Hello

I thought that we should have a thread about today’s weather.

Please stay safe everyone; it’s very worrying.

What’s it currently like where you are? x

Massive tree blown down in Stonehouse, Glos. Saw it on the News.

Daughter in Devon says it's easing up there now. Still very gusty here in South Gloucestershire, and my neighbour's fence is down. I am anxiously watching the trees around my house.

Very very windy here top of hill glos.

Witzend Fri 18-Feb-22 12:39:14

It really is wild out there now - the noise is tremendous.
Part of our garden fence is down. Officially it’s that neighbour’s fence, but the house has been rented out for over 30 years and trying to get the landlady to shell out for anything is the proverbial blood out of a stone.

Last time that fence was down it took us forever to get her to pay even half so I doubt we’ll bother asking again.

It is blowing a hoolie here. I was a bit worried when I watched the news last night though regarding the river Severn. Shouldn't those people have been told to evacuate?

I did wonder if some places along the Severn and the Wye would evacuate as a spring tide was due as well today but I don't think they have.

I'm not going out to check.
Why do TV companies send reporters and camera operators to the sea fronts to show us how bad it is and warn us not to go out?

I forget where they were but the people i this one town had been told the Severn would come up the top of the ground floor? I would have left if I could sad it is a bloody frightening river at the best of times

I think it was Frampton-on-Severn, further up the Severn towards Gloucester which was on the news but other areas are susceptible to flooding too.

Perhaps it's because the river narrows around there and a rush of water from a strong tide comes up river and has nowhere to go.
Of course, the river used to be dredged years ago right up to Gloucester Docks but that doesn't happen any more.

FannyCornforth Fri 18-Feb-22 12:06:50

Oh Helen, that sounds awful

GrandmaHelen Fri 18-Feb-22 12:03:52

We're in Gloucestershire near the severn. No power, no water since 4pm yesterday, fences down so, yes, feeling anxious ?

merlotgran Fri 18-Feb-22 12:02:21

I'm in the red zone - South Hants and the gusting is scaring Peggy so I'm in the bedroom which is in the middle of the bungalow so much quieter than the sitting room at the front. Normally she would dive under the duvet and settle down but she can't relax. Taping up the letterbox so she doesn't keep thinking there's somebody knocking on the door hasn't helped.

It goes really quiet then......Whoomph!!

I hope my friends are OK in the south west corner of the Isle of Wight.

Nonogran Fri 18-Feb-22 12:01:13

1200hrs: Total madness here, south west of Bristol. I’m about to lose my fence! What a nightmare.

Oldbat1 Fri 18-Feb-22 12:00:49

Well within a few minutes we now have heavy rain and increasing wind. Dog refusing to go out. Northumberland.

I was a bit surprised to find we are now in a red zone this morning, it is really blowing here now

Wheniwasyourage Fri 18-Feb-22 11:52:28

It's been snowing here in NE Scotland since about 7.30 and it's lying. Not much wind though.

Good luck to all those in the red and amber areas. Fingers crossed for you all.

annodomini Fri 18-Feb-22 11:50:57

In NE Cheshire, we're in the amber zone; the trees are swaying but not yet thrashing. It's raining but that's not news!

Kate1949 Fri 18-Feb-22 11:46:42
