How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

I've had a lot of birthdays! But I still enjoy receiving cards and friendly messages - especially from children and grandchildren - but of course also from friends and other family. I haven't got room for much more 'stuff'! Am unsure what to say when asked what I'd like - recently have asked for donations to the DEC for refugees. Because of Covid I don't want to go to a restaurant either. What do others do or like to happen on their birthdays?

Funnily enough it's been my birthday lately.
I don't publish my birthday in social media so don't get the usual notifications from many pals on there like most.
Best friend card and unexpected present as we don't usually do them and meal out together( love her)
Partner gave me new pajamas that I'd bought for him to give me and the worst flowery card I wouldn't even give to my dead grandma
Daughter, yet again nothing, so wrapped up in her own thing even though I had to go to her place to meet a workman on that morning.
I got on the bus home, but stayed on and went to Macdonald's for lunch. I do enjoy a burger X
So a fun afternoon buying myself a silly present of a tiny succulent from the pound shop. Then home to "what's for tea"
Next year (birthday with a zero)
I'm buggering off to somewhere warm, anyone want to come with???

I’m 70 next month and my 3 adult kids have blocked out a whole weekend in my diary and told me not to make any plans and not to ask any questions ? I can’t wait ????‍♂️
Like many other mums/Nan’s I don’t need anything, but time with them all together is just absolutely priceless.

I have had amazing birthdays over the years. I graduated on two of them (years apart). I flew to Brisbane one year, giving me an extended birthday! I have danced on tables, held parties, woken up in notable cities around the world - Wellington, Auckland, Basel, Berlin, Osaka, Paris, London. I have enjoyed past birthdays with loved ones now long gone, and have embraced present birthdays hearing "Happy Birthday, dear Nana" several times now (sometimes on random days that are not my birthday!). I enjoy strawberries and Baileys as a birthday breakfast and I often BBQ with family later in the afternoon/evening. I absolutely LOVE birthdays and get very excited, as you can tell. One very happy birthday, I even married my best friend in the whole world. I am so blessed.

In bed under the duvet waiting for tomorrow!

I have to plan it myself, if I want to do something on my birthday, as DH is unintrested in birthdays, both his own and others.

I find it sad that there is no-one left who remembers my birthday, so try to get through it as best as I can.

My family are rubbish, husband has forgotten my birthday the last 2 years and the rest of my family make little effort. I am the ‘events’ organiser of the family so usually plan a meal or party tea but if I didn’t the day would pass without pomp or ceremony or even a bloody card for that matter ?

A different one for me this year year I'm going out!! Alas after 2 lockdown birthdays it's not what I'd hoped for......a visit to hospital to see the physio and a wound check and staples removed on my knee replacement. At least it's going out ???

Cards from DH, friends and family. DH and I don't do birthday presents now unless it's a significant birthday. Usually some kind of voucher from family - I love a voucher. DH and I used to go out for an evening meal but nowadays we use our bus passes to go out for a lovely lunch and then get the bus back and fall asleep on the sofa.

I'm always disappointed if my birthday doesn't coincide with a karate session. This year my birthday (11th Feb) was on a Friday. We have junior (children) and senior (adult) sessions on Fridays. One of the parents brought a huge cake, which we shared with all the children, and they all sang Happy Birthday. That was lovely. Next year will also match with a karate session and it's a really lively one on Saturdays, but not the year after (no karate on Sundays). 2025's birthday will be on a Tuesday and we do have a class. Yip!

Cards and lunch out with DH.

I had a big birthday last month - one of those with a 0 at the end. We went to the Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent as I'm mad on cats - that was wonderful.

And, because Covid doesn't bother me, we went to a restaurant on the night itself for a family meal with 13 of us. I wish I could do it all over again.

My family don't know when my birthday is. Never asked?

Odd!

I would love a surprise based on someone’s (anyone’s) understanding of what I like but never do for myself. A trip out, a picnic, going to the cinema, a family get together (where I am not cooking). I missed my chance this year - I have been given lots of gardening vouchers but my local garden centre doesn’t take them - I should have hinted that I would have liked my car professionally valeted - nice and clean and shiny inside and out - what a treat!

Lunch is good for me.
No dressing up, no booking.
Just walk in, eat nice food, cup of coffee, and out again.

I have a big birthday this summer and I am hoping to do something special with a special person, not sure what yet but we have time to plan, maybe a quiet evening watching a film, a few drinks and something nice to eat, quiet and special.

A day at a spa to relax.

I was born on November 5th and, as it was war time, I never saw fireworks until I was 7 or 8. I always had a fireworks party when my friends and I would watch my dad and uncle lighting the blue touch paper with their cigarette stubs. As an adult I enjoyed some spectacular displays but now, hanging around in a cold field, with cold hands and cold feet has rather lost its charm. The best treat is to have as many of my family around me as possible, preferably in a warm restaurant.

I always go on holiday, usually abroad when it's my birthday with my husband, I've got a big number birthday coming up soon so rather than have my children having to do anything, I don't like a fuss, I've already told them I'm away.

Harris27 Tue 15-Mar-22 18:08:38

Cake and coffee with friends and a nice pub meal with hubby on the day.

kissngate Tue 15-Mar-22 19:26:54

As my birthday is in summer I always want a walk by the sea, a seafood lunch then find somewhere selling rum n raisin icecream with a chocolate flake. Easily pleased.

AreWeThereYet Tue 15-Mar-22 19:35:03

As quietly as possible with no fuss. With Mr A preferably but if that's not possible for some reason then on my own.

bridie54 Tue 15-Mar-22 19:42:33

I love birthdays. Always make cake, love receiving actual cards which sit out for at least a week. Facebook posts just aren’t the same.
Usually we take the cake and get the family , sisters , brother and SIL , together to share it. My DC live too far away but I catch up with them by phone and DD always posts her card/present if I haven’t seen her around the time. DS forgot this year but he has his own stuff going on so I let it go.
I probably have a few lunches or coffees with different friends to celebrate too. Why not?

CBBL Tue 15-Mar-22 20:21:07

I like to receive cards or text messages - and a meal out with my husband is fine. Not keen on fuss or parties.
