Try applying some oil, WD40 or cooking oil will do. If you can on your knees try gently pushing the two together and they should fit. You may need to clean round the inner edge of both with old toothbrush. Good luck!

For starters put a bucket under it while you figure out the problem. This happened to me just last week it flooded the kitchen floor. I realised that the pipe to the trap had become loose for reasons unknown the fitting that screws into it had unscrewed itself. After lots of attempts I managed to fit the pipes back together and rescrew the fitting back together it’s no longer leaking.
If you can’t figure out the problem you made need a plumber.

Ours is about to go, we are emptying the washing up bowl down the toilet or drain outside , till DH gets some spares to repair it.

I got a bit more robust with it, pulled it apart and had a look.
Cleaned it up, and found there was a blue squashy rubber washer that had moved out of place a bit.
Straightened that up, heaved the pipe upwards, and managed to tighten it all up and tighten the screw.
Not sure it will last long - it all looks a bit rickety under there.

Congrats and glad it's resolved! Last week my dripping tap was finally sorted out. Plumbing problems are a pain.

What I thought the thread was going to be about what was stashed under the sink, and what you find when you eventually get down and pull everything out!

Nothing too terrible, thankfully.
It's all top show, with awful pipes and gaps at the back.
I was half expecting a waterlogged mouse to float out.

We have an alarm under the sink which bleeps if water starts to collect there. That way you can catch it before everything gets too wet.

It is very annoying and always goes off at the most inconvenient times of course.
