Aldi Or Lidl! Which do you prefer?

we use both. Lidl has a lovely bakery, but other than that, there is little difference. I agree about Aldi chocolate, their huge bar of fruit and nut at less than £1 is excellent.

Aldi for me. I cannot fault their products. Own brand chocolate and their icecream are the best ever. Delicious.
One problem i do have though is that the staff are constantly chatting away on their headpieces to other staff members. I actually raised this with their customer services and they said they would speak to the area manager but nothing has changed. I find it very rude especially when you hear them speak and naturally assume its you they're speaking to only to discover it is their weekend plans they are discussing with the person on the next till!!!!!! Management should really have a word......

I go to Aldi because we have one close by and another very close to where we mind our DGC. A trip to Aldi is somewhere to go with the baby when it's too wet and muddy for the park.

I have been to a Lidl and did like the bakery. It is close to our local university. DH wasn't keen because it was full of students. He is a grumpy old man at times.

I either shop in Lidl’s or Aldi, I like to swop about a bit, whereas I think Aldi’s fruit & veg is much fresher and has best before dates on, whereas Lidl’s don’t and somehow doesn’t last as long.

Aren’t you lucky if you have the choice? There’s a Lidl 15 miles away and I’ve never seen an Aldi. I don’t drive and can only shop in Waitrose, which I love but it’s very expensive.

Shopped at both and aldi wins hands down. There’s so much more choice and it’s more organised than Lidl. I think Lidl is ok and the bakery good but not really a fan of it.

I like Aldi but I wish they had a fresh bakery area like Lidl’s.

I think it all depends on your local store. Both the Aldi and the Lidl nearest to me are OK, but a Lidl in a nicer area (ironically) has a very 'cut price' supermarket vibe that I don't like.

Lidl sent me scurrying to Aldi because their shop local to me
was scruffy and had unhelpfull staff. That was a few years ago.
Now they have relocated to a much nicer , larger store but
too late, I'm happy with Aldi

I think the fruit and veg at Lidl have the edge. Their meat is also better quality and I like the fresh bakery at our local store, which is quite attractive and very clean.

Neither because I like a good range of free-range and organic food so use Sainsburys and Tesco. And they don’t deliver, do they?

They are saying how over the years they have changed and are now reaching a much wider market. It is no longer just those who can only afford the cheapest food. Many people now go to both Aldi/Lidl and Waitrose.
On test tastes Aldi’s own brands are indistinguishable from top brands for most people.

Lidl used to sell big bags of what looked like wotsits, but were peanut flavoured.
Oh they were lovely!!

I use Lidl as I love the bakery, cheeses, live yoghurts, chorizo, meat, fish, butter, teas, herbs spices and other condiments, biscuits, toiletries and cleaning materials. Just about everything really. I do a top up shop once in a blue moon in other stores but in general there are few items I can’t get in Lidl.
If a store does price matching it means they normally rip you off and are only reducing the price because their competition is more reasonably priced.

Our nearest Lidl in the next town is quite small, and tbh quite grubby .. and doesn't have a huge variety of food stuffs..whereas the Aldi in our town is large and clean, and overall much cheaper...

Both are good on price for top up shops but I can never quite manage to get everything I need there on a ‘big’ shop. We have a Lidl within walking distance, Aldi’s a short drive away. I agree Lidl’s bakery is good & their fresh flowers are reasonable but Aldi just has the edge for me. I think their chilled section is better. I prefer to do my main shop at Sainsburys (also close by) better choices and the option to scan & shop or have a delivery.

I live in a small market town.....we have both stores.....I mainly shop at aldi as I prefer their range ......however I will pick up fresh bread from lidl as they have an instore bakery....they also get a good quality range of house plants which are very reasonable.....and their mayo (Batts brand) is delicious ? ( and very cheap)

We don’t have either near by, but both some miles away. I like to pop in if passing either of them, as both are very good for slightly unusual foods and fresh vegetables. Lidl is good for bread and french style chocolate or cheese twists. I often spend too much on the special buys! I guess I enjoy the mix of regular products with the unexpected!

I use Aldi more because it's very close but I prefer Lidl. The bakery is very good and they seem to have better vegetables. Lidl's Italian weeks are usually very good with cheeses and salamis that are usually hard to find. When I went in yesterday they had bottles of Vin Santo for £12.99 and they were bigger than usual!

Greek week is great too.

I've missed going to Lidl since we were locked down and had online deliveries.

Specially Selected in Aldi range is as good as M & S.

Fish all very fresh and tasty there too .
