grandMattie

Your talk sounds very interesting, Ash. In our little town, one of the Cinque Ports, there is a straight part of the town walls called “the Butts”! As it was obligatory for yeomen and serfs to target practice every week - surely not on a Sunday!

According to our speaker, at one time every Englishman over the age of seven was expected to attend such sessions twice a week. Mention was made of the Butts, grandMattie, and we learnt that the reason many yew trees are found in churchyards was because their wood makes good bows. ?

It was Gingster's Dd not GrannyGravy's, I knew that, think I should go back to bed.
Apologies.

Good morning from a wet Oxfordshire, Alexa tells me it’s 1 degree with an expected high of 7. We will see.
I’ve slept so well since my procedure it’s bliss! But as I went through the house sorting , cleaning, filing and having a clear out before I went to hospital there isn’t much that needs to be done todayapart from the garden and that will have to wait.
Granmattie such a trying time for you, when MIL was put into the nursing home we found that she had put the incorrect birth date on her POAs, it took ages to sort we managed it just before her Dementia had completely taken her over.
marydoll lovely to see you having such a good time, Anita Manning has a double!
Happy anniversary Scentia
Urms love the daily Matt.
Welcome to the newbies.
mick have a good day.
Hope all have a good day and virtual hugs for those who aren’t feeling so chipper.

Haven't read through yet will catch up later.
Just wanted to welcome the newbies Ali23 & ShazzaKanazza?.
So pleased things are moving forward for you grandMattie.
Enjoy Thursday everyone and may you all find some ?.

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Good morning from North Yorkshire. Clear blue sky again. It’s forecast to be very windy this afternoon, just when I need to be going out to collect my laptop from the IT hospital and go to the opticians.
I had a very pleasant evening at the village hall in the company of friends watching No Time to Die.
It sounds like Sainsburys are going to be busy today with all your deliveries!
Great pics Mary. I’m pleased you had such a lovely time.
Have a good day everyone.

Urmstongran Thu 10-Feb-22 08:46:41

Here’s Matt.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s a lovely sunny start to the day. A nice surprise.

I’m making goulash later for our daughter and son in law. A ‘ready meal’ ha! My girl has a governor’s meeting after work so won’t be home till 7pm. She is so glad it’s half term here next week.

We will do the school pick up, quick tea and take them to their swimming lessons. I solved the problem of showering L’il Miss’ hair - I told her last week ‘shampoo from the ears down only’ it was SO much easier just washing the ends of her hair and not keep pushing her back under the shower head to rinse her scalp! That just takes forever as she has a lot of hair.
?

Lins1066 Thu 10-Feb-22 08:37:59

Good morning all from our corner of the S Welsh coast. It is dry and quite bright.
Didn't sleep well at all so a gentle day ahead, after I've made a beef casserole and cake to take to DS's tomorrow that is!
Good to hear that GG's daughter has a treatment plan in place.
Wishing everyone a good day.

glammagran Thu 10-Feb-22 08:35:47

Good morning to you all.

My daughter who was out in London on a hen night has tested positive for Covid after taking a test every day for 3 days. The rest of her family are negative for now. Her symptoms seem no more than a cold currently. Luckily we haven’t seen her since the weekend. She didn’t have the booster because her first two Pfizer jabs caused bleeding from her kidneys which isn’t good as she suffered a lot with kidney disease in her late teens. No problems with flu jabs though.

BlueSapphire I too live near Cherrill and of course said Cher-hill when we moved to this area a few years ago. I also like Labour-in-Vain hill by the monument and white horse. One of my daughters lives in Quemerford.

I read there was plenty of annoyance as an American spelling of a word was used in yesterday’s Wordle. I heard DH complaining about it as he finished it. That rather helped me later in the day and I got it in two which I’ve only done once before.

Tomorrow we hope to visit Westonbirt Aboretum for a leisurely walk as the weather is set fair for a couple of days. I feel as if I haven’t been anywhere in particular for ages.

Wishing everyone a good day and hoping those with worries and ill health find peace.

Grandmabatty Thu 10-Feb-22 08:26:22

Glad the hen do went so well Marydoll. There is a definite resemblance to Anita!

dragonfly46 Thu 10-Feb-22 08:25:45

Good morning from windy Leicestershire.

pleased you are getting things sorted Mattie it is a laborious upsetting business.
Did I miss something kitty- gf debacle?

