The Flip Side Of "I Have Never"

(52 Posts)

DanniRae recently asked us what we'd never done. I want to flip that:

What are some of the [riskier] things that you have done?

I'll start:

I have bungee'd.
Heavy petted on a train.
Said the F word accidentally in front of a student (at school).
Survived breast cancer.
Survived a massive DVT.
Married twice.

?? kitty !!

kittylester Sat 19-Mar-22 16:38:26

To be fair, it was unintentional and very hair raising - even the children stopped arguing!!

annodomini Sat 19-Mar-22 16:13:18

Nice work, kitty. Towing a trailer not easy at the best of times! Driving anything in Paris is a challenge. I didn't venture past the Peripherique.

Got on a train alone at Waterloo Station aged 20. After a train, ferry and another very, very long European train journey, almost 2 days later arrived at Roma Termini. My then boyfriend who on finishing his studies had taken off to Europe to visit extended family had asked me to meet him there. I can't remember if it had even occurred to me what I'd do if he hadn't been at the other end in retrospect I didn't have a plan b) who does at that age? Happily he was, we spent the next couple of months driving round Italy, Switzerland and France, I rather over extended the agreed time off from work by several weeks that I'd got my employers to agree to. I really only went back because I'd run out of money but didn't tell them that! I think I was lucky to walk back into my job with just a bit of huffing and puffing from my boss about taking liberties, however, I fronted it out and he got over it smile

Got pulled aside by Israeli security when I was exiting that country, didn't like the fact that I was travelling on a passport in my maiden name, my airline ticket was in my married name (1st marriage) and I was with my now husband who I wasn't married to then and he therefore a different name to me shock They went through all my stuff with a fine tooth comb before they decided I wasn't really a person of interest, how right they were !!

Did the trip of my dreams for my 60th birthday, Buenos Aires, Uruguay, Iguazu Falls which are amazingly extensive and to use that over used expression "awesome" and Rio de Janeiro. So glad I did all that then before Covid put paid to everyone's travel plans.

I've driven round the Arc de Triomphe towing a camping trailer with 5 bickering children in the car and I didn't crash.

A true achievement!!! ??

Chocolatelovinggran Sat 19-Mar-22 14:46:46

GN's, I salute you. I have a lot of catching up to do !

hollysteers Sat 19-Mar-22 10:38:52

Finally stood up to my brute of a father who then broke my nose.
Rehearsed and sang a demanding operatic role heavily pregnant.
Nursed my mother to the end at home with cancer who refused to go to hospital or have any other help (why did I do that?)
Cancer twice myself.
Travelled the world alone (and U.K.) to sing, balancing family life.

This sure seems like boasting!

Yammy Sat 19-Mar-22 10:21:58

Thrown an engagement ring into the Grand Canyon (deliberately)
Slept in the car park at the Pentagon, in a camper van.
Slept under the Eiffel Tower, in a camper van.
Driven up a mountain in Switzerland in spite of the notice which said 'danger'. We moved the barriers.
Fed koalas and kangaroos in a nature reserve near Perth.
Spent a week entirely alone in Sydney.
My life is so tame now!.

JackyB Sat 19-Mar-22 09:28:33

My life has been very tame compared to all these but I am not unhappy about it or disappointed in myself.

The bravest thing I have done in recent years was do a church music course. I flunked the organ part, but held my own with conducting a choir and did really wel in the singing, which was the first time I had sung a whole piece on my own in front of anyone.

Knittynatter Sat 19-Mar-22 09:16:37

I’ve got an Iron Butt certificate! 1000+ miles on a motorbike in less than 24 hours.

Travelled alone around Europe as part of my job.

Survived a brain haemorrhage

Had my marriage destroyed by a ‘celebrity’ who the public adore

Lost four stone in less than 12 months (not connected to the previous statement ??)

Have a wonderful family and, despite some heartbreak, have a marvellously happy life

Curlywhirly Sat 19-Mar-22 06:42:04

I've thought of one at last!
Went tandem paragliding with a lady we met on holiday (the husbands did it first, and then persuaded us to do it). On landing in the sea she had a panic attack and I had to lifesave her back to the speed boat.

Oh, and went with husband and our 2 sons to the top of the World Trade Centre on 11 August 2001 - exactly a month before the terrorist attack.

Naninka Sat 19-Mar-22 04:36:09

Thanks for getting on board with this, folks. Some amazingly brave people on here; also some crazy things! Lol.

I've thought of a couple of others after reading yours:

Thrown a snowball at a police car, which subsequently stopped and I got a dressing down!

Swam in Lake Taupo (NZ), Lake Garda (Italy) and climbed a mountain (again in NZ).

Pretended to be stinking rich in a Louis Vuitton handbag shop on the Gold Coast, Australia with my daughter. Then we came out and ate ice cream cones on the beach because that's all we could really afford!

Forestflame Fri 18-Mar-22 21:50:13

Whitewater rafting in Canada
Rode an elephant in Nepal
