Late to the opening party, another comforting kitchen, thank you soop, I’m leaving some cheese straws and pickled onions for nibbling (mouthwash for those socialising later).
DD to hospital today, what is it with my children, fortunately just a bad sprain, Imogen and Fin were here while she was sorted. With them fed and watered Mum’s taxi collected her and dropped them all home, I may be doing the school run early next week.
Now with a glass in hand, dinner on the way, I’ll wish you all a pleasant evening ?

Like kittylester and others I am aware I have been conspicuous by my absence.
For which I humbly apologise.
I have been somewhat disenchanted with other areas of GN and stepping back for a while has confirmed my feeling that much of the site is no longer for me.
However, it is lovely to see the Kitchen going from strength to strength and to enjoy the warmth of your companionship.

JaxJacky ouch!! That looks very sore. I hope your dd recovers quickly..

Good evening lovely Kitcheners !

I still read of all your doings and I could not resist a random visit to see a Gathering of Kindly Folk.... and you're It....so just wanting to make a rare appearance to say hi and wish you all the best. There's a definite breath of Spring whooshing through the Kitchen and along with the baking and lovely warmth from the Aga, I can detect a real whiff of optimism too - such a joy!

I get a lump in my throat when I try to describe how thrilled to bits I am over your successful procedure', soop . Didn't I tell you over and over that you were brave enough - you just HAD to do something - and just look where you are and how you are now. Well done, you. I think we're all so very glad your life has been transformed and you can now make plans and get back to the life that you want and deserve again. Sending a French hug to you and one for Mr Soop for the way he has cared for you and got you back to where you need to be. Slowly does it - it seems as if you're winning at last.

You're worrying about Sweetie Pie, though. I know she's disappeared before and it's always a worry when a cat breaks habits.
But....in all the drama and upheaval, pain and sadness that you've endured over the last many months, I wonder if you've forgotten a few important points about that cheeky cat.
Sweetie Pie is a little chap, not a girl. Not that you care, of course. But a good time ago you did describe the moment you realised your mistake. Do you recall telling us that you had a perfect view of that little chap's gentlemanly bits? He's a Tom cat and as he's entire and has been used to running around and fending for himself, until he met you I suspect his life was very different.

But old habits......and as he's a young chap he has again undoubtedly gone off a'courting. It's that time of year. I recall he turned up at your home one time with a girlie friend. He's always going to run off and try to find girl friends and he's not going to come home again until he's tired of playing man about town and his lady friends are bored with him. Sadly, that means that he probably won't ever settle and call the lovely Soops his full-time home. It will also explain why he gets very thin when he stays away - with all that clubbing and nights on the town it's likely he has very little to eat. He's also at risk of getting into fights over girls and territory.

Maybe when he comes back again, if you're feeling more like your old self and sound in wind and limb, it would be a good idea to borrow a cage/trap and let him eat from a dish in that for a while. Then when he's settled and you're ready, you can set the spring and he'll be safely inside and off to the Vet for The Big Snip. You'll then have your forever cat and not be worried about his absences or his safety. Just an idea!

This part of the South of France today has been a bit of a challenge, weatherwise. I'm sitting by the fire, the wind is roaring down the chimney and around the house. It's been like that for 3 days now and with 80kph gusts I'm rather tired of it.
The cold in the gales is incredible, although the sun is out and the skies are blue. Birds are having to be kamikaze types to get from hedge to tree and we actually struggled to stay upright when out with the dogs earlier. Hoping for some calm in another 24 hours or so and looking forward to the promised 20 degrees on Friday.

