I thought she often went to engagements without Philip ?

I don’t think she’s as mobile as she was. She had an audience with her service chiefs recently and told them she found it difficult to move about. She needs and deserves a rest from it all now.

She seems to be having mobility problems, not surprising at her age. It’s one thing sitting at her desk looking through papers, or greeting visitors virtually. Quite another travelling to say, Westminster Abbey, getting out the car, walking into the abbey, then sitting and standing through a church service, then doing it all in reverse, to say nothing of greeting a line up of dignitaries. All the while under the scrutiny of the tv cameras.

I honestly don’t think she is bored with it all, more a case of the spirit being willing, but the flesh being weak.

Also don’t think the QM was ‘everywhere’ until she died. She certainly looked great for her age on her 100th birthday, but that was quite a while before she died.

Good point about the stubbornness BlueBelle ?
It’s probably held her in good stead in the past

BlueBelle Sun 13-Mar-22 06:48:16

She’s old, she s frail, she shouldn’t be putting the pressure of work on her 96 year old shoulders, however I can image shes quite a stubborn lady too, so probably she doing the insisting

I don’t think she’ll last two seconds without her Queen role

Frailty I think rather than illness. Standing to greet people has recently seemed very difficult. My guess is there is much frustration at reduced stamina.

QEQM was widowed young and had time to get used to it. In addition, she never had all the affairs of state to deal with, not to mention errant sons and grandsons.
The Queen is 96, in full possession of her marbles, but understandably getting very frail. One is at that age - even without a Commonwealth to reign over.

FannyCornforth Sun 13-Mar-22 06:17:12

I think that she’s probably just very bored and tired with it all.
It wouldn’t be surprising if she was a bit depressed after what she’s had to put up with recently.
She needs to retire and do exactly what she wants to do.

Put up her feet in front of the racing with a packet of custard creams…

Yes I agree about The Queen Mother she was every where until she died.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 13-Mar-22 05:51:33

She did quite a lot of things without him and he did things without her. I don’t think she’s particularly ill, but old and becoming more frail. She doesn’t seem to have quite the stamina her mother had.

I wonder if the Queen is cancelling her Royal appointments because she is ill or is it because she is missing Prince Phillip being at her side supporting her. She very rarely went anywhere without him.
