Thank you Serendipity that looks and sounds very tasty. Could be a good store cupboard standby. Enjoy!

Sorry to hear such sad news about your friend Lins ?

Serendipity22 Thu 17-Feb-22 16:14:04

Grandmadinaosar

A cornish slab is name my mum gave it, its pastry bottom ( laid the full width of a baking tray ) put your filling on top of pastry ( mashed potato, corner beef, fried onion and carrots ) then lay a layer of pastry on top, glaze with egg, bake, slice up, serve with whatever. smile
I have a photo somewhere, i search for it.

?For Lins. Friendship is such a treasure. Glad you both enjoyed such a deep one. ?

A late good morning to you all,

It’s a lot brighter today and slightly less windy than yesterday. It got very wild through the night, with rain lashing the windows. I’m not looking forward to storm Eunice tomorrow which they say will be even stronger. I’ve battened down what I can, so fingers crossed for no damage - and the same wishes for all of you. It’s really quite scary, isn’t it, as we can’t do much when it’s so stormy, other than try to stay indoors if possible (which isn’t possible for the workers, of course), and secure what we can.

Just finished my Pilates class, so feel suitably stretched ?.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Lins - an awful shock for you ?.

You must feel so relieved about the exchanging of contracts, GrandMattie, though I imagine your emotions will be all over the place, so take care ?.

Lovely bag, Brook - GrandMattie, you are very talented.

Be careful everyone and take care.

A beautiful sunny morning here in Oxfordshire, I suspect it is the calm before the (next) storm. Very wild yesterday.
Very busy working week, balancing and juggling a-plenty.
Have a good day and may you find sunshine in unexpected places.

Grandmadinosaur Thu 17-Feb-22 11:20:06

So sorry about your neighbour Lins1066

Serendipity can I ask what is a Cornish slab please? I’ve never heard of it before. What have I missed ?

Blossoming Thu 17-Feb-22 11:14:35

Good morning Mick and everybody. It’s calm and dry in my corner of Lancashire this morning, currently 7°C, but I think it’s the calm before the next storm due tomorrow. Yesterday was a washout weatherwise.

I’m glad it went well yesterday Grandmattie, hope your DH gets some answers from the scan. That bag is beautiful.

Hello Chris3, I don’t think we’ve ‘met’ before (though I have a terrible memory for names!).

The rest of your class will be wanting bags too Brook.

Enjoy your trip out Cornergran.

Hope today goes well GrannySomerset, will be thinking of you tomorrow flowers

Sorry you’ve lost a dear friend Lins.

Apologies if I have missed any newcomers, I hope you enjoy the thread.

I don’t know what we will be doing today, we had some rather disturbing news from a family member yesterday and are not sure what to make of it all.

Wishing you all the best possible day. May all those with worries find some comfort and all who are under the weather find some relief

Grandmabatty Thu 17-Feb-22 10:30:55

For Lins ?

harrigran Thu 17-Feb-22 09:26:40

Good morning from the NE where we have gale force winds again, it has been a very noisy night.
I got all the washing and ironing done yesterday, always pleased when the basket is empty.
SIL is coming to take me shopping.
Take care all.

luluaugust Thu 17-Feb-22 09:24:22

Good morning all from a sunny W Kent. Off to my painting group this morning and then rest of the day free. DD2 house move went well yesterday so another long drama over. Take care everyone.

ShazzaKanazza Thu 17-Feb-22 08:59:52

Thankyou Urmstongran, I’m thinking back to our visit to uncles and I was close to him fussing around him but I don’t think mum was. He has learning difficulties and autism so he definitely won’t let you cuddle him. I’m going to do an LFT. I’m not sure if they’ve told him he has it.

Serendipity22 Thu 17-Feb-22 08:56:15

Good morning from a sunny but windy Yorkshire.
Going out for lunch to a lovely cafe in the next town. Carpark is close by so no doubt the wind will blow me through the cafe door !
Then i want to get some more ready-made pastry ( I'm addicted !) to make a cornish slab and fruit pie as my oldest GD is coming to stay for a week.

I like to her her away from the gadgetry and come with me to visit my lovely friends in the village. They are all in their 80s. I make us all a nice coffee and we sit and talk, its brilliant.

Sooooo, thats my plans for today ohhhh and i think me and Mr S are going for a drink to the pub up the road, typical old fashioned pub, open fires in both rooms, carpeted floor opposed to wood, polished table opposed to huge beer barrels and friends customers who smile and say a cheery hello opposed to those whose eyes bore holes in your head !!