Must just say that it's lovely to see all the familiar faces. Hope you're feeling much brighter and have got your mo-jo back, Grandmabatty. I expect that little boy and his antics are a help. Remember - don't worry about things you can't change. It's a waste of energy and life. Lovely to see Ruby in the Kitchen, Tilly, and hope you're well. How's the surgery wait, Yia? Are you getting nearer? You could probably use a nice plump cat as lagging for your back this weather, Charley. I'm longing to read the post when you tell us you have another at home. Sorry to hear of your health worries, Hellogirl but it sounds if, at last, you are getting somewhere. Lovely to see you Muse, hoping that Spring is coming to Cornwall very soon now. Hope you're well Brook - and still offering that listening ear to your DD. ? Not seen any sign of Ann for a while - hoping she's fit and well and making every use of her new legs. Pants you're in the Kitchen cos I bet you've run out of tea. I think there's always a good selection but you'd be wise to bring your own chamberpot. All the chatter makes for a very dry throat. GG I know you've had the lurgy - do hope you're 100% better now. That is an awful ankle swelling Jax - thank the Lord for Mum's Emergency Rescue Service.

To everyone in the Kitchen, old and new peoples, wishing you well and this year, hopefully, some time away to reset after the horrors of the last couple of years. We owe it to ourselves to have a good time - not just here in the Kitchen.
Can't go without saying that your Tim, soop doesn't get any less handsome, does he? And he gets more and more like his Mum every day - I can't be the only one who has said that to you.

Take care all of you 'kindly folk', please keep well and be happy.
(And forgive the lengthy post, but as I don't bother you very often, maybe you'll overlook it this time.

Hugs from France and from me ????‍♀️

TillyTrotter Sat 02-Apr-22 20:28:14

Grandmafrench you have not forgotten us ?
Lovely to have you post in the new kitchen,
I have missed you.
BTW ….. (in a whisper) please don’t mention boy cats’ manly bits as I will have to cover Ruby’s ears - she has no knowledge of such things! ?‍⬛
I hope you and your family, cats and dogs are well and I’m sorry you are under siege from cold gales.
We borrowed your early warm weather a couple of weeks ago but it left, and I thought it had returned to you at least 5 days ago.
Hugs from me and Ruby ? ?

Beechnut Sat 02-Apr-22 20:42:19

Pittcity now that’s an idea . If it’s calorie free cakes in the kitchen then perhaps it’s no charge heating too.
Grannygravy nice to see you too. Hope you’re doing ok.
Charleygirl any chance you may have another feline friend sometime? You obviously love cats so much. My DGD is going to volunteer to work in a cats cafe so she can indulge her love of cats. She can’t have one where she lives.
Suedonim very tasty and thank you. Nothing like a good tray bake. ?
Urms you not here yet. That unlike you. I’ll open a bottle and wait to see if you pop in. Cheers ?

Wot a luvly bunch of cocoa nans...?

Grandmafrench Sat 02-Apr-22 21:20:52

Hello Beechnut good to see you. Doodle I always just miss you and then you pop up like a Good Fairy, usually making me laugh. Hope you’re fairly fit and keeping dear Mr D away from stairs! ?
Yes, a French hug is an extra big hug now since kisses are still off limits. I’m sending one over to you with a smile and a cheery wave. I shall watch out for your news. x

Millie22 Sat 02-Apr-22 21:28:20

Hello everyone. I'm just an occasional visitor to the kitchen but love reading all your news. It's all getting a bit unpleasant on some of the other threads so this is a lot more friendly.

Grandmabatty Sat 02-Apr-22 21:28:31

Well that just cheered me up no end. A novel ? from Grandmafrench. I have missed you. I hope french France clears up soon and the howling wind returns to where it came from. Gavascon helps. It's very good to hear from you. ❤️ Here's to the auld alliance ?????????

Grandmabatty Sat 02-Apr-22 21:29:31

Ahem. That should have been the French flag. I'm sidling out of the kitchen now.

Blossoming Sat 02-Apr-22 21:34:14

What a lovely crowd in the kitchen tonight! A kitchen-warming party and a celebration of our warm and kindly place, a welcome and a hug for everyone. Urmstongran I hope you’re not missing this cheery bunch, I’m thinking of cracking open a bottle of Sangiovese to celebrate! Bottoms up ladies grin

Blossoming Sat 02-Apr-22 21:37:28

I forgot to say hello GrandmaFrench!

