Has anyone told the cats?

We’re not allowed to let cats out after dark because they kill a lot of native wildlife. Heavy fines if you do . That rule has been in for a long time. In our manicipality they are allowed to roam during daylight hours but some of the neighbouring ones won’t let them go free at all. You have to have a cat run. That’s stalag Australia for you, don’t believe all the stuff about free sun bronzed Aussies.

The concept of “herding cats” also springs to mind.

House cats seems such a sad life , cats are not my favourite, presents in the flower beds puts me off , but keeping cats indoors is like caged chickens to me !

As an adult, I've had 11 cats. My brood went out for 15 years, and then for the last 27 have been house cats. I've never noticed any difference in their demeanor.

I’m not sure my elderly cat does much gardening, Himalayan Balsam or any other plant.

There are already controls for HB. It only spreads through seed dispersal, not root. In some areas teams of people remove the flowering heads before the seeds set.
A bit of a ‘holding back the tide’ exercise.

It’s already restricted in some areas as cats do what cats do which is kill the wildlife. In NE Sydney this rule was already in place at night. I only know about a small part of Australia where retired folk join together in bush regeneration teams. I was part of a group for 9 months during an extended stay. We were getting rid of jasmine, bamboo and smaller plans to give Australian native plants room to thrive.

We need to do something similar here to try to control the huge amounts of Himalayan balsam along with other non native plants.

Good luck with that.

So I’d have to tell my cats to be home by 8 pm or else ? how on earth can they make that work? Don’t they also help with the mice invasion in some parts of Australia also?
