Last night I had left my handbag in a different part of town (I don't live in a town) and I had to drive to town and go through a series of corridors and doors that led to nowhere. My passenger was a girl I knew at school who I haven't seen for almost 30 years!

My handbag was located in a building I could see but couldn't get to. When I finally got near to it I found I had no shoes on and had to go outside in the rain in my socks. I could see a room full of shoes but knew I couldn't put them on.

I never did get to my handbag

what on earth was it all about? All the doors and corridors were painted red too!

I just wondered if anyone else was having weird dreams? I feel like mine are triggered by general anxiety surrounding firstly the pandemic and now instability surrounding world peace <dramatic>

Used to have really vivid and sometimes disturbing dreams when on holiday but never at any other time. Nowadays often have dreams on a theme ie recently have been dreaming regularly about David Bowie - we were living together and he was meeting my parents for the first time and my dad really liked him. Not all of them are this pleasant!

I have a recurring one about having some sort of emergency, I go to dial 999 on one of the old fashioned dial phones, I dial the first two 9's, but on the 3rd one, my finger keeps slipping out of the hole, and I have to start over, essentially never managing to call for help. Can anyone explain that one?

I occasionally remember weird ones these days but most of my most vivid and meaningful ones date back to my twenties when I was in therapy.

(Did you know there’s a narration of a dream and its interpretation in a Rossini opera (Cinderella)? Well before Freud and Jung lol!)

I often dream about being away from home and needing the toilet. All the toilets I find are broken and dirty. Eventually I wake up and realise I'm desperate for the loo!

I might have mentioned this in a different thread. I gave birth to Gordon Ramsay 's baby in a forest clearing. I was lying on a bedknobs & broomstick type brass bed and a TV crew surrounded me. After I had the baby, who we called Geoff, I delivered the placenta which was whisked away and put in a frying pan by Gordon Ramsay. The TV cameras turned to him, and he cooked it on a BBQ explaining what he was doing step by step.
What a weird dream!!

I have the loo one all the time. Another one is can't remember where I've parked my car. Walk miles looking for it.

Yes! In my dream last night I was near a car with a hood ornament, only the ornament was so tall that I wondered how on earth it didn't catch on things when driving. The next minute it had turned into a flying white horse with the same tall ornament on the end of it's nose which then got caught on a telegraph cable causing it to fall down to the earth.

Witzend Not the dinner one but the first three. (And not German but geography!)

I often dream that I have lost my handbag or worse still someone who is dear to me. I also dream that I am smoking or driving and I gave up both years ago!

I too have been having the strangest dreams recently. I put this down to the fact that I’m coming off some medication I’ve been on for a while. I can’t remember some of the dreams but one I do recall is being on a ship. Don’t think I was travelling to anywhere exotic either; as I recall, the ship wasn’t a very pleasant place to be.

Rumpunch Wed 02-Mar-22 13:39:13

My recurring dream involves being stuck on a cruise ship. I need to get to dinner but I cannot find the stairs to go down. I'm told to go up a deck and then come down the stairs at the other end of the ship. But I cannot find those and end up going up and down all sort of staircases, never once do I try to take the lift instead. !
I've also noticed that when I cannot make my mind up on something I dream about stepping on to a boat, ship, ferry which moves off whilst I still have one foot on land. ???

Often have frightening dreams where I wake up (alone) in an absolute panic and still 'in the dream'. Takes a little while to realise I am awake and safe.
Best dreams are standing on a bridge watching the river flow from blue one side, only to appear bright orange on the other side after flowing under the bridge!

Last August I went on a Shearings coach holiday to Harrogate, Knaresborough and York. Just before the holiday I dreamed that I missed the coach and had to run to take a shortcut through the woods to catch it at a bend in the road. I am actually disabled and cannot run. Funnily enough, after a nice holiday the coach driver failed to count the passengers properly and set off 5 minutes early, leaving me behind! Fortunately I managed to contact a local Shearings rep and she drove me in a car to the next coach stop.
As for the loo dreams and the flying dreams I have lost count of the number of those I have had.

At least you weren’t naked!

I dreamt last night that my teeth were falling out, especially the front ones. The dream involved me trying to glue them back in.I was glad to wake up. I have had a lot of bother with two side teeth lately.

I, too, have the strongest most vivid dreams. Usually caused by anxiety or worry with parts of it whatvhas happened during the day or something I saw on television. They are always in color and so very real.

Son No:2 has just moved to Jersey with work, and has a lovely big house over there. I dreamt that he had a full size crocodile living on the ground floor .... what the bleep was that all about ??

In my dreams I am always on the run and in a hurry. I think it has something to do with my medication for 'essential tremor'.

From the age of six I had a recurring dream. I dreamt that I was at our local beach and a big ship was washed ashore. It was on it’s side, then it rolled over. There were lots of people on the ship and in the sea. I remember feeling very agitated.

I had this dream several times a week till I was about 13.
Fast forward to 20 years later, 6th March 1987 the Herald of Free Enterprise hit the headlines.

Journey dreams. I'm often travelling somewhere. It's never clear where to but it's important that I get there. Lots of people, rooms, stairs, queues and buses and trains that never arrive. Often a public toilet then comes into view but it is locked or blocked and I can't use it. This is usually the point at which I wake up, roll out of bed and scurry to the familiarity of my own toilet.

Jane judge I had a horrible car one recently, my OH decided to take a short cut against my wishes……we turned straight into a huge bog …. that was it, we were sinking quickly, we sort of held hands and accepted our deathly fate !!!!! Thankfully I woke up before it happened.

FannyCornforth Wed 02-Mar-22 12:20:17

I have that dream about school.

And the levitation. I can move really quickly across large areas, countryside and sometimes the sea.

It’s so difficult describing dreams,
as everything is so mixed up.
Real things mixed with unknowns.
It’s like we don’t really have the language for it.

Moggycuddler Wed 02-Mar-22 12:03:17

I dream a lot about school. Sometimes I'm a schoolgirl again and sometimes I seem to be the age I am now, but going back to school among all the kids. I'm usually trying to find a classroom for a particular lesson but I'm lost, wandering round the school corridors. I also dream quite often about going on long bus rides to various places.

In Malta it is very common to try and explain dreams, and according to lore, red is anger, and a closed door means you are needing to open it to let the anger and frustration out. When you lose a handbag, it means you are afarind that you are losing your identity. If someone finds it, you are thinking that you will be embarrassed by something that someone can find out about you. You are barefoot because you are anxious about something, or that you are afraid of trying to overcome the obstacles currently in your life. Or - you might have eaten too much cheese before you went to bed.

It’s quite reassuring for me to read about so many similar dreams to mine. Often lost in a city that I recognise instantly but doesn’t exist in reality. Lots of getting lost in big, old houses.