Tai Chi this morning - wish I could remember the moves!
Wishing you all a good day.

Grandmabatty Thu 10-Feb-22 08:23:30

Good morning all from a drenched Polmont. Still 3° and feels very cold. It's pouring rain and has poured much of the night.
Progress grandmattie. I'm not surprised that you are exhausted and out of sorts. Ashcombe I love the name of the children's drama group! Tadpoles indeed.
Yesterday I visited mum. She was in good form and we blethered about the past. I was able to show her photos on Facebook of the newsagent she worked in when we were young. Then I went to art class and finished my pastel of snowdrops. I'll get a frame for it at the weekend.
Today I have no plans which is just as well,as the weather is horrible. Dd is taking sil for a procedure he's been waiting for since last January. Hopefully he'll find out why he's frequently unwell. Have a good day all.

Grandmadinosaur Thu 10-Feb-22 08:19:53

Happy anniversary Scentia and Mr.S. ? have a lovely day.

So glad to hear the hen do went well Marydoll the photos illustrate you all having fun!

Grandmadinosaur Thu 10-Feb-22 08:14:48

Good morning from East Yorkshire there is a blue sky but feels chilly.

I’m feeling a bit better today but will take it easy again. Well until GS arrives after school at least! His current fascination is playing with all the cushions and having a throwing fight with them.
? to Shazz just down the road from me.

Hope you can now start to see some light at the end of the tunnel GM . Incidentally the word butt is in part of the name of my road. Before the houses were built it was used for the same purposes hence the name.
Take care everyone.

Marydoll Thu 10-Feb-22 08:14:28

Good morning Mick and all from a showery Glasgow, where it is currently 3°C. It must have been very cold during the night, the heating kicked in at 3am.

A very warm welcome to Ali23 and GM, you must be very relieved that at last, things can get moving.

Yesterday's journey back from the hen do was horrendous. At one point the wipers couldn't cope with the sleet and the road was treacherous. I was thinking of Soop, whose journey, must have been even worse.
DD decided to cut across to the M74, which would take fifteen minutes off our journey. Unfortunately, despite me warning her, ( Mr MD has previous for this) she took the wrong lane at a huge junction and we managed a sightseeing tour of a number of small towns in Lanarkshire.
She insisted on following the satnav, which was taking her, here, there and everywhere, but not back onto the motorway. At one point, she was on the motorway, heading south, instead of north!?
Eventually, I recognised where we were, (she hadn't a clue), having been there on a charity shop trawl with the Ebay queen) and insisted that she listen to me. Five minutes later, we were on the correct motorway and on our way home.

I had a fabulous time at the hen do, everyone got on so well. I felt as safe as I could be, because everyone had done lateral flows, before coming and also daily during our stay. It was so good to socialise again.
The company was excellent and I was spoiled rotten.
Unknown to me, DS2 had contacted DIL's four sisters and asked them to make sure I didn't overdo things. (As if!) They told me that they had been expecting a frail old lady. ?
Every meal was a feast and they wouldn't allow me to lift a finger. I was actually embarrassed that I wasn't pulling my weight.

The entertainment was as good as any West End show.
A drag queen competition was organised, with teams and a group leader.
I hadn't been listening properly and agreed to be a team leader, not realising I would be dressed up as a drag queen and have to lip sync a famous song.
DD told her team not to worry, as I wouldn't have a clue. Oh how wrong she was.
She had forgotten how I used to dress up and entertain my colleagues in school. Of course, I won! ?
DH said I looked like, Anita Manning from Bargain Hunt!

Later on, we had a murder mystery night, where I turned out to be the murder of my husband.
I managed to maintain a slightly dodgy cockney accent throughout, only occasionally lapsing into a mixture of American and Irish. My sides ached from laughing. What a tonic, it was.

Apart from a phone call from my GP today to check up on me, I haven't much planned. Not unexpectedly, my pain levels are very high and I am pretty wiped out after the shenanigans. I was in my pyjamas by teatime and in bed by 8 pm last night, which is unheard of.

