Bread

Bread is now on BritBox.

I discovered it recently on, I think, the Drama channel.
It was on a Freeview channel, that's for sure!

I loved Butterflies, although it wasn't a laugh-out-loud sitcom.

Ever Decreasing Circles was brilliant (and yes, Peter Egan is still gorgeous!).

I also liked Chef! with Lenny Henry and I'd love to see that one again.

I don't know whether Northern Exposure qualified as being a sit com but I absolutely loved that programme. The music they played in each episode was so varied and eclectic that I bought the CD and still play it 30 years later.

I liked lots of sit coms, but my absolute corker of a favourite was Love The Neighbour. It would never be allowed now, which is a pity. I also vaguely remember one that was taken off after only a couple of shows because it was deemed unfit for viewing, but I thought it was really funny. It was called The Wackers, I think Ken Jones was in it.

Golden Girls. smile

I avoided Dad’s Army for ages, sure that I wouldn’t enjoy anything with the word army in it. One day I tried it, and discovered that it was really very funny observations of human nature - as all good comedies are.

I’d forgotten Ab Fab and Jam and Jerusalem. And Dinner Ladies.

Loved anything by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais - The Likely Lads, Porridge, Auf Wiedersehen pet. My other favourite was Only Fools and Horses. All these by very witty writers.

Ever Decreasing Circles was sublime with Richard Briers and Penelope Wilton.

The Good Life
Yes Minister/Prime Minister

Porridge was the best ever for me, closely followed by Yes Minister and The Good Life. The Vicar of Dibley always raised a chuckle too.
On the radio we have been enjoying Conversations from a Long Marriage recently.

Faulty Towers
Absolutely Fabulous
My Family
were firm favourites, I find very little funny these day either on the TV or radio, which is a bit sad!

BBbevan Fri 15-Apr-22 16:55:16

Katie my DD always calls DH and me Howard and Hilda. Or and there was a program on years ago when the girl always said ‘Carter darling’. I think it had Liz Smith in it. Sorry can’t remember the name .

Vintagejazz Fri 15-Apr-22 16:51:32

I think Dinner Ladies is one of the best comedies ever. Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads is also brilliant and a great capturing of the early 70s and the expansion of the middle classes. Bob's children would probably have been the first in the family to go to University and, ironically, aspired towards an old house in a cobbled back street over the new built semi that spelt success for Bob.

Kate1949 Fri 15-Apr-22 16:28:43

Yes definitely Howard and Hilda. We are watching the repeats at the moment. It's very funny.
I agree re Hi De Hi, Just Good Friends and Only Fools.

Bridie22 Fri 15-Apr-22 16:28:22

The Royle Family.
Fawlty Towers.
One foot in the grave.
Absolutely Fabulous

MissAdventure Fri 15-Apr-22 16:27:31

Ooh, Sorry was good, too. smile

MissAdventure Fri 15-Apr-22 16:16:04

The Royle Family.
Father Ted.

Ailidh Fri 15-Apr-22 16:14:47

Oo, yes to Everdecreasing Circles. Also The Brittas Empire.

Always struck me that the "funny people" at the centre of them and Appearances were really unhappy characters.....
