Old people don't they drive you nutz?! Masks dangling under noses, removing them to speak, wearing under chin!!! Does one become completely unable to follow simple instructions after a certain age?

They wear them in Aldi more than in Coles. The ALDIs here are quite upmarket these days. Costco still expect you to wear them. American shop.

I fail to see the relevance of the "up market" ? What is this anyway, anyone who earns too much money for not doing an awful lot? Or those who's wives have completely given the job fron ta miss since they left school and married some twerp who was an overpaid underworked "middle manager" in 60s/70s/80s ? Seeing as all scientists and health advisors are saying there's little chance of anybody escaping it that might be the reason some people are just letting nature take its course. So to speak. However the more vulnerable, scared, or anxious someone is they are more likely to wear a mask.

I’m afraid I’m going to say the unsayable and then you can all slate me for it. More people who are older wear masks and more middle class people wear masks and that’s why M+S and Waitrose have more mask wearers. If you want to you can slate me you can, but it won’t change the truth.

You are right. It’s the same in my area, although the big plastic dividers at the Sainsbury checkouts have now gone, most customers are still wearing masks. Same in M&S and Waitrose.
I was also asked to wear one in the optician the other day when I went to buy some over glasses sunglasses, and invited to sanitise my hands.
Asda is a bit far for me but the last time I went there, whilst masks were still mandatory most people were not wearing one,
Tesco is about 50/50

There will never be a genuinely classless society, it’s simple human nature to compare oneself to others, either favourably or otherwise.
The wearing of a masks has nothing to do with class either, more likely to do with consideration of others, or lack of it.

Another consideration as we are on the subject that some areas are posher than others so mask wearing and general consideration for others might be observed. Therefore in a Waitrose in a posh town should be almost 100% whereas a down at heel towns Asda would be much less. I don’t think for some reason you should use Lidl or Aldi in comparison as although cheap they are good quality stores with nice champagne and other “ middle class “ items ! ?

I suppose, in the interests of actual facts, rather than anecdotal ones, we should know what percentage of shoppers wear masks properly.
No point in 98 percent wearing them if 50 percent have them under their bugle.

I don’t think there’s any difference in the shops I frequent. This is Scotland where masks are still mandated. There’s been an increase in people wearing ‘Exempt’ lanyards, generally older people who look quite frail and as if catching Covid would be pretty unpleasant for them.

In Scotland currently 1 in 14 has Covid so I’m not sure that masks are effective against BA-2 Covid.

i think it is more Age related as waitrose generally attracts the more mature person as younger people have less disposable income. there are 2 Aldi in a city I sometimes shop in. the one store had none of the staff wearing a mask - despite the g't rules. the other had the opposite as all staff wearing them and I was told off when the mask was near the edge of my nose. I visited a large Asda and there were 6 people wearing a mask - me and hubby included. the rest of the staff and 50 other customers were bare faced.

We still try to shop online. When we do shop in person we go to Asda. We turn up at opening time and nearly everyone still wears a mask. If we go to Aldi we go mid morning and i would say it's 50/50. We were the only ones in masks at B&Q.

I do worry about the no masks needed now given we are being told cases are on the increase. DH very vulnerable and I do worry about being so exposed in shops and taking the dreaded virus home. Hardly visit supermarkets but last week did notice hardly any masks being worn. I had mine on.

I shop in Asda btw and they have some lovely plants in today.

I’m in Wales and usually shop in Tesco’s. I would say that throughout the pandemic mask wearing has been almost 100% from customers and less than 50% from staff. I have complained and spoken to the manager on many occasions particularly as a PA system announces the necessity for mask wearing by all every few minutes. I’m usually met by a tired look and nothing more. Have given up now.

Actually i agree with you. Nothing wrong with stating facts.
For the regularly offended -
For the record I shop in Waitrose Sainsburys and M &S .
I ALSO regularly shop in Lidl Aldi and pre pandemic, regularly shopped in Asda.

I was in M&S on Thursday, Waitrose on Friday, and
Sainsbury’s yesterday as I forgot to get something on Friday and Sainsbury’s is closer to me than Waitrose. I was surprised to see how many younger people not wearing masks in M&S. Loads wearing masks in Waitrose and again almost every young person in Sainsbury’s not wearing a mask.

I should add that there were hundreds of students in Sainsburys.?‍♀️.

I shop online with Tesco , my older friend goes on a Sunday morning again Tesco, hardly any masks today.She wore hers, her son didn't. I thinks it down to personal choice in the end. I don't really think it's a class thing to be honest. I go to Lidl and Aldi usually on a Thursday morning with a different friend. As l said in a previous post, l wear a mask and she doesn't. She also works PT for a high street newsagent and doesn't wear one for work. Again, l would wear one but it's her choice and nothing to do with me. I don't judge her.

I am no always shocked at how many youngsters are in Asda wearing their pyjamas and in hot weather men walking round without shirts on , and no I am not a snob but I do think there are limits lol

I'm in N.Ireland and 1 in 13 people had Covid last week, but yet masks are practically non existent anywhere in my town. I wear mine and I can feel people looking at me like I'm an eejit. A couple I know stopped to talk to me the other day, asking me how I was, etc; and went on to tell me they weren't the best because the both of them had Covid. They were out shopping! I was fuming and said well I don't want to get it and walked off. What is wrong with these spreaders!

I'm also in N.ireland ( Fermanagh) and have been in Tesco,Dunnes and M&S recently. I'd say 75% of customers in Tesco and M&S wearing masks more in Dunnes stores. Only about 50% of Tesco staff wearing masks. I became a fan of Dunnes stores during lockdown as think they were following Republic of Ireland rules early on so stricter than UK.
