The Duke of Sussex said he and his wife had been "brought together for a reason" and shared a "commitment to a life of service" as they accepted a top accolade at the 53rd annual NAACP Image awards.

The Duke and Duchess appeared in person at the ceremony to accept the President's Award, which recognises special achievement and distinguished public service

The Queen is known to donate privately to charities. I don’t believe it’s necessary to either make a big public show of charitable donations or divest yourself of every last penny in order to be a Christian.
And I think everyone can find a quotation from the Bible in order to support whatever their point of view might be, especially with the aid of Google. It’s surprising how much some people who claim not to be Christians can quote from the Bible.

I think the Queen believes, I’m absolutely sure she does. I just don’t know how she squares her belief with her wealth.
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God Matthew 19:24

I think there were several occasions where Jesus pointed out that excessive wealth breeds greed, but he did also explain that the most important thing , whether you are rich or poor, is to give your heart. In general the Queen appears to do this.

If we’re quoting the Bible let’s go with
If you judge or condemn someone else, you stand to be judged or condemned according to the same standard; do not judge unsympathetically or hypocritically. (Matthew 7:1).
Of course this doesn’t apply to any of those on GN who always share all their wealth with the less well off.

Anniebach Wed 02-Mar-22 18:01:07

Mollygo some who have judged the Queen know how much
money she has, I didn’t know her bank accounts had been made public,

They also know she donates little to charities, this has surprised
.me, how do they know ?

maddyone Wed 02-Mar-22 18:29:29

Well thank you all for judging me.

nadateturbe Wed 02-Mar-22 18:42:07

I don't think it's right for anyone to have millions that will never be used. Not just the Queen.

nadateturbe Wed 02-Mar-22 18:42:41

It's wrong.

Anniebach Wed 02-Mar-22 18:43:06

maddyone I did not judge you, I spoke of all who have questioned wealth and faith

Mollygo Wed 02-Mar-22 18:43:19

Not judging anyone, not even those who don’t share all their money whist criticising others who don’t share their wealth.
Just pointing out that if you want to quote the Bible to make a point, you can always find another quote to prove a different point.

Where is the line for those who it seems have no hope of God’s
love ?

Now I could agree with that. HM is not the richest woman in the UK, or anywhere else. I think I’d find that everyone who has millions, would say they needed it, either to support their extravagant lifestyle (e.g. The Worlds Most Expensive Hotels where they’d pay thousands for a one night stay) or to put away for their old age.

This is so dismissive. One of the aspects of religiousness that make me glad I'm atheist and not so superior about what motivates people.

Yep! Although it might be deleted.grin

Anniebach Wed 02-Mar-22 18:58:58

Has a quote been deleted ? ?

Nobody knows who I share my wealth with (such as it is) and nobody knows who any of you share your wealth with (such as it is.) If we’re thinking of the Bible, I will remember the parable of the widow’s mite, an important lesson about sharing whatever we have.
I’m not particularly religious although I was brought up in the church, and I did, and passed my O level in Religious Studies, which in those days was based on the study of the Gospels.

nadateturbe Wed 02-Mar-22 19:19:14

Mollygo I have some savings most of which I keep for emergency health care and helping my daughter.
And I trust I have enough because its not a huge amount.
But hoarding millions. Surely some people know that they will never use all they have, nor will their children. And yet they know people are homeless, starving, etc.
But that's the last time I'm saying it. Some folk will never get it.

What's that famous reading, often heard at weddings, that says even though you give all your possessions to the poor, if you don't have love you are nothing?
Some things are more important than wealth.

Anniebach Wed 02-Mar-22 20:48:29

So true Josieann St.Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, I think

I hope you don't mind but I have sent you a private message.

I do know that verse, brings back a discussion at bible studies,

Storing up riches, not easy to define riches, someone in an
overcrowded house could see a person with spare bedrooms
rich, people who rent a council house on a rough estate could see people who own their home and own a holiday home rich.
The homeless could see everyone with a home rich.

People who can afford private health care. People who can holiday . Private education. A labourer on a building site for a new house for an accountant.

Where do riches start ?

‘Megan has worked extremely hard to get where she is today’

Lexisgrsnny sensible post but she got where she is today by
marriage.

According to Wikipedia prior to marriage she was being paid $50000 per episode for Suits which ran for 7 seasons and had a string of roles in other TV shows and films. Her philanthropy work started much before marriage also including ambassador roles for projects in Africa and India such as clean water, gender equality and period wear access so girls could continue to attend school. Sounds pretty successful to me?

I don’t think it is fair to say she is where she is solely due to marriage. In comparison, Kate worked for her parents company with no evidence that I can find on philanthropy work before marriage. Not wanting to compare them, but why is it that Megan is said to got where she is by marriage but Kate is not?
