I shall have no problem using my existing stamps up over the next 10 months.

I shall use my existing by then, mostly next Christmas.

This explains the reason for barcoded stamps for those who need a simple explanation of why they have been introduced like me?

They just seem to be an unnecessary addition to stamps.

Special barcodes are being added to stamps by the Royal Mail in order to make it possible for people to watch videos and send birthday messages.

Post costs have gone up today. First class is now 95p. I assume I can still use the stamps I still have in my purse?

Yes, if they are just marked first or second class, you can use them until next January.

We're paying extra for saying Happy Birthday or watching Shaun the Sheep!

I did re-check the news link to make sure it wasn't 1st April, but no.

For many years I ran an office from home. Used to keep a good supply of various denominations of stamps, plus a postal scale and would be able to post anything quite correctly and happily. Around twelve years since that office close, but I still have my book with various stamps eg 1p, 2p, 10p, 20p etc. etc.

I know that as from the end of January 2023 I will no longer be able to use these, so added them all up and it came to nearly fifty pounds worth!!!

Downloaded the Royal Mail claim form and am returning these. The few first and second class stamps I have will be used by me before the end of this year. Will not purchase any more of these without the new barcode.

I believe £20 notes will also become redundant this October ?
