Clive Myrie left Ukraine and made his way to Romania, he is now back in the UK. He and his colleague Lyse Doucet did an amazing job of reporting from war torn Kyiv, I have the greatest admiration for them both. Clive says he want to return to Kyiv, the whereabouts of Lyse Doucet are uncertain she may also have left the Ukraine. The reporter who has taken over from Clive Myrie is Rita Chakrabarti whom I believe is in Lviv. Well done to Clive, Lyse and all the many press out there including camera Men and Women. All good wishes to Rita Chakrabarti and all those who are courageous enough to bring us news from this war torn country.

I listen to the BBC World Service and I have such huge respect and gratitude towards these reporters.

I completely agree with you, the information coming through overnight is top quality reporting.

So glad they are safe. I think it was harder for Clive - not experienced at being in a war zone. Probably had next to no sleep. VERY proud of this aspect of BBC. Also of them not buckling and just sending white men.

He may not have been in war zones recently but he's not a novice.

He was in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq too.
In fact, in 2003 he was embedded with one of the Royal Marine corps during the invasion of Iraq.

I'm quite partial to Clive Myrie grin

Ditto Judy4, we all love Clive on Mastermind and wondered how his wife and family felt while doing his stint in Ukraine.

James Waterhouse is a good reporter in Ukraine, knowledgeable and calm.

Laura K is excellent on Newscast ( after Question Time tomorrow night, BBC1 ). She reveals a softer side & a great sense of humour.

Well done to all our news reporters and cameramen in war zones, and other dangerous situations around the world. They all do an incredible job. Here's hoping they will all return to their homes safely, the sooner the better.

They have my admiration and gratitude, and I’m very pleased Clive Myrie is safely back in the UK. Whatever danger and deprivation she’s facing, Lyle Doucet always looks as bright as a button and manages to convey hope in the direst of circumstances.

I’ve always wondered where the reporters and camera people stay when reporting from a war zone, and who feeds them? They all did a fantastic job in what must be dreadful conditions.

No one has mentioned James Waterhouse who is still in Kyiv, I believe Lyse Doucet is still there too. Both exceptionally brave.
I also thought Clive Myrie was amazing. Not an easy job, fraught with personal danger. And who is their cameraman??

Aveline Wed 09-Mar-22 14:28:10

Oh yes. Surely these brave reporters will be given some sort of reward.

When I looked up about Lyse Doucet recently I noticed CM (a very high Canadian medal) and OBE after her name. I think she deserves something even higher for the work she does reporting in war zones. She is amazing

I am glad Clive Myrie is back, he has done an excellent job, but has looked so tired recently.

I heartily dislike Laura Ks style. She borders on rude.

Shelagh6 Wed 09-Mar-22 12:48:42

Clive Myrie looked so tired - his eyes especially - I wonder how much dust etc. from the bombing and explosions - must be excessive - they ALL do a fabulous job and always have done. They are too, immensely brave and impressive.

Those who don’t like Laura may not know that she is in any case leaving her current role at Easter. I don’t know if they have announced who is replacing her yet, I hope it’s somebody equally incisive.

Laura K is an excellent journalist whose job is to ask awkward questions. Great taste in coats too!

I like Laura K. She's an excellent journalist. Her job is to ask difficult questions and she has terrific taste in coats!

Clive was so impressive with his reporting. His empathy and sadness at this terrible situation was evident for all to see. The BBC reporters are so brave and the quality of the reporting second to none. For all its faults the BBC is doing a wonderful job

She, Laura K, speaks at least 3 or 4 languages, or more, I thought/ think she would be good at reporting from the Ukraine...

I too am relieved that Clive is home now - - he looked so very tired and did a great job from right inside the war area. The BBC are lucky to have him. Lyse needs to come out or at least travel further east to relative safety - she looks exhausted too and the whole crew must be quite scared now. . .

HannahLoisLuke Wed 09-Mar-22 11:38:34

I’m also relieved that he’s back. Saw Rita Chakrabarti on last night ( wearing a fabulous silver padded coat) and wondered if she’d gone to replace Clive. Lyse Doucet still there, she’s like another Kate Adie. Didn’t the military used to say they couldn’t begin the fighting until Kate arrived ?

Hats off to the BBC for the standard of reporting. Those journalists must be rewarded for their courage. I’ve tried watching other tv news stations but they’re not a patch on the Beeb.
