Ive seen lots of people stull wearing masks in M &S.
Same with Waitrose
Sainsburys, I would say a third are still wearing masks.
In Lidl theres a smattering of mask wearing people.

On the other hand I had to call into Asda yesterday as I'd run out of milk
It was extremely busy and NO ONE was wearing a mask!
Well I was, and one or two of the employees. But that was it.
It seemed to be full of kids coughing and sniffing as well.
I found myself sanitising my hands on the way out

Prepared to be told I'm being snobbyhmmgrin
But, why are some supermarkets more This is Disease Central than others?

Wow

I haven’t looked at Gransnet for a long time but reading some of these posts reminded me why…narrow minded, nasty judgmental comments from some posters, who clearly don’t live in the real world.

I thought that mask wearing is not mandatory in England any more.
It still is in Scotland. Not sure about Wales and NI.

Daisend1 Sun 20-Mar-22 11:20:24

Although not compulsory I feel compelled to wear a masque when I go into any building where there will be more persons than myself.

Mummer
What an unpleasant post, it’s a personal attack.
Are you a non mask wearer ? Just asking.

Wales has slightly different views on this than over the border. Most people wear them in shops. My Dr surgery has a new prominent notice that masks must be worn as there has been an increase in covid cases. Didn't stop 3 people sitting together in waiting room without masks - other waiting patients unhappy but no-one brave enough to say anything!

There is 0 evidence that masks prevent covid

Perhaps you could quote your source for that comment (opinion.)

The masks are not very effective against transmission of viruses unless its the N type. They make you feel safer but really their effect is minimal. Actually I think people get closer to those wearing masks so spread the virus more

I'm in N.Ireland and 1 in 13 people had Covid last week, but yet masks are practically non existent anywhere in my town. I wear mine and I can feel people looking at me like I'm an eejit. A couple I know stopped to talk to me the other day, asking me how I was, etc; and went on to tell me they weren't the best because the both of them had Covid. They were out shopping! I was fuming and said well I don't want to get it and walked off. What is wrong with these spreaders!

I’m afraid I’m going to say the unsayable and then you can all slate me for it. More people who are older wear masks and more middle class people wear masks and that’s why M+S and Waitrose have more mask wearers. If you want to you can slate me you can, but it won’t change the truth.

Probably also depends on what part of the country you are in. I've noticed regional variations when it comes to mask-wearing.

Thisismyname1953 Sun 20-Mar-22 10:53:29

You all sound so snobby , judging people as to where they shop and whether they wear a mask or not. Does any of it matter ? You shop where you want and wear a mask if you want .
I shop at Asda, Morrisons and Lidl and I don’t wear a mask so if it makes me lower class then I’m fine with that .

Missingmoominmama Sun 20-Mar-22 10:47:53

Staff really shouldn’t have to wear masks though. If you’re popping in for a 15 minute shop, then wear one if you can. Wearing one for a whole day is completely different!

knspol Sun 20-Mar-22 10:47:13

Varies from day to day here, M&S yesterday and only me wearing a mask in the food dept. Last week almost everybody was wearing one.

Missingmoominmama Sun 20-Mar-22 10:45:02

A lot of people are still wearing them in our branch of Booths. Perhaps taking their cue from the staff- they all still wear them.

I went into town yesterday at 10.00am, hardly any masks in M& S or Sainsburys. Maybe a third. Staff not wearing them at all. I still wear mine, my friend doesn't.
On a slightly different subject, my husband attended an appointment at Addenbrookes on Wednesday and he was surprised at the number of people not wearing masks. All nurses and doctors were.

Grandmabatty Fri 18-Mar-22 11:28:38

In my local Aldi, practically everyone still wears masks. Scotland has extended the mask wearing rule til April though.

Mamie Fri 18-Mar-22 11:21:26

Sainsbury's is a good thought JaneJudge. I had a stock of the BHS ones for gardening, but all worn out now. ?

BBbevan Fri 18-Mar-22 10:34:58

Masks in shops are still required in Wales up until the 28th March I believe. Most people comply .
