Utility rooms do you have one/would you like one?

I would love one

I’d love a utility room, only got a kitchen, it is large though. Originally it was a very small kitchen and a breakfast room. We knocked it into one. The downsize is everything is in the kitchen.
But we do have a panty, which has a small chest freezer and lots of shelves. I’d hate to loose my pantry.

I have a Utility room, not large, but it has a sink, the slimline dishwasher and a washing machine. There are cupboards under the sink and one tall wall cupboard. Off this is a separate walk in cupboard that houses the brooms, mops, Ironing board and cleaning supplies. There is also a back door which leads to the garden, and another door leading to the garage. I find it quite useful, being able to close the door to the kitchen and shutting out the noise of washer etc. I'd love a laundry room though. I iron in the kitchen diner and have to put washing that can't go outside, into our second (spare) bedroom.

Like others my utility room has the washing machine, tumble drier and fridge freezer in it and a sink. It also has a row of kitchen cupboards where I keep towels and spare pillows. Lots of coat hooks and the recycling bag. I do the irning in there.

Only last month I had the end area of my garage (accessible from hallway) fully converted to a utility area. Love it. Washing machine, tumble dryer, sink unit and wall cupboards. Also fitted in space for the fridge freezer left over from having kitchen done last year. Do bits of hand washing, soaking items for stains in sink. Also great for keeping mess out when doing plant pots and no doubt gardening when the season gets going.

My utility room is the same size as the kitchen but very useful. I have the washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board and fridge-freezer in it, plus two wall cupboards, an under counter cupboard (so useful for laundry requirements and sundries) and a narrow cupboard by the back door. I have a work surface over the washing machine and tumble dryer which is incredibly handy for the washing basket and recycling boxes (one for glass, one for general). It is not a room of beauty but very useful.

We have quite a good sized one with chest freezer, washing machine and plenty of storage. The house is a converted barn and the kitchen is part of the main space. It has underfloor heating so we have to keep the wine rack in the utility too!

Always wanted one and finally remodelled our new home converting the old kitchen into a utility which has freezer, massive larder, washer, dryer, sink and various wall cupboards, there is also a large radiator with an airer in front which dries my washing in the winter. Kitchen is where the conservatory was and is open plan with the dining room and a rear sitting room. I love the semi open plan with an enclosed utility.

We have a sort of utility room. Cupboards for cleaning stuff, ironing board etc. Also space for wellies, gardening gloves, fire wood and coats. So not , I suppose, a real utility room.

Thanks everyone for your comments. As I said the cupboards in our utility room are so useful for storage and keeps the kitchen tidier. We have all our cleaning products out there plus dishes/pans that don't get used that often and plastic boxes for when we bulk cook and put food in the freezer. I would definitely miss it if we ever moved.

No I don't have one but I would like one to separate the washing away from the kitchen.
Have a large kitchen though 18ft long so can't complain

I have tiny one but very useful, has washing machine and tumbler and direct access to sunny garden used for clothes drying. It also has a sink which is invaluable eg if someone had been ill, to deal with DIY or garden chores. I have 4 of those circular peg holders from IKEA which hang down from the ceiling so 'smalls' go on these when hung outdoors or can be quickly brought in and hung indoors if need be to finish off. The gas boiler is there also and other storage for cleaning stuff. Oh and keep onions and bananas there and handy at Christmas for overflow.

We have a utility room which people walk through to use the loo. It is somewhat untidy but it keeps the washing out of the kitchen. Years ago, we moved into a one bedroom flat with our children, we had 5 between us but were desperate. Fortunately it had a small Utility room which we could squeeze bunk beds into. It was a boon. That meant 2 of the children had permanent beds. The other 3 had to have bed settees and it was a bit of a faff at bed time but it was one of the best places we lived together as a family. We had to be scrupulously tidy and organised. We've never managed it since.

I had my kitchen refitted four or five years ago and wanted to get the comings and goings, winter mud, dog feeding etc. out of there so I had the pokey small dining room knocked into the kitchen and a pokey small utility room nipped off the other end. We can still access the garden through the conservatory, which used to open out of the dining room, now part of the kitchen. I love my little utility room.

Yes, we have one but in our house it is called 'the futility room'.

As in, it's futile looking for something in the futility room as it is probably put away underneath something else buried in a deep drawer unit.

No I do not have a utility room. Yes I have always wanted a house with one but pretty sure that will not happen now as not enough money for new house. I have been in a few friends houses and they have a utility room and also downstairs shower room how great. I do have a large kitchen and a downstairs and upstairs loo so not too badly off I suppose
When I worked as a community carer and visited clients homes I was amazed that the only toilet/bathroom people had was outside. You had to exit the back-door into small yard and then go into the toilet, I would not like to do that if I had to use the loo over night.

Loved mine. None in present house, which is too small. I suppose we could convert my sewing room. Nah!

Our garage is a double one so we have freezer , washing machine, tumble drier and an extra small fridge out there. We can access the garage from our hallway so very convenient and we can’t hear the appliances working.
If we ever have to move I wold insist on a utility room or the same arrangement again.

Our utility room is downstairs off the kitchen but I keep the iron and board upstairs in the walk in wardrobe.Makes sense,to me,to iron things and be able to hang them up without trailing them through the house .I wouldn't like a washing machine in the kitchen or appliances as I like my worktops clear

I had always wanted one and when we extended and built on a new kitchen we converted our old kitchen (which was small) into a utility room. We filled it in no time, spare cutlery, glasses, crockery and it also houses, the microwave, washing machine, tumble drier, old dishwasher (great to have at Christmas) and a second fridge freezer. I would be lost without it as we don't like clutter in the kitchen.

Yes, we've got one. But now we're looking to downsize, I'm wondering how we're going to do without it.

Yes, I have one - housing the usual - washing machine, tumble drier, freezer - and there is a sink, where DH can wash his boots and lots of useful cupboards. None of this could fit into my small kitchen. DD has her washing machine in the downstairs toilet!

I think modern builds ought to include a utility room.

Hoping to get one soon. Converting a useless cloakroom ( that’s what my Mum called it ) into laundry/ storage room . Can hardly wait !

I would quite like one, if only so that I can shift my washing machine out of the kitchen and put a dishwasher in it's place!
Would also be handy to have enough room to be able to put an airer up when it's wet . I have an ancient dryer that I only use if absolutely necessary !
