Its free over a certain age.

I renewed my mums when she was 80+ and i remember it being free.

I took my photo at home on my phone, then uploaded it to the application form at the relevant section.
It took several tries before I got one the website accepted though: too many shadows, or couldn't see the whole of my eyes if I had my glasses on.
I ended up upstairs on the landing where the light was better, standing against a white wall and not wearing my glasses.
Got there in the end!

Just need to solve the photograph problem then.

I have literally just done ours online it was so easy and a little cheaper than if you go to the post office. We had our photos done at the local Max Speilman photo shop or you can go to a photo booth and it gives you a code to enter in and your photos just pop up on screen answer a few more simple questions and your card details and it was all done. You can still renew it if you have lost your passport there was a tick box to specify that.

Passports are a good proof of identity as lots of us get the ubiquitous 'utility bill' on line. So worth keeping current.

travelnan my Dad's coming with us to Lanzarote next month. He's 91 ?

Congratulations! I need to renew mine but late DH has put the passports in such a safe place that they will never be seen again so I will have to start from scratch. Is it worth it? I live in hope that it will be.
