QVC. It’s a bit rubbish now… ?

…isn’t it?
I used to love it.

It used to have so much choice (what the C stands for, or is it convenience ?)

And I’m not convinced that it offers Quality or Value either.

It’s days could be numbered.
What do you think?

Mum always used to watch it when she got housebound. She used to buy jewellery and makeup. Oh and Christmas wrapping packages which were jolly nice.

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Feb-22 06:33:29

The jewellery used to be amazing !
I bought lots from them. Lots of really unusual pieces and gems.
Now it’s all Clogau ‘gold’ ( it’s mainly silver) and Lola Rose.
I recently bought a Lola Rose necklace for nearly £80 (it looked fab in the photos) and it was utter tat.
Re make up. I used to love that ex-model Stacie who had her hair in rollers and would do her makeup from scratch.

I have bought L’Occitane and Elemis at fantastic prices. That’s all I have ever purchased. I have always thought that the fashion and jewellery sold, were not to my taste.
Doubt that it’s days are numbered as they still attract big names and seem to sell out lots of their stock.

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Feb-22 07:47:32

I totally agree about the fashion YorkLady

Grandmadinosaur Wed 16-Feb-22 07:56:13

I think you could be right Fanny it’s certainly not as good as it used to be. There’s too much repetition.
My mum was the same WW2 I smile to myself if I see things on there I know she would buy! One Christmas she even got a card from them. We wondered just how much she had spent with them to receive that! I have a few of her Kirks Folly pieces.
I used to buy L’occitane stuff but now buy from there own stores if nearby or the website where p&p is free if you spend a certain amount.

FannyCornforth Wed 16-Feb-22 08:08:21

Oh Kirk’s Folly! Their things were so quirky. It was actually entertaining to watch in its own right, there were some characters on there.

Marydoll Wed 16-Feb-22 08:33:30

I agree, Fanny.

When I was working, I used to buy jewellery from them and like you enjoyed the more unusual pieces. Do you remember, New York Gems? I always lusted after those flashy pieces and promised myself that, one day I would buy a piece.
Also, I bought Bare Minerals and Elemis, when they were TSVs. They were excellent value.
Marla Wynne, pieces are my style, having bought them new on Ebay. However, they are certainly not worth what QVC charge.
As for Lola Rose, I have a stash of similar stones in my jewellery making kits and I can tell, the mark up is huge!!

You mentioned the model Stacey, whom I loved watching. She had a huge fall out with QVC USA.

Filed on 3/21/07: Plaintiffs Stacey and David Schieffelin and Models Prefer Ltd. sued defendant QVC Inc. alleging that QVC coerced the plaintiffs into executing a distribution agreement under which defendant had the exclusive worldwide right to distribute and promote Models Prefer health and beauty products. Plaintiffs further allege that QVC has appropriated the Models Prefer trademark, converted it for their own use and purpose, have decreased the value of the Models Prefer trademark through their actions, and tortiously interfered with plaintiffs' prospective business relations.

There you go Fanny, I am a fountain of all trivia knowledge.

When she was young my dd was a Hand model for QVC.

smile oh does she have lovely slender hands?

Can you remember French and Saunders doing a sketch on it with the plated jewellery?

MayBeMaw Wed 16-Feb-22 08:59:29

I am still happy with what I consider “branded” goods- Joules, White Stuff, Liz Earle etc and the money back guarantee is useful even if you do have to pay the postage. No more “disasters” lurking in the back of the wardrobe!
But I agree there is much more rubbish and the sight of the two presenters gushing over some unspeakable multi-coloured and over-priced polyester market-stall horrors can be excruciating!

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 16-Feb-22 09:05:29

What have I been missing all these years? Heard of QVC but never seen it.?

paddyann54 Wed 16-Feb-22 09:19:02

I still buy things ,a very nice pair of Reiker ankle boots recently and I get skincare and SBC Arnica products for my daughter .Its certainly not as good for clothes .I used to buy Kim and Co but the patterns on her clothes aren't my taste now .I do buy Monsoon and the odd bit of Nina Leonard and Renee when she's on but thats not often.I find it handy for seding things direct to family ,they all loved the Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser they got before Christmas .

