How great is this? Instead of Au Pairs, apparently businesses are being set up that will employ women over 50, "Granny Nanny", to look after children of working parents. I think it must be a better and more rewarding job than retail or hospitality. Here is the link to the article.

What an excellent idea- I wonder why it has not been thought about before.

The only downside is that many Grans already have that responsibility for their own children.

I don't think you actually have to be a Gran and I should think there are people who because of geography don't see that much of their Grandchildren.

Another advantage is that there are plenty of experienced parents, who take early retirement and this kind of work can be part time. just taking children to and from school, or collecting from school and looking after them until their parents return from work.

While it is a good idea, it is very gender oriented

I am sure women over 50 have other skills that can be of use in the job market

Yes, but, most of those in the newspaper article were nearer retirement age, and beyond it, and were wanting to work but shorter hours and in less demanding jobs, I know childcare can be exhusting, but it is different to the pressure of having to meet deadlines, achieve targets that many find so stressful as thye get older.

And I can see no reason why a man cannot do this type of job.
