When do you feel most at peace?

This was the subject line of an email I received from 'Family Search'.
It got me wondering/pondering and I still don't have an answer.

Are there any particular havens for Gransnetters, or maybe times, if not places?

When holding a sleeping grandchild in my arms - brings me to tears of sheer happiness and such an overwhelming sense of love and serenity …

When we retired 8 years ago we sold up and bought our ‘retirement’ bungalow. I feel most at peace when I’m in my home, pottering in the kitchen, watching tv in the lounge or sitting in the snug surrounded by books and craft supplies. Also, when the weather allows, pottering in the garden. Bliss!

I shán't until such time as I have a new cat curled up on my lap asleep.

Strange as it may seem, I feel peaceful on a train journey or coach journey. I love the feeling of movement without being responsible for it and it feels like time taken out of everyday life; I forget everything.

Walking my dog along the seafront listening to the water lapping.

I don’t think I’ve been at peace in 16 years…. not even at 2 in morning…. my husband woke me this morning to ask where the dog was …. I told him “dead these 25 years”…
Then I have to say say …how…when…where…. some sort of madness invades my waking day and my sleepless nights!! No peace here!

I'm so sorry to hear this Saggi.
I hope it wasn't an intensive thread for you.

In the garden when it’s sunny and warm, listening to or watching the birds and all with a lovely cold glass of white wine.

We had a small patio area installed a couple of years ago with some nice Mediterranean style tiles. I am no gardener but I have put up hanging baskets and planted other flowers in pots. Sitting on my garden chair (winawood in a lovely duck egg colour) with my book when the weather is sunny gives me peace. Wish I had taken more notice of my mum on the subject of gardening though! She was really good. We have another area of lawn and a couple of flower beds with a fire bushes, but the patio area gives me a peaceful feeling.

In my greenhouse breathing in the earthy smells and watch new seedlings grow day by day. Walking around the garden inspecting new growth. This morning the red shoots of my pink peony had popped through the soil.

Near the sea or in the quiet countryside listening to the birds.

When I’ve done everything I need to do or after a nice relaxing poo! Or are they the same thing?

Looking out to sea brings me peace and tranquility. I long for a visit to the coast soon, even for just a day trip.

lixy

In the company of my GS1.
Ever since he was a tiny baby he has been an oasis of calm for me, even in the midst of prepping for the dreaded Ofsted. He's 12 now and we are still 'in tune'.
I'm fortunate to feel at peace a lot of the time, but he is something very special.

That's really lovely we're bringing our grandson up we've had him since he was 4mnths old he's now 14yrs and I feel the same xx

In my garden, on a seat with a book, Spring, summer and autumn. Can't read indoors in the evenings as I am married to a part vampire who can't bear bright light!

i don't think i have felt at peace for a long time, my partner died last year just after i found out i had cancer again, due to the lockdown rules at the hospital i had to see him a few days before and say my goodbyes. the once place i always felt at peace was going to glencoe with my brother, it was always a spur of the moment thing, i loved it there but sadly over the last two years things have changed for both of us.

When my 4 offspring are home for the night. That's when I relax and feel most at peace.

When I know no visitor and no parcels are expected and I can safely ignore the door or what goes on outside and listen to loud music while I get on with my work.

Caleo Tue 12-Apr-22 11:58:14

Under the duvet cuddling my dog before going to sleep.

Rosiebee Tue 12-Apr-22 17:40:03

Before I developed Tinnitus, I would have always said- being in bed with DH, reading our books or just talking. I think I read that someone called it "The deep peace of the marital bed." Now I find some peace from the constant ringing when I go swimming. But bed with DH is still my favourite place to be.

Listening to (classical) music, which I can do virtually anywhere.
