Remember that chap who lived in a tunnel and up a tree for ages? Swampy? Yeah, he was working/available for work all right. The majority of them cannot possibly be working people.

We have also used holiday leave to protest coastpath and also to do other things to (we hope) benefit wider society.

GSM perhaps people are working shifts or flexibly. When I have been on rallies and protests over the years I have taken holiday leave to do so when the causes have been important to me.

I understand what you are saying about blocking emergency vehicles but there is also the bigger picture to consider. The climate crisis will cause significant, widespread health problems.

I totally get that, I just disagree with the way some activists are going about it.

I have mentioned previously the time that XR dug up a beautiful Cambridge college lawn, full of crocuses in spring, which gave pleasure to everyone who walked past it, whilst other members were blocking roads and access to garages there. Sheer wanton vandalism.

I said crimes against the state/us because the effect they are having is drastically hindering the public from working/living etc. It is affecting people like my daughter who is an occupational therapist working in a hospital with stroke patients and trying to get them released back to their homes. She had to take 2 hours yesterday trying to find a garage with supplies so she could get to work.

My 8 year old grandson is so distressed at the moment. His school stupidly give news updates in class and he is beyond scared he is going to be killed by a nuclear bomb.
I think we all need a nice summer so we can gather strength to keep on going, not another time of demonstrations and disruption on our roads. Perhaps if you live in an area where you are not affected by them then good luck to you.

My husband was a property developer and I believe what he tells me about the hopelessness of trying to effectively insulate many old houses Daisyanne. There’s only so much you can do to many of them, at considerable expense, and it won’t make the big energy savings that XR claim. Insulation standards for new builds are already extremely high - we live in one (6 years old) and the insulation and consequent warmth are brilliant.

That is sad. I would like to think people would not have to continue in cold, damp houses. It would, at least, save them money and therefore mean they could live better overall.

Would it be cheaper, in the long run, to rebuild? I have seen articles about Nordic Houses that cost next to nothing to run. An investment in that sort of housing might be worthwhile.

How is it that they’re all able to do this on working days then? Some may be students on holiday at the moment but these protests happen during term as well.

Thank you Franbern, Coastpath, NotSpaghetti, DaisyAnne - I was trying to compose a civilised reply to the the OP and supporters but feared for my blood pressure. I will just add that a group blocking a bridge was shown moving aside to let a blue-lighted ambulance through.

Be a lot more disruption as sea levels continue to rise and so many places will end up under water.

Insulation regulations for new build are non-existing in this country now that builders no longer have to follow European standards. Built in obsolescence!!!

I am so grateful that there are people out there willing to ive up their time, and risk being arrested in order to try to keep this up and coming problem for our planet and for all of us, to the fore.

Certainly all new houses should have a certain standard of insulation but as others have said, with the different building styles throughout the centurys it would be nigh on impossible to guarantee that it was possible for every house to be done.
I can't see the point of causing chaos for everyone else like this group seems to do - their actions just annoy people and I think that already people are getting really bored with them if it means that it disrupts their everyday life.

Thank you we are in sunny Torquay for Easter we are coming early on Thursday and staying in Portishead Thursdsy night trying to avoid the M5 crush on Friday. Hope to top up there before continuing Friday we can't quite make the return on a full tank

Well they are certainly making the fuel pumps busy just queued up to top up with diesel on a Monday morning at 10.15 usually very quiet. Only needed just over a quarter of a tank but we are going to the West Country Thursday just hope we can fill up again down there or we could get a bit short.

The only two people I know personally who've been arrested at XR events are GPs.

We don't know anything about the personal lives of these people and personal attacks based on an absence of knowledge seem unfair. Criticise their actions by all means but don't fall into the trap of making false assumptions.

I’d like them all to be arrested for crimes against the state ie us. Crimes against the state? Jeepers!

If they're GPs then they should know better than to encourage actions that lead to emergency vehicles being obstructed.

Interesting, coastpath the 2 people I know are professionals too, an architect and a surveyor.

Furthermore, I also know some "jobless" people who are NOT the other things. My husband, for example, is jobless now as he's taken an early retirement from academia.
My daughter is "jobless" as she's having time at home with her little one.