Have a lovely day everyone.

Good morning Auntyflo and x

GrannyGravy13 Thu 17-Feb-22 08:41:32

Lins1066 sorry you have lost a dear friend and neighbour (((hugs)))

GrannyGravy13 Thu 17-Feb-22 08:40:29

Good to hear that your DH is back safe and sound Sar53 , boys and their toys ??

Lins1066 Thu 17-Feb-22 08:40:22

Good morning all from the S Welsh coast, it is a fine, still morning after yesterday's wind and rain.
My lovely friend and neighbour passed away earlier this morning. I will miss her more than I can say.
Some difficult phone calls to make and a Sainsbury's delivery later. A flat roofer is coming shortly to see the leak we noticed yesterday, water must have got under the flashing - that's Mr Lins's verdict.
Hopefully you will have better weather for your visit today corner, the old Severn Bridge was closed yesterday it was that bad.
Wishing everyone a good day, take care of yourselves.

Maria59 Thu 17-Feb-22 08:39:19

Had a fabulous day yesterday when we visited DGS2 so nice to see him face to face after all this time. The journey to Edinburgh was a bit rough with the windy conditions but worth it for the hugs and kisses.
Dance class then pilates today should be easy as I feel like I'm walking on air.
Hugs to all who need them.

Sar53 Thu 17-Feb-22 08:29:48

Good morning from Essex by the sea where the sun is shining.

DH got his boat back ok although the sea was very rough. He is making sure this morning that both boats are tied up securely before storm Eunice hits tomorrow. Hopefully someone will come along and buy the first one, we certainly do not need two.

A lazy day for me, some housework and washing then I will get on with my latest cross stitch which is beginning to look good. I ordered a new one yesterday so I have an incentive to get this one finished.

Kind thoughts to all. Have a lovely Thursday xxx

NannyJan53 Thu 17-Feb-22 08:28:50

Good morning from a bright and sunny Black Country, the calm before the storm? Didn’t wake up until 8am!

Health walk this morning, then make a chilli this afternoon.

Seems little point pinging you so long after contact kitty

Enjoy your day everyone

Urmstongran Thu 17-Feb-22 08:24:25

Hope your mum and uncle are not poorly with Covid ShazzaKanazza (love the name!). We have 2 neighbours, both in their 70’s who Himself has been shopping for and getting their newspapers this past fortnight because they have it. Both are absolutely fine apart from one has a cold and t’other a cough! He had cancer treatment 3 years ago so it was a concern at first for his wife but quite honestly, they are fine. I hope this tale brings you some reassurance.

Urmstongran Thu 17-Feb-22 08:08:42

Here’s Matt.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where I bright and mild. Quiet too after those high winds last night. The calm before tomorrow’s storm it seems. We have the grandchildren all day today while mummy gets a few hours prep for next week done on her laptop. We’ve booked them in for an hour at ‘Clip and Climb’ and will take them out somewhere for lunch to pass some units of time!

Enjoy Thursday (already?) those who can. I’ll settle back to read some posts before I need to get ready now.

Gingster Thu 17-Feb-22 08:01:14

Good morning all from a very sunny Suffolk coast. Last nights gales have died down (a bit). Another garden gate needs attention. Not looking forward to the visit from Eunice!

We walked over our nearby common yesterday morning and saw two muntjacs close by and then a whole herd of deer . Not another human in sight. Lovely to see as they are normally so elusive.

Today we might go to Dunwich Heath and on to the fish and chip place on the beach, - ive got a feeling it doesn’t open until March, so we might be unlucky! We must make the most of today’s weather as I don’t think we’ll be venturing out tomorrow!

Went to see ‘Belfast’ yesterday. Our little cinema was packed . Very unusual! Brilliant film and fantastic acting.

I hope your DH’s scan goes ok GM . Another lovely bag.

Shazza - hope your family stay well.

GG - enjoy Lakeside! ??.

Sar I hope yourDh got back ok with his boat! Tide and weather permitting. ?.

Hoping you all have a good day! ?

Alygran Thu 17-Feb-22 08:00:46

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s dry but windy still. I was supposed to be going to London tomorrow but has a message not to travel from LNER. They suggest I go today but I have several things on so that isn’t possible.
Lovely bag GM and good to hear you have the date for the house. Fingers crossed for the scan. Hope your DH is soon on the road to recovery.
Shazza and Kitty stay negative!
Have a good day everyone.
