Where are the grandads on Gransnet?

I have been an observing member for some time and rarely post, although I find many of the discussions interesting.

I have always been curious as to how few men seem to be on here. Maybe they are observing from afar too? wink

I have seen a very small number of posts from grandads and would love to know how they figure in proportion to the ladies. My guess is no more than 15% of total members. Does anybody know the figures?

Oh Rameses, you don't sound at all like your namesake. I'm afraid that name has been firmly in my head since childhood. ?

'Goodness gracious me' as Peter Sellers once sang, that is one of my best photoshots!! wink

Sounds much more cuddly than that doesn’t he!

It’s nice to know a bit about you. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to your posts.

Just a thank you to everyone who has posted on this thread and added their contribution. It has been interesting and enlightening for me. One post suggested 5% male and 95% female. I find that unsurprising but a tad disappointing, although I did suggest 15% male in my OP.

I suppose I am at a slight advantage in that I have always been "into" IT and have used a keyboard for more years than I care to remember. Also 'Gransnet' does rather suggest a female demain and, in my view, if that is what is actually intended, it should be made clear in the "all are welcome" introduction.

I shall continue to loiter and observe and interject as and when I feel like it or feel it to be appropriate.

For the record, I have been male all my life (can I say that nowadays?confused), 73 years old with two daughters in their late thirties and one grandson who is just 16 months old.

Wasn’t there a male poster some time back called GandT ?

Sad that Atqui felt she had to have her harmless thread deleted. It won’t encourage contribution to the site.

I agree !
I enjoyed that thread .

Anyone else remember Frank, and his dog, way back at the beginning of GN? And his lovely stories about the bums and tums class he used to go to !

BlueSky Wed 13-Apr-22 18:26:09

Yes Germanshepperd we could all portray to be women when we are in fact men! grin

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 13-Apr-22 18:15:05

I just like to know if I'm talking to or reading views of a man or a woman. Doubtless IABU.

I remember Grandad1943, he posted a lot on the Politics thread. He was pretty definite in his views but I grew to like him. I wondered what had happened to him and had no idea he had been banned! Wonder what for as I quite missed him.

Oh, I assumed he had left because he got fed up with our supposed misandry.

We're not at all, Rameses!
Some of us even like men ?

(And on one memorable occasion - his cruet set…)

Full frontal?

Callistemon21 Wed 13-Apr-22 16:46:59

and a most masculine name
Didn't he father over 100 children Esspee?

I don’t mind if users names reflect their sex or not, makes no difference to what I say.
I miss Rufus we had good chats about football as well as other topics, I’ll think of him if MC win the cup.
I remember Spangler posted some lovely pictures, one in particular at the Montague Arms in the New Forest, an old haunt of mine.

Yes still missing Rufus as I’ve got family in Oz, so a sort of connection. Sadly like other social sites like fb, you get used to virtual friends and miss them like real life ones. sad

I had assumed that Rameses was a woman so was a bit shocked to discover otherwise. Yes I know, I shouldn’t be but I would prefer that men had obviously male usernames.

Rameses is the name of a very famous line of kings and a most masculine name.
I therefore can’t imagine why anyone would be shocked to discover he was a man. My user name doesn’t indicate my sex, just my lack of imagination.
I wish there were more men posting on here, it would add a bit of balance to Gransnet.
Welcome Ramses, begotten of Ra. Hope you are Ramses the second.

Rameses This is where the grandads are!

They are all women on there apart from op.

I think that the general consensus is that Rufus sadly died towards the middle of last year.
He was in his 90s and in poor health. There were a couple of threads about him.
I know at least one regular poster was in regular contact with him.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 13-Apr-22 10:41:00

Yes Rameses is a male name but it's not immediately obvious (or not to me at least) in the way that a commonplace male name would be. You don't exactly come across it every day. I hadn't detected that he was a man from the few posts I'd read.
