Depressing adverts on Gransnet

To the right on this page I have a “Crinkly, Crepey Skin?” advert.

I wonder if I have been specially selected for this? Off to the bathroom to have a look in the mirror……

What adverts are you being targeted with?

(I do have the beginnings of crepey skin, though, under my upper arms - must wear longer sleeves!)

None at all - I use Adblock Plus - wonderful and free!

Oh, and the ‘peace of mind’ you’re guaranteed to get if you pre-pay your funeral.
Because that’s all we poor old things ever worry about, isn’t it?

Millie22 Thu 10-Feb-22 08:32:51

A Nissan Juke. No thanks.

Funeral plans.

Worst for these IMO is ITV3.
Serves me right for recording some of the dramas, but it’s wall to wall funeral plans, mobility aids, walk in showers, equity release*, etc.
Thank goodness for the fast forward button!
But it’s all too obvious which demographic the programmes are aimed at.
*The voice of Lewis (can’t remember the actor’s name) is used in one of these. I dare say it’s irrational, but somehow I was disappointed to hear him do this.

I dislike the ads for earwax that show a lump of extracted wax - makes me feel sick!

Me too!

I used to see one (not on GN though) frequently showing someone squeezing pus out of a spot... what is it with these advertisers...?

There is a “Sporner’s corner” on Mumsnet Dickens. Do NOT ever go there!

... I googled it... you're right, I'm not going there... shock

There is also Dr Pimple Popper which I think is even on TV. I took a look once and they were squeezing a lot more than just pimples. Bloody great boils the size of a golf ball all over some man's body!

... "Dr Pimple Popper"

Gross!!

I’m just getting lots of holiday adverts.

Don't mind the advance funeral plans for reality. I've done one myself. It's the joy with which they are planned and anticipated that has me bemused.

Ear wax, weighted blankets, crepey skin , what to drink before bed to lose weight, funeral plans for my town and retirement homes, shampoo for grey hair. The one that did worry me was the part where it says what Gransnet has been buying and there was the next instalment of a book I had bought for the Kindle on Amazon.
They must know I am overweight sit and read a lot, retired and in need of care and attention before moving into a retirement home. Where I might get rid of my creepy skin their photo looks like something off a mummy. In there I need a funeral plan and to write my will which I forgot. To top it all Gransnet has just been changed to Transnet. So maybe I need that as well.

I'm having hysterics over this... it's so funny grin grin

I have had an advert for a funeral plan. It asks "do you dread an ordinary funeral"

I once had an advert for a firm of solicitors in Istanbul appear on my GN page. Absolutely no connection with anything I'm remotely interested in.
I've now got an ad for a sleep app appearing. I slept for 8 hours 10 minutes last night (thanks for info Fitbit) so sleep not a problem for me.

Not ads on here but my 50th birthday brought lots of mail - adverts for stair lifts, zimmer frames, incontinence aids and retirement homes and bath lifts - bit premature I thought!

This might come as a shock to you but every time you use a computer, every time you use a store card ( Tesco, Sainsburys )
all your purchases are being logged for businesses to target you
If you were to go and buy a high end product don’t be surprised that your served your favourite coffee, biscuits, cake.
They know what your buying.

Esspee Wed 09-Feb-22 16:31:26

Sorry Juliet27 I didn’t click on it (as I am in denial) but next time it comes up I shall take notes.

Esspee Wed 09-Feb-22 16:27:59

Ahhh now I am getting a local advert (I’m on holiday)

Apparently I can get a Subway for $29.

Aye right! I have come all this way and am expected to buy a sandwich for $29 when I can buy doubles for $5 each?

Juliet27 Wed 09-Feb-22 16:22:11

I’ve not seen the crepey skin advert but I seem to have got it in reality ? What does it suggest to improve it?

Daisyanswerdo Wed 09-Feb-22 16:19:14

I don't want to be a wet [weighted] blanket, but I bought one for my son who has got CFS/ME and it helps him enormously. Apparently it has a calming effect.

moggiek Wed 09-Feb-22 16:17:11

I work in IT. My ads are always about the software/hardware that I use - at work!

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 09-Feb-22 16:12:44

I’ve got the bl**dy weighted blanket ad now!?

Chestnut Wed 09-Feb-22 16:07:45

I'm not getting any adverts at all since I started using Ad Blocker. They would be wasted on me anyway, I only buy what I want when I want it. Adverts just wash over me.
