I wonder if the Queen is cancelling her Royal appointments because she is ill or is it because she is missing Prince Phillip being at her side supporting her. She very rarely went anywhere without him.

I don't defer to people just because of who their ancestors are.

Maybe you do.

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-22 13:34:05

Sorry eazybee my reply was regards ‘getting old is horrible’

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-22 13:32:21

The alternative is worse

eazybee Mon 14-Mar-22 13:31:53

Why all the fuss?
The Queen has decided she is not able to attend the Commonwealth service therefore Prince Charles is taking her place, as he will in due course anyway.
I have every faith in the Queen's judgement; she knows what she is capable of doing and what to relinquish.

I think the Queen has become very frail recently She’s had covid recently and that probably hasn’t helped. I thought it looked like she’d lost a lot of weight and she’s very hunched over. My mil was like that and she has osteoporosis which had caused little fractures in her spine. It’s sad seeing the Queen looking so frail suddenly isn’t it. Getting old is horrible. ?

Despite all indications to the contrary, we are still a democracy. So "the people" decide how the country will be run. And we have agreed to live in a system whereby a person who has been the HoS for 70 years, purely because of who her ancestors were, gets to decide what the responsibilities of a HoS are, and what she can pass on to another person who is only there because of who his ancestors are.

That's what we've agreed is a good way to run the country. confused.

If this was a Developing Country we'd think they had a long way to go.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 14-Mar-22 13:29:24

Or said what you meant.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 14-Mar-22 13:28:21

You may not have said what you meant volver.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 14-Mar-22 13:27:11

You’re right Annie. And they might become loose cannons, very dangerous.

volver Mon 14-Mar-22 13:25:47

Yes. My words.

Did you not understand them?

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 14-Mar-22 13:25:05

‘It’s a funny way to run a country’. Your words volver.

volver Mon 14-Mar-22 13:22:52

Annie, you're making things up.

Anniebach Mon 14-Mar-22 13:21:11

GSM you don’t get it sorry, the aged must be hidden away, some don’t ’do tolerance, understanding’ here now

volver Mon 14-Mar-22 13:21:00

Where did I say that she ran the country?

We all have a say in the way that this country is run and we have decided that we'll stick with the late 18th century model.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 14-Mar-22 13:18:59

She doesn’t run the country volver, the government of the day do that.

Noreen3 Mon 14-Mar-22 13:17:15

It's sad to see her looking frail.Losing her beloved husband hasn't helped,I hope she can attend his memorial service. We didn't see her out and about much during the last few years,so we notice the difference in her more now.Lockdown had an affect on us all, even the Queen. It would be hard for her now to travel to an event and have to walk to her seat, and she probably wouldn't want to be seen in a wheelchair. It would be lovely to see her out again in her bright colours, but may not happen now.

volver Mon 14-Mar-22 13:16:48

She chooses to because her whole life has been about how important she is to this country, and that she and only she can fulfil the role.

Even though she is no longer capable of fulfilling the role.

So she chooses to do the bits she thinks she can manage at her age and with her state of health.

And somebody else, who happens to be her blood relative, does all the other bits.

Its a funny way to run a country, really it is.

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 14-Mar-22 13:10:30

She doesn’t have to work volver, she chooses to.

HannahLoisLuke Mon 14-Mar-22 13:09:40

She is understandably frail at her age. I don’t think it’s to do with not having Prince Philip around. After all, he retired to Wood Farm at Sandringham in 2017 and didn’t accompany her on engagements for those years.
She’s been remarkably fit and active until recently, even riding several times a week and it must be a great loss to her to find she can’t do what she used to.
Regarding the QM, she was out and about, generally enjoying herself, but in a wheelchair pushed by Backstairs Billy for quite a while before she died.

FannyCornforth Mon 14-Mar-22 13:09:25

Ooh-ohh! Get you Kim! ? ?

Nowt wrong in being interested in dogs!

Theoddbird Mon 14-Mar-22 13:08:19

At 96 I don't think she needs to give a reason. She will be resting and contemplating her life and spending time with her family. She is an amazing woman and it will be a very sad day when she leaves us....

volver Mon 14-Mar-22 13:07:31

Ach, this democracy, its not all its cracked up to be.

Let the posh folks run the country, that's probably for the best.

hmm

Kim19 Mon 14-Mar-22 13:06:40

Fanny, maybe the dog confusion is indicative of the trivial unimportance of it?

Sparklefizz Mon 14-Mar-22 13:04:56

volver But no, let's stick with people in jewelled hats, because we can't really be trusted to decide on our own leaders, eh?

Well, actually we can't, can we? (Biden, Reagan, Trump, Corbyn, Johnson)

volver Mon 14-Mar-22 13:03:00