Georgesgran Wed 16-Feb-22 09:23:21

I’m still buying (far too much) from QVC - Elemis, Laura Geller, l’occitane and of course Reiker shoes - all on easy pay when it’s offered. I’m now obsessed by the fat balls for birds - I’ve flocks of birds every day and can barely keep up with demand!!

aggie Wed 16-Feb-22 09:35:42

I used to stay up till midnight to see the Craft TSV ! I still have loads of them still in their cardboard boxes ! When they stopped craft stuff I barely looked in
I did get a fantastic “Bridge “ camera as the TSV years ago , but now don’t even know where it is ! The cameras on my phone is handier !
I got two blazers that I can’t wear now that I have shrunk ( not shrunk sideways IYKWIM ) one is cream , one is charcoal , but I have to roll up about a foot of sleeve ! Not a good look on a round , grey haired , wee woman !
The huge vividly coloured flowers were another fascinating sight , with the presenter practically drooling over them .
I must have a peek to see how they are selling now ?

J52 Wed 16-Feb-22 10:03:14

Their Diamonique Jewell’s was always sold in pale blue boxes similar to Tiffany. It’s now in a pale brown one. I wonder if they got into hot water over them?
In the past I have bought jewellery, when I’ve been searching for something specific, but I haven’t bought anything for years.

J52 Wed 16-Feb-22 10:03:33

MiniMoon Wed 16-Feb-22 10:20:54

I bought some Sketchers boots and a teddy bear coat not so long ago. Love them both.
I do agree about most of the clothing lines though, the quality is not as good as it used to be. I have a coat by Dennis Basso from about 10 years ago. I've not seen anything to compare recently.
Where has Southwestern jewellery gone? I bought myself a beautiful turquoise pendant from them years ago.

DH buys plants and gardening supplies and Richard Jacksons birdied which he reckons is superior to anything sold locally.

MiniMoon Wed 16-Feb-22 10:21:17

Bird seed.

maddyone Wed 16-Feb-22 10:21:32

I buy Elemis when it’s on special offer, it’s very good value. Also sometimes Molten Brown/L’Occitane. I like their SBC too although it can be bought elsewhere on the internet. I was introduced to Laura Geller by QVC but again it can be bought elsewhere now. I have bought occasional pieces of clothing but mostly I feel it’s overpriced and not to my taste. I’ve bought two pairs of Sketchers from them, but also bought them elsewhere.

rafichagran Wed 16-Feb-22 10:53:47

I buy the Sketchers boots, and trainers, I also bought my Sat Navs of then.
The clothes are alful, and the presenters going on about how lovely they are is embarrassing to watch.

My3sons123 Sun 20-Feb-22 00:04:06

I watched and bought too much QVC when I was homebound with my dying mother. It was fun while it lasted but did get some real subpar items of clothing I have to say. I had to stop cold turkey when every item they presented I decided I couldn't live without. Would love to have a peak again...

karmalady Sun 20-Feb-22 07:27:12

I am sure I used to be addicted to qvc, the items used to be good quality so I stayed up to watch tsv at midnight. However all that qvc family and the entertaining chat, it sucked me in and I ended up with multiples of crafting items and skin and hair care. I ended up selling a lot when I started to downsize de-clutter and gave the crafting stuff to oxfam

They were good at their job, sold to people who did not need the stuff by using `you could use it for ` something used to click in my brain `oh yes I could do that`

The last straw were the rubbish plants and non-delivery, looking at trustpilot I was not alone. I came off qvc, deleted my account and that was that. I remember receiving a top that stunk of perfume with no labels, obviously a worn return. I don`t miss it at all and can buy the likes of elemis at cheap enough prices online, elsewhere.

karmalady Sun 20-Feb-22 07:30:20

The peanut fatty bird seed in jars and holders btw. You can get that direct from the seller and much cheaper than qvc

Ailidh Sun 20-Feb-22 08:44:09

I used to watch a lot, and buy a fair bit too. Still enjoy my Cashmasoft twinset, and my couple of bits of Butler & Wilson.

Eventually I got fed up with the p&p costs - not so much that they were high but that if you bought, say, two navy sweaters you would probably get the second p&p half price but if you bought a navy and a red one, it was full price p&p for each.

That, and for a long tìme the models were only tall and slender. When they eventually did start introducing a plus size model - I think she was called Joy, very striking lady - she was tall and plus: I never saw a me-sized model, wee and dumpy, and I gave up rather.
