Just realised that my post about my mum singing that hymn may have sounded a little odd. Hasten to add that I was not at all disturbed in any way! I think it may have been a missionary hymn.

Aprilrose I've enjoyed listening to these hymns from my childhood but I was especially amazed at the one that came after 'Glad That I Live am I'. I don't know it's title but the earliest memory I have is of my mother singing it to me when I was very small. I think one of the lines in it was about little children overseas that have never heard of their Father in heaven. It was quite emotional for me to unexpectedly hear this and I'm so grateful. Thankyou so much. A very Happy Easter to you Aprilrose

I loved When a Knight won his Spurs. I remember all the words.

“Now back into story land giants have fled,
And the knights are no more and the dragons are dead.”

It seemed so dramatic and romantic.

Hello. I’m searching for the piano sheet music for this (At Easter Time, at Easter Time..) On behalf of my mother so she can play and singalong with her old pal who starts piping this at Easter. So far no luck with the search. If anybody knows where she can find a copy, thanks for letting me know! Happy Easter

There's a book that may have it in here www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1198512824/child-songs-for-the-primary-departments?click_key=c2034bb64bc88cae04143c9e4073ad0c5d33f0bb%3A1198512824&click_sum=bac151c3&ref=shop_home_recs_1&frs=1
You could message them. There is a song called Easter Time listed in the handwritten page photographed Good Luck

At the primary school where I worked in the late '50's onwards we sang At Easter time the lilies fair in the run up to Easter. Another was Spring is a lovely lady. Also Sing a song of Maytime, sing a song of spring. The head mistress used to insist on children and staff kneeling for prayers. The school had the nick name, Kneel and Pray. Eventually this practice came to the notice of the education authority and the kneeling was stopped. Much to the relief of the staff.

I've just listened to all the tunes on that link and I knew most of them! Thanks aprilrose for bringing back some memories.

I taught it in primary school in the 70s. As soon as I saw the title I started singing it! They say songs stay with you well into your dotage. (Not that I'm admitting to that)
Also reminded me of "Down came the raindrops" which had actions as well.

I remember singing it in primary school, thank you, aprilrose.(lovely name)

just heading out but will listen later.

Remember that from primary school, thanks aprilrose. Also, at high school we sang All in the April Evening

Same here, these words and tunes are embedded in the memory, easily recalled now you mention them.

My memories of these hymns are rather dim, but I do remember 'after the sun the rain, after the rain the sun....etc.

However, I remember every single word of a song about a hermit:
Once in a blythe green wood lived a hermit wise and good,
whom the folks from far and near
for his counsel sought, knowing well that what he taught
the dreariest of hearts would cheer.
Though his hair was white, his eye was clear and bright,
and thus was ever wont to say....
'Though to care we are born, yet the dullest of morn
often heralds in the fairest day'.

Sorry, it's not a hymn, it's from 'Singing Together' I think. Goodness knows why I remember every single word from over 60 years ago!

Today we have had lots of snow, luckily it is not lying but it reminded me of another Hymn the children loved,"See how the snowflakes are falling". I found myself singing it around the house.
When a knight won his spurs always makes me sad as I have heard it at funerals.

I remember both of those hymns from Sunday School. Thanks for the memory. Although I'm a bit worried "When a Knight won his Spurs" will be to-day's ear worm

I taught that one to Infants in the '70s and one they loved called"We have a king who rode a donkey".

I taught that song to my infants in school in the 1970s.
Another one I used to teach was the spring song "Little lambs in the fields at play" I still sing it to myself when I see the first lambs in the fields!

I don't think I was a Member for that thread but thank you today for a remembering of a song haven't sung in nearly 60 years! ?

I sang that song at Primary School in the 1950s. I still know all the words.
