Dress to suit your style - not your age. Be flamboyant

Well, I started making my own clothes when I retired three years ago but I'm not sure I'd go as far as some of those in the article! But I agree, why shouldn't older women (and men for that matter) assert their individuality and personality?

That’s me on the right!…(and if you believe that…) but I have to say I do admire women who have their own sense of style and just go for it!

I would like to be able to find some clothes....no shops in our small town and many others. I order on line and send things back time after time. Can't seem to get clothes buying sorted at all now.

There's an Australian pattern company that does simple styles in a wide range of styles. It's called Style Arc. I haven't bought one yet but keep meaning to as I've lots of dress fabric bought years ago and unused. I just haven't got round to it. But they do look simple.

I think I'll stay with basic thanks, whatever it is, rather than be seen in some of these outfits!

I don’t want to be flamboyant. My style is definitely not bright yellow dungarees and a stripey jumper.

I’ve never been flamboyant and don’t intend to start now. The family would probably think I was losing my marbles 😂

Is it just me but I rarely find anything I like. I definitely think there’s a gap in the market for older ladies who don’t want to look like mutton dressed as lamb but don’t want to wear beige either.

I don't think I've ever been what you'd call 'flamboyant', but I'm usually to be found sporting rock/goth/metal t-shirts or sweatshirts and my Doc Martens!

Gran22boys I couldn’t agree more. There’s also a gap in the market for clothes that fit the large number of us who have thick waists.

I do wear quite colourful clothes a lot of the time but I never look like a gnome. And don't really want to.

Not everybody has a flamboyant personality. I'm very quiet but I'm fairly confident. Confident enough to know I don't need to look as if I've escaped from Hobbiton to attract attention anyway.

I’m not at all ‘flamboyant’, but ‘arty’ I suppose. Can’t wear more than two colours at one time. No black and I never wear red.I think those three ladies in that photograph look like a girl band …albeit rather older.

I don’t ever remember seeing my two grans clothes they were hidden behind big wraparound aprons. My mum always dressed rather smart she had a large family to look after but had a nice appearance. I will be 70 this year I dress the way I want and always have done nothing radical though.

I just wear comfortable clothes, I like a splash of colour but nothing over the top, am rather short and stout so look like a gonk if dressed too garishly.

Today I am off to the Ivy, for a show and dinner.
Looking at what I’m wearing, I feel I am too glittery - even my sandals are glittery - and oh my gosh, my toe-nails are shabby 😫- should have painted them - too late now

I love colour. I always have, but what does flamboyant mean? Zandra Rhodes or Vivien Westwood?

If that is the case count me out, but I am currently wearing a deep raspberry pink sweater over dark green trousers, I have a lovely orange sweater, worn over black trouses or a red sweater worn similarly. my winter handbag is lime green doesn't match anything so its not a problem.

I think we should wear what is comfortable. If you are a beige mouse, then dress like that and do not be apologetic. Wear clothes you feel confident in and ignore articles like this.

However, please can be drop this dreary concept of 'age appropriate' clothes. What on earth are they? OK, as a baby nappies and babygrows look right on all under 1s, but thereafter how people look at any given age is so variable, even as children, that short of school uniform I cannot think of any garment that can possible be 'age appropriate' ie appropriate to the full range of people in a given age bracket.

Flamboyant if you can carry it, dress always with style whatever you like
A friends wife was flamboyant, slim natural blonde always wore red to a party, she would dance with every man in the room, then at about 10pm drag her husband out of the bar. Sadly we lost her to cancer at 60 last year, everyone was asked to wear something red ar the funeral, flamboyant to the end