Doodle it is indeed the hayfever pest so it’s another daily tablet to add to the pile for a few weeks!

Urmstongran Sat 02-Apr-22 21:39:03

‘Evening All’

I’ve just made a mug of Horlicks (sadly it has to be a treat these days, no longer allowed to be a regular occurrence for this fatty). Pour that wine back into the bottle Doodle I hate to see good stuff go to waste.

Well, well what a lovely cosy kitchen tonight and so busy too! A real delight. And returnees in here - how absolutely wonderful. Your kitchen is a real place of comfort soop I know how happy it makes us all to be able to come in, relax, take time out from anxieties and just be. Thank you for caring about us all. No wonder you’re one very popular lady.
x

Urmstongran Sat 02-Apr-22 21:41:57

X posts with you Blossoming! ??

Ali23 Sat 02-Apr-22 21:56:48

Hi to everyone in the kitchen ? especially Soop. Thanks for inviting me in. I visit often but stay near the door, listening to the friendly chatter. I made popcorn in the microwave this afternoon, so please help yourselves.
Xx

Charleygirl5 Sat 02-Apr-22 22:09:23

Doodle and Grandmafrench It is 14 months since Tara left this world but reluctantly I have decided not to get another cat although there is a local cattery that is advertised online daily so I see gorgeous cats there being reserved and hopefully going to a good home.

I am 78, live on my own and if I was hospitalised as an emergency there is nobody to care for and feed the animal.

The cat would probably outlive me and go to a second home which it may not like having been cared for like a prince or princess here.

If one walked through the catflap in need of a home and food that would be different.

Shelflife Sat 02-Apr-22 22:10:15

Hi everyone , haven't popped in before . Just thought I would step into soops welcoming kitchen for a coffee and cake. So happy Soop that you are recovering well , you have so many friends in your kitchen wishing you well.

GrannySomerset Sat 02-Apr-22 22:17:13

What a cheerful kitchen tonight! Still hoping that Sweetie puts in an appearance but male cats are a law unto themselves.

Second day of feeling rough and have tested positive this evening so will keep myself to myself for at least five days and hope I don’t get worse. My booster will be delayed but it can’t be helped.

Charleygirl5 Sat 02-Apr-22 22:18:46

Welcome Shelflife we are not a bad bunch even though I say it myself!

Like many others, I have been around for a good few years and do not plan to go anywhere else.

Shelflife Sat 02-Apr-22 22:25:19

Thankyou Charleygirl, coffee was good . Will call again .

Grandmafrench Sun 03-Apr-22 00:53:04

Oh Batty you’re so funny. Thanks for the Gaviscon hint, I’ll use it if wind still roaring tomorrow. It is tomorrow - what a fabulous Saturday evening I’ve had. My most elderly cat was shouting as I set off for bed so I decided to glaze a piece of painted furniture - as you do at midnight. Cat went to sleep, I went to bed and saw on our camera DH’s car wasn’t locked - so back to the front door for key to find dog had been sick. Perfect! It’s clearly a plot! So, gloves and kitchen roll and disinfectant. A right palaver and then unarmed combat (I won) to give him medicine. Now I’m truly shattered and am taking a moment here.

GrannyS. How miserable. Please do rest and do nothing - and get well very soon. I’ve just got over a virus (not The Virus but bad enough!) It knocks you silly. Pants you and that pilot need to look at the sky in front and not down at my laundry! And Urms, calling yourself a fatty is not very kind. You’ll only go into a sulk and need a Mars Bar! Be kind - you’ll soon be skinny.
You’re a very sensible lady, Charley but no cat will outlive you. Bet you’re only saying that in case you get stuck with the dishes in the Kitchen (again?).
Bowled over to see all the peeps in the Kitchen - but I forgot how famous the lovely Kitchen lady is now.

Good weekend to all…….?

Grandmabatty Sun 03-Apr-22 01:03:37

Grandmafrench better finding the dog had been sick now rather than putting your foot in it in the morning ?. Bon nuit mes amis.
