Trying for the second time

For the last few months, I have been a " lurker" - this because after the first and only post so far, the aftermath left such an incredible reaction. Briefly, I posted that we had loaned some equipment over Christmas. Some of the responses were so vehement, bordering on vitriolic {one contributor wrote "what kind of gullible idiot are you anyway"} - breath-taking, that is it only now I have the courage to post again. Have to add though, that that particular post apparently breached the guidelines of GN and it was removed, but of course the damage was done. So.....trying again in the hope that this might elicit a more positive response. sunshine

Why hide Cornflower everyone’s opinion is perfectly valid
and we are all entitled to express them

Callistemon21 Sat 02-Apr-22 17:09:10

No, this one was about the loan of equipment JaneJudge

I think the jury was out about gifts.

Perhaps it will be third time lucky CountessFosco!!

Welcome back. I had my head bitten off a few days ago but the poster had the grace to apologise.

I stick with threads that really interest me and I feel I can make a meaningful contribution.

There are some really pleasant people on GN, I know because I meet two groups for coffee/lunch separately each month.

Perhaps you could do that in your area?

There endeth the lesson!

... but it's not about others agreeing with you or having a different opinion, is it? I have also been put off by replying to threads because there are a few who are unnecessarily harsh or just downright unkind. We should all remember that there are many people whose mental health isn't great , for many reasons and they come on here for friendship, connection in maybe a lonely life, support or whatever, and it wouldnt take much to push them to depression, so why can't people just be kind even when they don't agree with someone? How difficult can it be? Sorry, I've said my bit, now I shall hide!

You don't need to hide and the retuned poster should stay on.
Sometimes you don't get the reply you are hoping for but that helps you make a judgment.
I miss read posts and get into deep water and usually some one kind agrees with me or better still points me in the right direction.
Which makes me think someone who usually posts most days has been missing for quite a few days. I will not name her yet and see if she is just on holiday or has caught the dreaded Covid. She is usually hot on legal matters.

Do you now feel suitably empowered to talk about what you wanted to?

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 02-Apr-22 18:36:52

Do you mean me Yammy? I had my lovely dog pts last Tuesday and haven’t felt like posting since then, nothing to give unless someone is in need but I do read each day. If not me, forgive me for being presumptuous. If me, thank you for noticing.

It was you. I am so sorry,my friend has had exactly the same on Sunday, her poor dog couldn't manage his daily morning walk.
I am so sorry for you it really is a knock, they have decided to have a few days away can't stand the empty house.
Take care and know you were missed.flowers

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 02-Apr-22 19:33:35

Thanks so much Yammy. Your friend’s situation sounds very similar. The house is so empty and quiet and the old familiar routines are gone. I hope your friend is able to find some comfort in knowing she did the right thing, hard though it is.

I just back off when the heavy mob move in. It's always the same few people and they're immediately recogniseable.

She is talking about what she wants to and has raised a good debate.

this because after the first and only post so far, the aftermath left such an incredible reaction

But - it wasn't your only post or thread you started.

I did notice that after the first thread you started?, a lot of posts were by posters whose names seemed unfamiliar. Perhaps they were lurkers too and felt the need to post in response.

Do give GN another try.

Oh I am sorry GSM.

Chewbacca Sat 02-Apr-22 20:49:20

I'm glad you've decided to try again CountessFosco and hope that you find GN a great deal more welcoming, and less combative than your first attempt in 2020. Please be reassured that some of the posters who gave you a particularly hard time, and a poor impression of the GN community, were banned not long after and so won't be around to spoil things for you this time around.

Yes I agree. I'm sure GNHQ also realise who these women are but seem to let them carry on with impunity.

Apologies Germanshepherdsmum. Shouldn't have intervened crassly like that. I hope you are OK. So sorry about your dog.

GSM, I'm sorry to hear your sad news, you must be devastated. I did notice you were not posting. ?
I hope you feel able to post again soon.
