Ive seen lots of people stull wearing masks in M &S.
Same with Waitrose
Sainsburys, I would say a third are still wearing masks.
In Lidl theres a smattering of mask wearing people.

On the other hand I had to call into Asda yesterday as I'd run out of milk
It was extremely busy and NO ONE was wearing a mask!
Well I was, and one or two of the employees. But that was it.
It seemed to be full of kids coughing and sniffing as well.
I found myself sanitising my hands on the way out

Prepared to be told I'm being snobbyhmmgrin
But, why are some supermarkets more This is Disease Central than others?

"Mummer* I love your comments and totally agree. Thought we were supposed to be class less now anyway.

Seeing as all scientists and health advisors are saying there's little chance of anybody escaping it that might be the reason some people are just letting nature take its course. So to speak. However the more vulnerable, scared, or anxious someone is they are more likely to wear a mask.

Well, you won't be winning any popularity contests here today. grin

They wear them in Aldi more than in Coles. The ALDIs here are quite upmarket these days. Costco still expect you to wear them. American shop.

I fail to see the relevance of the "up market" ? What is this anyway, anyone who earns too much money for not doing an awful lot? Or those who's wives have completely given the job fron ta miss since they left school and married some twerp who was an overpaid underworked "middle manager" in 60s/70s/80s ? Answers on a gold edged postal card please....sanitised of course...

Old people don't they drive you nutz?! Masks dangling under noses, removing them to speak, wearing under chin!!! Does one become completely unable to follow simple instructions after a certain age?

grin

@Amalegra
I hate it when they imagine a loose mask will do anything at all to protect anyone. A lot of people seem to be wearing masks over their mouths, leaving their noses sticking out over the top!

Around one in ten shoppers are mask wearers in my local Tesco, and about a third of the staff.

I'm irritated by people not wearing masks on London buses. Apparently they think that public transport is where most people catch Covid here. And everybody I know who has been on a plane recently has been Covid positive if they tested after their trip.

There is 0 evidence that masks prevent covid

Think you've just made that up.....!

Almost everyone in our Waitrose wears a mask, and our closest Sainsbury's is about half and half.
I don't go near Lidl or Aldi at present, as their mask wearing customers are very few, and wild horses couldn't force me into Asda!
I've been getting my shopping delivered by Ocado for over two years now, and love it. It was a slight nuisance when they dropped Waitrose in favour of M&S, but we're very close to Waitrose, and I find I get what I want from M&S via Ocado, whereas when visiting the store, items I wanted were often out of stock!

Amalegra Sun 20-Mar-22 11:47:50

I suppose I notice about a third of people mask wearing in my local Sainsbury’s the main supermarket where I shop. As I myself don’t mask up, I can’t say it is of too much interest to me. I do however make sure that, as a non mask wearer, I don’t get too near them as I don’t want them to feel uncomfortable. I have on occasion been rudely criticised for not wearing a mask from people with a limp bit of paper hanging loosely from their face with large gaps at the side. Wouldn’t stop a golf ball getting through let alone an absolutely microscopic virus! I have, of course politely pointed this out to them but they haven’t liked it much I’m afraid.

MissAdventure Sun 20-Mar-22 11:45:45

I've noticed that it is primarily older people who have their masks under their noses.
I wonder where they shop?

Nannashirlz Sun 20-Mar-22 11:45:19

Well where I live I’d say all supermarkets shops are 50/50 but I do when in shops but I’m vulnerable so feel I’m protecting myself but I’ve noticed sanitizer is starting to disappear from them. I used it before covid and still do so hopefully prices will come back down lol

Were vulnerable people not vulnerable before covid? Surely they were just as vulnerable to the flu? And no one wore masks then.

I shop mostly in Tesco and Aldi and at an estimate there are about half wearing masks.

I have gone back to shopping online and in small local shops, much easier.

Farzanah Sun 20-Mar-22 11:30:46

I think that people who have the most to lose, (their lives, or risk of long covid) such as the elderly and immunosuppressed are still wearing masks. Perhaps others with relatives, or who are mindful of others are the other few remaining mask wearers.
Hospital admissions from covid are going up, and the majority of those now catching omicron are over 70.
This is what living with covid looks like, and not without a cost.

Bluebel Sun 20-Mar-22 11:30:03

Maddyone, the personel attack seems to be anyone who dares to shop in the likes of Asda,Tesco etc.

I’m afraid I’m going to say the unsayable and then you can all slate me for it. More people who are older wear masks and more middle class people wear masks and that’s why M+S and Waitrose have more mask wearers. If you want to you can slate me you can, but it won’t change the truth.

Ooh you nasty judgmental person you!
That's wrecked my whole Sunday.?

Actually i agree with you. Nothing wrong with stating facts.
For the regularly offended -
For the record I shop in Waitrose Sainsburys and M &S .
I ALSO regularly shop in Lidl Aldi and pre pandemic, regularly shopped in Asda.
