Today is International Women’s Day. So who do you think the Vagina Museum (the world’s first bricks and mortar museum dedicated to the gynaecological anatomy) chose to celebrate? Trans women. And instantly closed their Twitter feed to comments. I wonder why?

A type of woman never will be - a woman.
Identifying as a woman will never be - a woman

Spot on post Bellanonna

Chewbacca Tue 08-Mar-22 23:36:25

No they are women, trans is just their type of women.
Bit like
White woman
Black woman
Tall woman
Old woman
Young woman
Etc

Apart from the scientific fact their gametes are male and can never be altered....

I disagree Violet Sky. I’m happy with tall, short, black, white because that’s exactly what they are. Nobody became tall, black, white etc. it’s an integral part of their make-up.

A trans woman is actually a man.

Absolutely.

I suppose it makes sense - trans women are women, after all.

What rubbish.

VioletSky Tue 08-Mar-22 23:22:42

Why are people assuming what the mean things said about trans women would be?

That's not logical unless people on some level think their assumptions about what the mean things might be are actually a bit mean.

Anyway, the vagina museum is trans inclusive and supportive, not really worth worrying about, nothing taken away from women.

A really beautiful moment to celebrate how the medical community can create a vagina for someone in the same way they can build or rebuild any other missing or lost appendage.

I'm happy for them to show their support and highlight amazing trans women in history

A nipple created for someone who has lost tissue due to cancer is still a nipple even if it does not have all the functions of one.

Nothing wrong with celebrating created vaginas or those who wish they had one.

Again, nothing taken away from women.

So nothing really worth an argument here and losing any sleep over

Night all

I keep popping back to Twitter, just to see if JKR has posted again. She’s been wonderful yesterday and today.

maddyone Tue 08-Mar-22 23:11:38

I’m in bed already but busy wasting time on Gransnet.

Callistemon21 Tue 08-Mar-22 23:06:45

I shall go to ? before I'm accused of inappropriate frivolity.

Night night.

Smileless2012 Tue 08-Mar-22 23:03:12

I would be happy with tall trans woman, short trans woman, black trans woman, white trans woman etc. Bellanonna "because that's exactly what they are".

grin I agree Casdon it does seem inappropriate. Is there an International Men's Day, and if so I wonder how men would feel about the Penis museum celebrating trans men.

Casdon Tue 08-Mar-22 22:59:32

My thoughts exactly Callistemon21!

maddyone Tue 08-Mar-22 22:58:21

And more information, thanks trisher. As I said, I thought it was in Amsterdam. Obviously not it seems.

Callistemon21 Tue 08-Mar-22 22:57:30

Casdon

I just looked it up Smileless, and it made me laugh. Apparently the world’s only penis museum is in Iceland, which seems quite inappropriate!

It's so cold is there much to see?

maddyone Tue 08-Mar-22 22:56:54

Ooops, Casdon’s just corrected me. I wonder why I didn’t visit when I was in Iceland?

trisher Tue 08-Mar-22 22:56:30

maddyone

I didn’t know there is a Vagina Museum in the UK. Or is it somewhere else?

No it's British It's in Bethnal Green. www.vaginamuseum.co.uk
I thought what a lot of rubbish initially but they look to have a lot of young women actively involved. So any progress and involvement in feminism seems good to me.

maddyone Tue 08-Mar-22 22:55:45

Thanks for the information Callistemon grin

Galaxy I think there’s one in Amsterdam, or is that a Penis Museum grin

Casdon Tue 08-Mar-22 22:55:15

I dont think the museum exists in a physical sense at the moment, it lost its premises some time ago but was supposed to be re opening soon.

Bellanonna Tue 08-Mar-22 22:52:36

Callistemon! ?

Mollygo Tue 08-Mar-22 22:51:42

VioletSky

Because people would go and say mean things about trans women.
What’s mean about saying a man is not female?

Bellanonna Tue 08-Mar-22 22:51:21

I disagree Violet Sky. I’m happy with tall, short, black, white because that’s exactly what they are. Nobody became tall, black, white etc. it’s an integral part of their make-up.

It's next door to the Penis Museum.

Smileless2012 Tue 08-Mar-22 22:49:40

Yes it is "bloody depressing" Doodledog. What is the world coming too when International Women's Day can't be kept for womensad.

Doodledog Tue 08-Mar-22 22:43:44

So men are claiming gynaecological anatomy now? Even the self-identifying ones who have male anatomy?

Sadly, I'm not surprised any more, but it's bloody depressing.
