreen that had been on many bombing missions during WW2 as shown because it would not be against my skin.

My husband gave me a lovely eternity ring on our 25th anniversary. I wear it on my right hand. It is a bit chunkier than my dainty engagement and wedding rings, and comfortable to wear.

I wasn't really expecting it, and it really isn't like him to spend on jewellery, but I think his sister pushed him towards the idea. She is lovely and always loves a grand gesture.

I have a ring from my mother, and one from mother in law as well, so I will sometimes swap out my right hand ring.

I don’t have an eternity ring . I have a wedding band and engagement ring.
I don’t wear them at home and sometimes forget to put them on when I go out. I’d rather forget my rings than my mascara.

I have a ruby and diamond one. DH bought it for me when our oldest DS got married. I think he saw the massive engagement ring that DS had given his wife and felt a bit guilty about the rather overshadowed (but much loved) one he had given me 30 years earlier!

Maywalk your brooch is beautiful.

Redhead56

Maywalk your brooch is beautiful.

Many thanks Redhead.
It is worn at every family celebration plus hubbys birthday and our weddng anniversary day plus Fathers Day. It is now over 74 years ago since he made it for me.
Its worth nothing, but to me its worth more than the crown jewels because he made it specially for me when he knew of my allergy and if that piece of perspex had a voice what thrilling and wonderful tales it would tell of all the battles it had fought in.

Urmstongran Thu 03-Feb-22 21:19:00

I love your brooch too Maywalk. It’s unique and meaningful to you both. I like that.

Himself bought me a really beautiful diamond eternity band when I had our first girl at the age of 23 years. We had a mortgage to pay and I wasn’t working so he chose it from the ‘Grattan” catalogue.
?

It’s actually very pretty. I do occasionally still wear it.

I have a sapphire half hoop bought several years ago. I only wear my rings when go out my fingers are painful and swollen and its more comfortable without them. I dont wear any jewellery in bed so everything necklace, bracelet comes off then too.

Zoejory Thu 03-Feb-22 22:02:15

That's absolutely beautiful, Maywalk And what a fabulous story. Definitely priceless.

Jeweller told us that it’s given on the birth of a first born son to represent the family surname going on to “eternity”.

I wear my mother's eternity ring, always. Instead of a wedding ring following my divorce many years ago.

PernillaVanilla Fri 04-Feb-22 10:22:04

Yes, DH bought it for me when DS1 was tiny, he came along in a baby carrier when we went to chose. Mine is not a conventional one, it has circles of little diamonds and sapphires on top with a sapphire in the middle. I don't wear it very often, only on special occasions but it makes me feel very happy thinking about how it was DHs idea to say a big thank you to me after all I went through ( not much in the greater scheme of things) having the baby.

ExDancer Fri 04-Feb-22 10:22:55

My fingers are too fat to wear mine now, is it expensive to get it widened?

GrammarGrandma Fri 04-Feb-22 12:04:01

Yes. I have an emerald and diamond eternity ring (very small stones, not expensive) which my husband gave me on our 25th anniversary. It will be 50 this year so I've had it nearly 25 years, incredibly. I started wearing it above my wedding band a few years ago and have stuck with it. I didn't have the kind of engagement ring you can wear with a wedding ring.
