I’m beginning to think it must have been the new neighbours’ cat. I’ve had to shoo it out of the garden (because of the birds) - it does look a bit like a thug with criminal tendencies.

Does it have a shaved head, an earring and a tattoo on its bicep?

We get milk delivered. The dairy suggested we put out an insulated box to stop foxes getting into the bottles.

Big hungry animal I would say. Fox, Badger or neighbours cat.
My dog would smell bacon a mike away.

I would suspect a fox. I often see one trotting along the road here (UK) in the early hours
Last week I put some bread and other kitchen bits in a compost bag in the food waste bin and locked the lid by pushing the handle forward. Something managed to get it open and ate the slightly mouldy bread but left the fruit and veg peelings. I know mould in bins can kill a dog, so hope Mr. Fox was all right.

You don't have wild boar your way do you? Here, in Central Italy they are the worst pests, even knock over and break up the glass/metal rubbish bins.

We have to hang up everything. Even then, one will stand on another boars' back to pull down the rubbish sacks.

Nocturnal wild life feeds at night.Doubt they are fussy what it is.

I have a Ring door bell with camera. I have been surprised as my Milkman delivers just after midnight evidence on the camera.

Put out a container with lid for the milkman to put your food in.

Whatever it was, it will be very thirsty today!

It's magpies who empty bin bags in seconds round here!

Dogs can certainly smell what’s inside vacuum packaging so probably a fox or cat could too. That’s bad luck, no full English today!

A passing, very hungry, drunk?

I hadn’t thought of cats, but that’s certainly a possibility. There’s a new one 2 doors away!
For years we’ve had eggs delivered once a week, not in any extra packaging, and they’ve never been touched.

We’ve never had birds attacking the milk, but that’s maybe because we only have skimmed and semi-skimmed, homogenised, so no cream on top. Dh would like it - especially gold top! - but the mere look of it makes me heave.

That was the reason I stopped having milk delivered, the birds used to peck holes in the tops and help themselves to the cream.

Any spoor nearby?

Wizend Could most likely be a squirrel or fox more than likely the former as a fox would have carried away the packets to take back to his/her family.
Good job you didn't order eggs as they would have enjoyed a nice breakfast at your expense.

I would think foxes or cats the likely culprits! Leave a chill bag on your step for the next time and that should do it.

Passing cats or hedgehogs? We once (many years ago) blamed cats for tearing our bin bags apart, only to catch a hedgehog in the act!

Gosh, rotten luck but very interesting. When I get downstairs, I'm going to sniff test my bacon pack!
