The Duke of Sussex said he and his wife had been "brought together for a reason" and shared a "commitment to a life of service" as they accepted a top accolade at the 53rd annual NAACP Image awards.

The Duke and Duchess appeared in person at the ceremony to accept the President's Award, which recognises special achievement and distinguished public service

Mind you, the one with less hair has better job prospects.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 03-Mar-22 09:33:36

Neither.

He’s definitely punching above his weight.
I’ve always wondered if he knows it.

Depends on your ambitions volver. For someone who wants to be in the limelight, good move. I don’t think many people would say she married Harry for his looks.

Or his stage presence.
She has it in spades, he doesn't!

I think being married to Diana's son is maybe the trump card, certainly in America.
(Oops nothing to do with him of course!)

Megan got her first small part on tv with a studio where her father was lighting director. She was with a film producer from
2004, married him in 2011, divorced 2013, then the celebrity chef until she met Harry.

I think that’s absolutely right Josieann. Being a duchess trumps being an actress doesn’t it?

Not for everyone. Not by a long chalk.

Maybe people just mean she got where she currently is on the celebrity world stage through her marriage because without that, her acting career wasn't taking her to such great heights? She might have been successful- ish, but now she is well and truly famous.

Well it’s fair to say Megan had been around the the block a few times.

Many have had previous relationships when they marry, including some failed previous marriages and shock horror even some
Previous children! One of mine is a divorcee, remarried and has children from both relationships… he is fairly successful in his own right! I don’t see the relevance of her previous relationships and personal history?

No comparison between Kate and Megan’s life before their
marriages into the royal family.

Kate and William were an item from university, she did work in London but the press hounded her so she went to her parents.

Megan, was in her 30’s when she met Harry, had been married,
divorced, lived with a celebrity chef , was a tv celebrity.

But what difference does that have to do with her success? The point is she was successful in her own right before she married so people
Posting that she got where she is through marriage are just wrong.

Lucca Thu 03-Mar-22 08:46:12

So what ??

You are Conveniently ignoring all the other information about her career and continuing to childishly miss out the “h”.

I wasn’t comparing, just saying Meghan had clearly not just “married”.

*put not out

volver Thu 03-Mar-22 08:27:41

Yes, agreed, so in others words, Meghan is a self-made woman and Katherine is posh woman who married well. ?

Josieann Thu 03-Mar-22 08:27:35

Im not here to compare K and M either, chalk and cheese, but just to say Catherine did go to Chile during her gap year to work with a sustainable development charity, Raleigh project or something. Before she even met William.
Then at Jigsaw she out together a photography exhibition to raise funds for UNICEF. Plus other fund raising events for children's hospices, all before she and William were engaged.

‘Megan has worked extremely hard to get where she is today’

Lexisgrsnny sensible post but she got where she is today by
marriage.

According to Wikipedia prior to marriage she was being paid $50000 per episode for Suits which ran for 7 seasons and had a string of roles in other TV shows and films. Her philanthropy work started much before marriage also including ambassador roles for projects in Africa and India such as clean water, gender equality and period wear access so girls could continue to attend school. Sounds pretty successful to me?

I don’t think it is fair to say she is where she is solely due to marriage. In comparison, Kate worked for her parents company with no evidence that I can find on philanthropy work before marriage. Not wanting to compare them, but why is it that Megan is said to got where she is by marriage but Kate is not?

Good post
I remember still on this site someone describing Meghan as a “two bit actress” and being shocked at that attitude.

I think we all have different views. It's difficult to discuss online. I don't have energy for long posts.

nadateturbe Wed 02-Mar-22 22:58:16

I know Mollygo. Thank you. I was talking about other people not getting it.

Matthew 6 v19.

Without an explanation attached to your post nadeturbe it is difficult to know what you mean.
For me personally this isn't a competition about quoting different scriptures. I don't think we mean that Christians should never have money or never own property. Yes the Queen is very wealthy, but I don't think materialism surpasses her desire to serve her country (and God).
As maddyone says, no one knows who we share our wealth with, but if only one person is better off for our sharing not just our money but other riches, then that is enough.

Mollygo Wed 02-Mar-22 22:41:38

Let nothing disturb you, if you read my post at 18:49, you would have noticed I was agreeing with your post at 18:42. I even quoted it at the start of my post.
