Hi Grans out there.....
I'm on to ask could anyone recommend some good bed pillows...For some unknown reason I cannot get really comfy in my bed at night...Waking up with sore neck in the morning

CanadianGran Wed 02-Mar-22 18:54:10

No brand names to recommend, but we purchased pillows with feather centres and down surround. They add the firmness of the feather with more comfort of soft down. More expensive, but will last for years.

I am not partial to fiber-fill, but many people do like them, and they come in different firmness levels.

A year ago, I bought a pillow like this but from Lidl and have found it really helps with my arthritic shoulder.

I've got a contoured memory foam pillow (Amazon) and I've found it really good

Pillows are very much a personal choice, there are so many variants. I prefer feather, it means I can mold it around my neck to get the right thickness of support that I need.

karmalady Wed 02-Mar-22 19:02:13

do you lay on your side or back? on your back you need a flatter pillow so that your body is in alignment. On your side you deep a pillow with depth, approximately the height of your shoulders when you are laying on it

Dunlopillow super comfort pillow is very good, difficult to find these days. The cheapest are £75 each from the sleepshop. I slept well on those and the comfort lasted

I threw a pillow out only last week, held it over my arm and it folded downwards each side, support had gone. I replaced it with a very expensive medium/firm down pillow and have been sleeping very well on that. Price is horrendous for a decent pillow

karmalady Wed 02-Mar-22 19:05:33

The super comfort is for a side sleeper. Now called relyon, just the name has changed

MiniMoon Wed 02-Mar-22 19:28:25

The last pillow I bought was a "memory plus" pillow by Slumberdown.
Specifically designed for back and side sleepers.
I was having a lot of ear pain but since using this pillow my ear is fine.
I've also found that it supports my neck better than my buckwheat pillow.

Mine Wed 02-Mar-22 19:55:05

Thanks for all hour "pillow" suggestions..
Think I'm going to try the Slumberdown memory plus pillow..

Has your posture changed?
I'd been having shoulder and neck pain, gradually worsening and did a lot of Internet surfing looking for a reason. I came to the conclusion that my flat feather pillow wasn't helping me even though as a back sleeper feather pillows had been just the ticket for years.
You see, I've developed a stoop (my daughter pointed it out after not having seen me for 12 months at the start of covid) and need a slightly firmer pillow now.
I'm still looking.

We have a firmer, fuller pillow underneath a Foggarty much softer pillow on top. We both found the memory type too firm, hard? seemed comfy to start with for an hour but then far too hard.

These suit us and I think I bought from The Range.

We have our pillows from here:
www.thewoolroom.com/bedding/wool-pillows/

You can unzip the cover, fluff up the wool filling, add more or take some out to suit ??

I love my Dormeo Octaspring pillow, which came free with a mattress topper. There are three heights, I have the deepest and only use the one. It feels like a brick but supports neck and head really well. I no longer have a stick neck or sore ears. Expensive but available cheaper on Ebay.
I hope you find a pillow to suit you.

Mine I have neck problems too and have tried lots of pillows. At the moment I have a bamboo one from Dunelm that I can pull into my neck but I think I liked my Dunlopillo more.

I’m like the three bears or the princess & the pea when it comes to pillows. I finally found one to suit at Soak & Sleep - “Soft as Down microfibre pillow” soft to medium. There is a huge choice. Give them a go! ?

timetogo2016 Thu 03-Mar-22 11:00:01

We bought "2 Bounce Back" on-line and they are brilliant, very soft and comfortable.
And a great price too.

TillyTrotter Thu 03-Mar-22 11:51:40

I checked and I bought my Bounce Back at The Range timetogo. They are £7 each, but can be bought in packs at a saving.

I use a couple of pillows, which are semi upright, and then a V pillow on top. I then sleep in a semi upright position very comfortably and hardly move all nigh. I started like this after having a hip problem. Before this I never slept on my back, always having been a side sleeper.

I have spent ££££££s on pillows trying to find one that suits me. I have found GX pillows the best although not quite right. The filling doesn't separate or bunch due to the support straps in them. But I find the soft one doesn't offer quite enough support yet the medium one is just a tad too firm.

I think I must be the most impossible person to satisfy when it comes to pillows, I've tried feather, down, a mixture of both, memory foam, cheap ones and very expensive ones. But I haven't tried these V3ra, which one is best classic or deluxe?

I have always had feather filled pillows from a child, so always stuck with that choice, sometimes spending an absolute fortune on the things because I always thought that they were the best for me!
Got to the point where I needed more than one pillow and no amount of fluffing would help them to stay supportive all night.
I finally gave in and went to a microfibre filling last summer (actually bought the pillow from a Mill shop on ebay during one of the lockdowns . It's box sided , maybe firmer than I was originally used to, but can honestly say that I have slept so much better . Only draw back is having to buy larger Oxford pillowcases as the pillow is thicker than the feather one but bought 100% cotton - lovely and cool all night !

Mummer Fri 04-Mar-22 12:32:41

Always spend as absolute much as you can afford on decent pillows. We have 100% Hungarian goose down that are
Akin to resting one's head on a fluffy cloud in fluffy town, on fluffy planet!!! You can squish them to support you however you sleep and they never ever ever go out of shape or prick you with quills as they're made from down not with cheap and nasty feathers! DH has allergies to feather so it's a must, and they can be washed in laundromats big machines too! You must invest to save your necks!

karmalady Fri 04-Mar-22 12:43:25

mummer, me too. Mine are uk goose down. I have not had neck ache since using them.

I did buy woolroom pillows, I have their mattress covers and duvets but I never did get on with the pillows. They are filled with small blobs of wool, smell like sheep, which I am used to as I am a spinner but they also flatten during the night.

The down ones are far the best after a lifetime of searching for a good pillow. I cringed at the cost tbh but now have more than one so am good for a long time ahead. So much down in one pillow, I only need one under my head as a side sleeper

Missdeke the Deluxe pillow is the one with the zip so you can open the cover, fluff up the wool balls and adjust the volume if necessary. It's also washable but read the instructions on the description.
The Classic pillow has no zip and is dry clean only.

We have the Deluxe. They're on offer at the moment but there are sales and offers quite regularly.

I bought a neck support pillow when they were on offer in Aldi. At first it seemed far too hard but now I wouldn't be without it and my neck and shoulders feel so much better.
