Has anyone else been on Mumsnet today? The lay-out of it has been totally changed and not for the better imo. I really hope they don’t do the same here on Gransnet.

Yes I have, the 'mums' are not happy!
I don't mind the changes at all

grannydarkhair Wed 20-Apr-22 22:32:03

I really don’t like it, but I suppose after a wee while it’ll feel like it’s always been that way.

BlueSky Wed 20-Apr-22 23:01:38

Yes I noticed it looks strange as we don’t like change, but I guess we’ll soon get used to it. Probably will ‘update’ the look on GN too.

It looks like a 1996 interface; clunky and rather amateurish; it looks very reminiscent of that old chat site forum for the over 50s. And the ads are huge now; completely dissecting the pages, making it so that you have to scroll down a long way to get to the next post. I can't see how it's meant to be an improvement tbh.

hate it. and disappointed to read here that it was not something i had done trying use my new machine correctly.
not sure i will bother much in future.
it is clunky. hard to navigate.
but guess i'm not the target audience anyway, so what do they care.
i rarely buy anything beyond basic supplies. and only do that fortnightly to limit spending. the savings are going down...

welbeck Thu 21-Apr-22 01:52:17

so annoying that i can now only read a thin strip in the middle of the page, only 4 lines at a time for me, so have to keep clicking to move it down. very laborious and straining.
feels like peering in someone's window with blinds drawn.
the top third of the page is taken up with adverts, and the bottom third with the broad blue band of active/watching etc.
so it adds to hand strain, and eye strain, to have to keep clicking to read the next lines. lose continuity.
then one false move and it all whizzes past to somewhere else.

I don't like it and would not post there. Certain newspapers seem to plunder it regularly for stories. I think it's a risk that you could be identified, if you are too descriptive in your posts. I won't be back on Mumsnet, the new layout is horrible.

BlueBalou Thu 21-Apr-22 06:41:16

I don’t like the new format at all, three quarters of the page is adverts ?
I hope GN isn’t next!

glammanana Thu 21-Apr-22 10:19:35

I just don't like it far to clunky not able to choose last 50 or last hour posts,I don't think I shall bother with it much from now on.

HowVeryDareYou Thu 21-Apr-22 11:09:29

I saw that. I don't like the new layout and probably won't bother to use Mumsnet again.

Antonia Thu 21-Apr-22 11:12:59

I don't mind the new look on Mumsnet, and I do think some of the reactions have been very over the top. (It gives me headache, it makes my eyes swim etc).

BlueSky Thu 21-Apr-22 12:10:59

I do like MN old or new version, despite the fact I’m easily old enough to be mother to most of the posters. I’ve never found them as aggressive as portrayed, at least not on the threads I’ve been.

FarNorth Thu 21-Apr-22 12:23:22

confused
I'm not seeing any great change. Just a different look to the posts but no obstruction of the screen.
Surely I'm not the only one?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 21-Apr-22 17:06:52

It's complete and utter tosh. Either a new broom swept clean or it was felt that a change was required - note to the powers that be - it is merely a change not an improvement.

I can't post either as it asks me to provide an email address with which I obliged only to be told the email address is already taken of course it is, by me! So it's goodbye Mumsnet - I'll offer my pearls of wisdom to the proper grown-ups on GN - if they don't arse that up as well.

Cherrytree59 Thu 21-Apr-22 18:14:54

I hope it is not trial run for Gransnet.
Very poorly laid out .
At this moment in time, I would say that new does not equate to better .
hmm

AreWeThereYet Thu 21-Apr-22 18:27:05

The look of the page may be different depending on the device you are using, and possibly even your browser. And those using ad blockers will see something different again!

JackyB Fri 22-Apr-22 07:32:35

The techies never do anything to change Gransnet. Not when we ask, anyway. This sounds just like the annoying sort of change they are likely to make. Probably low on funds and need more advertising revenue. Shooting themselves in the foot if people start staying away be wise of the user-unfriendliness of the new look.

Lucca Fri 22-Apr-22 07:37:37

Maybe we should do a preemptive strike and all e mail gnhq requesting they do not change the layout ? Well those who use mumsnet anyway. I don’t.

mokryna Fri 22-Apr-22 16:50:05

And they don’t a deleted conversation, even though the language is a lot worse than on here.

mokryna Fri 22-Apr-22 16:51:05

don’t get a conversation deleted

Hymnbook Fri 22-Apr-22 17:30:52

The saying goes "if it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm on another site called Restless I've noticed ads popping up on there to. Unnecessary.

BlueSky Fri 22-Apr-22 17:46:13

Well said Mokryna! wink

grannydarkhair Fri 22-Apr-22 17:58:04

mokryna Both individual posts and whole threads do get removed on Mumsnet when necessary, admittedly not for swearing.

Galaxy Fri 22-Apr-22 19:03:02

Because swearing isnt against the rules on MN. They could try implementing that on MN if they wanted a real rebellion.
