Think its about time to get out and about this Weekend

My DD and her family have been here for a few days and yesterday we did the full Malham circuit. My first long walk of the year. The weather was glorious and the landscape is magnificent. A lovely change from clearing out 42 years worth of stuff from the house to downsize.

Hope to tidy one side of ours, no point touching the rest until the fence Eunice removed has been replaced. I fear for the plants along there, suspect many will be damaged. Can’t be helped.

I had to venture out in the rain this week to cut back some plants so that two of my fence panels can be replaced after the storms. My garden is still to wet though to do any serious work, parts of the lawn are underwater every time we have heavy rain so it’s boggy for much of the year! I am about to order a few bushes to fill up some gaps so am enjoying looking through catalogues and planning what to buy.

Oh Bridie, I hope it is a genuine Forfar bridie. You have put me in the notion for one!

Maya, thank you. At least the washing will dry in the strong wind and there will be no need to use the tumble drier! There is always a silver lining, despite the dark grey clouds. ???

Am off to buy a real bridie to have for lunch and will stay in and sew more of my crazy patchwork this afternoon. It is very addictive.

Sorry Marydoll, it's lovely here in East Anglia too. I would love to live in Scotland though.
My husband has been doing lots of seedlings in our spare room and they are coming on nicely.
He wants to do a purple and white front garden this year.
He did the back last year and laid a patio, he is useless at DIY but he surprised himself and me.

I am not really a gadabout but I am feeling desperate to get out and about soon. We have had about a month of indoor living, first we all had Covid, then the gales so didn’t really want to stray too far and all this week we have been looking after poorly DGD. Hoping some fine weather and sunshine will chase away the blues.

We don’t have a garden. Never mind - we’re off to Malaga tomorrow for a few weeks. That’ll do nicely.

I had occasion to drive through a large inner city park yesterday. What an unexpected joy. There were masses of people out there. Very colourful and active, young and old, in groups and soliitary. It was a vision to behold and thoroughly uplifting for me. Yes, it was sunny but decidedly cool. It has been a pretty awful week weather-wise (and otherwise) so I guess this was a spontaneous people antidote and obviously many were of one mind. Irrespective of reason, I still have the mental image with me. Terrific!

Ooh it’s lovely hearing about you all doing your garden I’m inspired!

Yesterday was such a pleasant calm sunny day which I took advantage of to hang out bed linen, the first time this year and the smell when I later brought it indoors was delightful.

I also spent some time tidying up at least one area of the garden and checked one large pot full of daffodil bulbs. Our constant visiting squirrel was digging up the same bulb which I replanted after each visit, thankfully, it has taken well and growing.

Unfortunately, there is no chance of gardening today as the weather is pants - damp and strong winds.

At one time I could name every plant in the garden, now I am struggling and frustrated trying to remember names I have known for years. So annoying. Grr!

My lawn’s in a dreadful state, so I may take your lead and cut the grass Monica, as it would make such a difference. I need to dig out some montbretia as well, it has been left for a few years and I now have a solid clump of bulbs about three feet across which is going to be really hard work to get rid of. Serves me right, but it’s more bearable when the sun’s shining.

Gardening for me too, if my back is up to it. I did some weeding yesterday and there's plenty more to do, but whatever angle I do it at, my back soon hurts.

Still, if that proves too painful today, I will be able to sit in my little summerhouse which we put up last summer and which has so far stood up to the recent gales. Once the sun is on it, it warms up nicely.
It's my little hideaway, where I can do whatever I want in peace and quiet (as long as the neighbour doesn't decide to mow his lawn), away from the constant drone of the TV in the house- knit, sew, read, contemplate my navel, whatever ... . ?

Please stop rubbing it in. It is 7°C here!!!

Temperatures here look like being in double figures and sunny all day.
My DH works away in the week, so lots of long dog walks at the weekend, then clearing up the garden which has taken a battering from the wind and puppy paws.

Yes, gardening for me too. I still haven't finished the Autumn clear-up. I got off to agood start then, variously, constant rain, cold and then gales (not to mention Christmas) meant i haven't done any for monthe.

First job to clear all the twigs, leaves etc from all the storms fro the front garden - and cut the grass for the first time this year.

No sunshine forecast here in Glasgow today, I wish there was. The wind is howling.?

Me too Whitewavemark2, I haven’t been well enough to do much out there for the past 6 months so it’s looking neglected and very tatty.
I started yesterday and will do a bit each day. DH would help but he doesn’t know a dandelion from a day lily (conveniently for him ?).

I am certainly spending time getting the garden ready for the coming season. I have an autumn garden to plant, and then need to split plants and replant in the rose garden. I also need to weed and re-zen the Japanese front garden as the foxes have been playing in the gravel, and I have neglected it this winter.

Oh the joy!!?
