Do you ever just do nothing?

Doing nothing aka reading, watching a film, bird watching in the garden, having a long bath with a glass of wine, etc is my reward for having done all or most of the things I need or want to do. Usually in the evening but can be any time of day, depending on what's going on. I don't feel guilty about it at all.

I used to go to a coffee morning where many people would be rushing off for a busy afternoon and evening.
Not me. That was enough socialising for one day. It seems some people think being constantly busy is a virtue.

Watching the birds is wonderful.

Hang over from Protestant work ethic perhaps, that we should always be busy.
Life is precious but time spent thinking or reading isn’t doing nothing as far as I’m concerned.

When I first started counselling, my counsellor expressed concern that I was doing so much that I never did nothing. I had to learn that it was ok!
Now I enjoy just sitting and watching the garden, listening to music, having a long bath whenever I feel like it.

I love sitting reading too...but often find myself having to get on with something, much like the last 40 years.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not out socialising. Haven’t seen many friends since this pandemic started. We socialise with our family mainly.

There always seems to be something to get out of the chair for! The only real difference we’ve seen since the children left, is we do watch more tv now. In the old days, we were lucky if we sat down before 10pm.

My mum used to say you can always keep yourself busy. I’m wondering if that’s the ethos of many.

I often do nothing. Get some gardening or chores done in the morning then read in the afternoon.

I love doing nothing - enjoy being able to read without feeling guilty. Did just that yesterday afternoon. Today was busier as I was covering year six art.

Was at a group this morning full of busy people. One lady even gave off to us over coffee as she wanted to get back to the activity and we were chatting too long.
I asked what they were doing later and all had about 2 or 3 more things to do, out for lunch, grandchilds concert, visiting friends etc. No one admitted to ever just sitting down to read or watch tv in the afternoon. It wasn't an age thing either as most are in late 60s and 70s. I quite often do nothing, browse internet or read.
