Is anyone else a little bit anxious about the storm tomorrow?

I don't know why I am because no one around me seems worried.

I've secured all my bins and garden furniture!

I'm in Amber, have one brother in Yellow and one in Red.

My flat faces the sea. I can't see it because of a (n amazing) garden, a hedge and a Grade Two Listed wall but it's far, far windier in that direction than when I go out the main, street-side door.

My main concern is the two dogs. Before I moved (a month ago yesterday, yay me!) I could chuck them out the back for their Necessaries but now I have communal grounds, I don't do that, we have to go for a walk. The next walk is due at 68mph. Dog-kites, I fancy.....

Went to bed in Amber Zone woke up in Red Zone, S E Essex.
Two very large trees in front garden, numerous trees in back garden…

Where is everyone. Perhaps we can track what is happening.

I’m on the downs between Brighton and Worthing. Still in bed but can’t hear any wind.

Lucca

Cancelled returning DGC to their home ! Train Disruption looks bad. Just hope we can get out for some amusement locally.

do you think it wise to be going out for amusement.
official advice is to stay inside unless absolutely necessary.
batten down the hatches and sit tight.

Our prediction (red zone) has shifted time-wise. Very calm at 6am, picking up now. Huge trees at the back along the riverbank would we hope fall away from us due to wind direction. We can be no more prepared than we are. Our bungalow is in a sheltered spot, can only sit it out and hope we keep power. Very frustrated though as it means we’ll miss a family celebration meal planned for today. It involved s trip along two motorways, just not sensible. Stay safe everyone.

Don`t be complacent if in the amber zone, there is a great deal of uncertainly and much overlapping

Some big gusts here but this is only the prelim. It is quieter downstairs so must sound hellish upstairs

I have refilled my big flask and had a very early light breakfast, hours ago. Cooked breakfast made and eaten and now sipping chamomile tea. I have been busy sorting stuff and at last found my charging pack so can re-charge my phone

Well I went to sleep in the amber zone and have woken in the red zone?.

Read the advise on the BBC site. Now wondering whether to move the car?

Just checked insurance number etc, camping gas stove out, candles etc.

Hopefully won’t need any of it.

The house survived the 1987 hurricane, fingers crossed for this one which I hope won’t be so bad.

Not looking forward to my 40 mile journey to work today, just about to leave. We're in the red zone now.

welbeck Fri 18-Feb-22 04:46:39

2nd red warning issued, for london and the south east.
very rare to have a second red warning.
hope everybody is ok.

Mamardoit Fri 18-Feb-22 04:27:25

They have included more areas in the red zone according to sky. London and the SE and the east of England.

We are still in an amber zone. I do worry for anyone having to go out tonight and tomorrow. I know two of my loved ones will be out in the thick of it trying to keep the power on. That is the biggest worry for all of us. If there are multiple cables down the power will probably go off for some time. The last time that happened our water was of too so I will be filling the kettle and larger saucepans just in case.

No one can stop tiles coming off or fence panels coming down. Most of us can only stay in and hope for the best. I've just put my head out of the door and it's raining and a bit breezy out in the English East Midlands.

karmalady Fri 18-Feb-22 04:04:50

omg it is really starting to build, think I will get dressed soon in warm cosy stuff. Heart is in my mouth now

karmalady Fri 18-Feb-22 04:01:52

I am wakeful too, made a very large cup of tea and back in bed, I am very tense and can hear some gusts starting. I think another 2-3 hours and it will be full on. red warning issued for SE

Shirleyw Fri 18-Feb-22 03:37:24

Yes springychicken, I noticed that with the bbc weather, also in our area bbc weather said 75 mph at its peak and the met office said 68 ,…7mph difference is a lot

Grandma2213 Fri 18-Feb-22 02:46:22

Amber zone here. The house across the back from me is having the roof replaced. The tiles are piled up on the flat roof of the extension and the roofers have put on the roofing felt today. That should be interesting!

Hymnbook Fri 18-Feb-22 01:57:36

My building is 2 years old with a tower block of flats each side. We are in a dip so gets very windy here even on an ordinary weather day. I cancelled my hair appointment for today half an hour on a bus and a walk through the park to get to the bus stop. Thought better of it. I hope everyone has a decent night and everything is ok later on. I can see l'm not the only one who can't sleep. It's raining here in Sherwood Nottingham.

Sara1954 Fri 18-Feb-22 01:40:13

Callistemon
Unfortunately not!
I’m up unable to sleep, I’ve just let the cat out, and it’s not really windy yet,

Pepper59 Fri 18-Feb-22 01:16:50

Hope everyone gets through fine. Thinking of you all. Take care.

Dibbydod Fri 18-Feb-22 01:00:24

I’m in the red zone near the coast , all schools are closed tomorrow also trains /buses not running , bin collections cancelled . In bed now but sounds busy on motorway also weather seems quite . Hope all be well and all be safe .

Teacheranne Fri 18-Feb-22 00:37:29

I’m in bed now but am wondering if I should have taken precautions earlier. How have people secured their bins? I can’t think of how I could have done that but they are tucked away down the side passage. No where to move my car away from the house but my roof is new so fingers crossed. I think my double sofa in the garden is heavy enough not to blow away, not much else outside!

My fences are rather rickety so they might blow down but they need replacing anyway!

I was living in Berkshire during the 1987 hurricane and the thing I remember the most is the noise! It was howling around the house, making the strangest booming sounds and throwing heavy objects against the windows. London Rd between Wokingham and Bracknell was impassable because of fallen trees by the morning and there were roof tiles everywhere. My neighbour had left her washing out, that disappeared for ever!

MiniMoon Fri 18-Feb-22 00:02:26

If the storm keeps to the predicted path, it shouldn't be too bad in my part of South Northumberland. DH goes out to his early morning job at 4am and it is the expected snow that will be problematic.
Our summer house took a battering during storm Arwen so DH has secured it as well as he is able. We are keeping our fingers crossed that it won't be too bad.

SpringyChicken Thu 17-Feb-22 23:54:24

I am near the red zone and am slightly concerned that when checking on the BBC weather app, the wind speed forecast for us is higher than places in the red zone. I’m hoping it’s a mistake.
We moved the cars away from the house in case of falling tiles. They will probably be clobbered by dustbins and fence panels instead.

VioletSky Thu 17-Feb-22 23:49:53

I don't understand either, "don't leave the house unless you have too" isn't in some bosses vocabulary

Thinking of all of you in red. I'm in amber

GrandmaSeaDragon Thu 17-Feb-22 23:48:00

Our DGC in Hertfordshire and Rutland are all on half term. We have postponed meeting up with DD2 and will do a zoom quiz instead. We have large TPO’d trees in our garden, known to be infected with honey fungus, but not allowed to remove unless actually dead. In the 1987 we were in Surrey and several very large Ash trees fell onto our garden from neighbours, so I am always worried this will happen again, especially as the trees are near the house. Watching tonight’s news, I was surprised how much action is being taken to avoid damage. Let’s hope it turns out not be to as severe as predicted. Hope everyone stays safe and secure.