Baubles, enjoy your day and wrap up well. It was freezing in the East yesterday.
For those in the sick bay ( Fanny, I hope your pain levels are down) , wishing you a gentle day. ?

Enjoy your day everyone, whatever your plans.

PS. Some of the guest were doing a squat challenge. One guest, stopped three times on her drive from Wales to fulfill it.
You can see DD is really embarrassed by her mothers antics!

Scentia Thu 10-Feb-22 08:11:10

Good Morning all from East Staffordshire where it is chilly ?
Just realised it is our 32nd wedding anniversary today. We don’t do anything different usually but I may cook a meal tonight! DH usually cooks, it will be change for him!!
Off on Nanna duties at lunch I pick them up from nursery then off to gymnastics.
Tonight I am signed up to a ‘webinar’ called menopause, sex lies and libido. It sounds rather interesting ?
Take care everyone and stay safe ❤️

ShazzaKanazza Thu 10-Feb-22 08:02:37

Good morning Mick. Been reading your morning posts for a while. I like the sound of where you live.
It’s going to be a bright day here in Hull. Just looking out at the garden. Spring feels close.
Off to the gym later and to visit and take my mum shopping. Have a lovely day everyone.

Gingster Thu 10-Feb-22 08:01:28

Good morning all and as Sar says it’s damp and chillier. Glad you enjoyed Suffolk.

Yesterday’s appointment for DD was informative and in depth . She has to have Immunotherapy rather than chemo. A year of 6 weekly infusions. She opted for the drip rather than tablets. The side effects can make you feel quite poorly.

The parking at the hospital was a nightmare but the bonus, once we found a space, was that the parking machines weren’t working. As I sat in the car, waiting for an hour and a half, I acted as a parking warden telling people that the machines weren’t working and not to worry. ?. Had some nice little chats to pass the time. ☺️.

Bowls club for me today, after walking little DGD to school, - we did the opposites game yesterday . No art this afternoon as teacher has an appointment. Dh might go fishing.

Hoping you all have a good day. ?

Gwenisgreat1 Thu 10-Feb-22 08:01:10

Good morning all from dry Harrogate
Today is my Sainsburies delivery day.
Then we either have to go and buy a new printer (I’ve got the old one working on DHs PC, but it won’t work very well on my Workbook). Or I have to go to town to purchase new leads for my phone. Tonight is zoom time with my sisters.
So glad there is progress on your son’s estate Grandmattie. It’s no wonder you have been feeling low.
Have the best day possible folks!

BlueSapphire Thu 10-Feb-22 08:00:17

Good morning everyone from a dry grey Northampton, 4°C today. Delivery from Sainsburys between 10-11am, and must get the towels in the washing machine before then.

Ballet class this afternoon, then a coffee and chat with a friend afterwards.

Phoned the doctor yesterday as I have been feeling rather low lately, and she put me back on the medication I only came off in November. I felt so well back then I thought I could do without it, but the GP thought I had come off it too soon. She also booked me in for routine blood test and blood pressure check as it has been well over a year since my last checks.

Hoping for a good day for all.flowers

NannyJan53 Thu 10-Feb-22 07:54:07

Good morning from a dull Black Country.

Yesterdays visit to Audiology proved very fruitful. The tests showed that my hearing had deteriorated slightly over the past 5 years. I was offered new aids which connects to blue tooth on my phone. So the sound when I am talking on the phone goes straight to the aids! It’s absolutely brilliant. The difference is amazing, no more saying “I missed that, can you repeat” smile So grateful I can have these on NHS.

Met friends for lunch later, a good chatty afternoon.

Today is walk with a small local group (started on FB). We meet every other Thursday.

I can almost feel your relief grandMattie flowers

Wishing you all the best day possible

Pittcity Thu 10-Feb-22 07:48:38

Good morning from a grey but dry Colchester. Yesterday was very mild but the rain came in the evening and today will be chilly again.
Thursday brings housework and laundry while DH goes fishing for a few hours.
Love to all ? x

kittylester Thu 10-Feb-22 07:47:48

Good morning all from a cloudy Aldeburgh.

We have had a gentle, restful break and don't really want to go home but we must. I have a Sainsbury's order arriving at 5pm.

Despite the gf debacle, we will be back.
