I am having the maddest dreams. Anyone else?

Last night I had left my handbag in a different part of town (I don't live in a town) and I had to drive to town and go through a series of corridors and doors that led to nowhere. My passenger was a girl I knew at school who I haven't seen for almost 30 years!

My handbag was located in a building I could see but couldn't get to. When I finally got near to it I found I had no shoes on and had to go outside in the rain in my socks. I could see a room full of shoes but knew I couldn't put them on.

I never did get to my handbag

what on earth was it all about? All the doors and corridors were painted red too!

I just wondered if anyone else was having weird dreams? I feel like mine are triggered by general anxiety surrounding firstly the pandemic and now instability surrounding world peace <dramatic>

I could perhaps suggest that the handbag resembles all you hold dear and the struggle to protect it in difficult times.

Either that or it means you should buy a new red handbag today.

Me too with the bizarre dreams. Last night I was converting an open topped squash court into a house for myself whilst rain poured down Either my dream means I am trying to make a safe space in a world gone mad - or I need to stop eating hot chillis in the evening.

Sleep well.

I always have the weirdest dreams. My hubby says ‘goodness knows what goes on in your head’ lol. I’d love to know the meanings sometimes I Google it.
Years ago though I kept having a recurring dream about losing my handbag and when I found it there was nothing left but DHs money hadn’t been taken. It went on for about a year. Always the same where I had nothing left. At that time it was all to do with my empty nest syndrome.

I get the lost in a city dream, is normally in a building in Bath. I go into a department store and keep going up more and more stairs to the top but never find the way back down. Eventually get woken by my husband because I’m thrashing about and moaning!
My other recurrent dream is I’m desperate for the loo, which when I find one is unusable being in some way on public view or in the middle of a field full of people. Fortunately I always wake up in time! Think that one is my body telling me something!!

That recurrent dream being desperate for the loo.I have that one a lot,

I regularly dream that I've lost my handbag. It's dark and I can't get home because my money, phone etc are in my handbag. I see a phone box and I go in, thinking I'll ring home and reverse the charges but the phone is out of order. I'm told it's a sign of insecurity.

I've been having very odd, vivid dreams lately.

I think it's anxiety.

It was often about not being able to find a loo in a rambling house and, when I do, it's outside, doesn't have a door and is next to a cliff path with people walking past. Haven't had that one for while, though.

Callistemon21 Tue 01-Mar-22 10:30:55

Ps the loo dream is near the beach in Bude and I haven't been there for years!

My dreams got wilder and more disturbing when I was put on morphine after breaking my back. Have you changed your medication recently?

teabagwoman Tue 01-Mar-22 10:43:23

I’m another one who has weird dreams, usually trying to find a child or back at a residential home I used to work in and not being able to look after everyone properly. Have given up trying to understand them or relating them to anxiety etc and just regard them as ‘brain housekeeping’.

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Mar-22 10:45:19

Fancy seeing you here Jane?

I’ve only scanned your op so far but noticed you mentioned ‘handbag’.

I have loads of handbag dreams. See also phones, and not being able to use them.
And having to look after lots of little animals (tiny frogs have been popular lately, but chickens made an appearance last night)

But back to handbags.
I recently wrote on here about a dream I had.
I was in my old school’s sports hall. Dominic Cummings and Sarah Vine were there.
I suspected that Cummings had poisoned me.
I couldn’t phone 999 because my phone was in my handbag and it was full of school dinners and gravy.

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Mar-22 10:46:43

I have them every single night.
The night before last I woke up in a state of panic and wet through with sweat

OMG JaneJudge,i have been having dreams about losing my handbag for months.
At least 4 times a week.
I`m not in my house in the dreams,i`m here there and everywhere.
I too put it down to lockdown etc,it`s become a joke in my house now.

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Mar-22 10:51:09

Buildings (especially houses) represent our self.
Over the years of experience I’ve become quite an expert at dream analysis.
I used to have frequent dreams of finding a room in a house that I previously didn’t know was there.
It was usually full of baby animals (more often or not guinea pigs) that I should have been looking after.
I think that this means that their is a part of yourself that you have been neglecting.

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Mar-22 10:52:10

Absolutely filthy toilets with broken doors and no loo roll are popular too

Coastpath Tue 01-Mar-22 10:53:48

Dominic Cummings and Sarah Vine were there.

Argggh!!! What a nightmare!!

I constantly dream that I am typing a book upside down and can't read any of it. There are masses of muddled words and I can't make any sense of them.
And tidal waves, I've been dreaming about them all my life, long before they were called tsunamis.
Another regular is that I am alone in a park full of people but they can't see me or hear me.

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Mar-22 11:00:34

henetha you sound as tormented as me! smile

FannyCornforth Tue 01-Mar-22 11:01:34

Aeroplanes crashing nearby
Aquariums full of dying and dead fish

I had a very weird dream that I was to run in the Olympics…..but found I had left my spikes behind. This from a woman who was not athletic in her youth and now I’m positively geriatric!

gulligranny Tue 01-Mar-22 11:07:09

Oooh, Gongoozler, are you actually me?! I have exactly those dreams - lost in a department store (although unlike you I'm usually trying to find my way out of the basement)/desperate for a loo which when I find it can't be used.

I also have dreams about my house which isn't really my house, and I'm often in a town which in my dream I know well but which doesn't exist in real life.

Another one of mine is finding a London Underground line that I didn't know about and which is very useful.

Last night I dreamt that I was having a huge row with one of my closest friends because she wasn't looking after herself properly and she'd let her hair get "crisp". Crisp hair? I probably don't want to know what that symbolises ...

Maggiemaybe Tue 01-Mar-22 11:11:13

I very rarely remember dreams. But I do have a regular one that wakes me up with a jolt. I’ve been hiding mummified bodies around the house, in the coal cellar, in wardrobes, behind the sofa that a uniformed police officer is just sitting on. That’s when I wake up in a sweat. grin

I mentioned it once at DD1’s, and DSIL piped up that oh yes, he had that one too. DD1 looked horrified, and not a little scared…

henetha Tue 01-Mar-22 11:14:19

I think I am, FannyCornforth. As tormented as you, I mean.
I've been plagued by bad dreams all my life. I'm not sure what it says about us! smile

Witzend Tue 01-Mar-22 11:21:15

I have weird ones all the time, but also several recurrent ones.
One is about a large house I’ve never seen or been to, but I know it intimately.

Second, a real nightmare - I have a German lit exam imminent and not only have I not read any of the books, I don’t even know what they are.

Third, it’s about 4 pm on Christmas Eve and I’ve forgotten to buy any presents, a tree, or anything.

Fourth (though I’ve not had this for ages) people have come for dinner, but it’s 11 pm and the potatoes still aren’t cooked! ?

Very frequent, vivid dreams here also..never used to have them....12 days ago during a dream...where I was knelt up on a steep, snowy slope trying to pull my granddaughter back from falling....I suddenly woke up...and was actually in the kneeling position on the edge of my bed...and I fell of backwards, hit the floor with back and shoulder but also really cracked the top of my head on bedside cabinet....its still very very sore/tender...now feeling anxious about dreams...?
