Tracked packages via Royal Mail - March 2022

New rules in today, although apparently it should have been 1st April.

Any Tracked Packages will not be left on your doorstep or in your ‘safe place’ unless the sender of the packages say that it’s ok to do so ( and if the info comes up on the Postman’s hand held device when he gets to your door).
So when ordering anything, you must tell the sender that when they post the packages they must specify where it can be left.
Our Postman also had to photograph the doorstep.
Apparently packages have been left either on doorsteps or if your postman knows your safe place somewhere else, a package than arrives from a Courier and coincidentally the Royal Mail package is not there when the homeowner comes home, that’s the reason he was given.
Anyway I was at home, if I had been out then the parcels would have been taken back to the sorting office for reposting then you would have to be at home to receive it or go in during office hours to collect it.
I order online so I will have to check the box which asks me where it can be safely left in future.

I do think, if possible it is a good idea to have your stuff sent to a pick-up point where you can collect at your leisure. But not all traders offer this.
We live at a difficult rural address and are gated. Most of the time we get the couriers deliver but Hermes, for one, will not come to our door if gates are locked - despite being given the code. Royal Mail is very good.

I agree with Boz Royal Mail are very good, I’d much rather have to get my parcel re-delivered or even have to go and pick it up than not get it at all.
Hermes dump parcels anywhere, and take no responsibility if parcel goes missing. I’ve had photos of the grass outside my block as being “proof of delivery”.
To be fair, I realise I’m maligning the careful drivers, and I know that they have to work very long hours to make a decent wage.

I had a parcel coming from the USA. I was not in and had a card from Parcelforce saying to go to my local Post Office to collect it. I had to take either my driver's licence or, a household bill with my name and address on it to retrieve my parcel. It was all straightforward enough, I just had a form to sign, that was it. Having said this, on a previous occasion, it was the sorting office I'd to collect from.
