I am 70. chronically but not mentally. If anyone calls me elderly I will spit, shout and swear (boy can I swear) I weigh 8 stone 12lbs. Wear jeans, crocs, and trainers. I trim my own hedge, paint my own house, drink wine by the bucketful. I drive long distances and listen to rock music. Love horror films, the gorier the better. Laughed my way through Friday 13th. I thought elderly people wore twin sets and pearls (I would rather die!) or have blue rinses. My hair is brown, totally natural and never been died. I want to travel the world, write a book and have abundant sex. So as said fxck off anyone who dares call my elderly!!!!

Ooh so do I Monica... I've not long joined and was beginning to think it wasn't for me..... This thread has made me laugh....

I am sure this is a fake, but at least it is a fake we have had a lot of fun with, and if the purpose of the fake was based on the assumption that in LadyGaGa's glorious words I’ve never heard of such a thing! I almost dropped a stitch and had to change my bloomers! would be the general response then they will be sorely disappointed.

I wish we could have more threads like this GN!

Deffo a fake. But they got us going, didn’t they ? I’m off to chuck some more crocs out. There’s one in the pool but he looks a bit dangerous.

Stop Press. 70 Year Old Woman Wears Jeans
Elderly people on the Gransnet forum were agog when a woman announced she wears jeans and listens to rock music. One member (who wishes to remain anonymous) was quoted as saying ‘I’ve never heard of such a thing! I almost dropped a stitch and had to change my bloomers!’

Isn't granbells G fish a mouthful for them to say everytime??And i would never wear crocs or pearls. Not even when i do get old(er)?....I'm suspecting this one's made up...for dramatic effect...?

kissngate Tue 03-May-22 12:31:47

The 'mumbells and grandbells' I get but what's the 'G Fish' all about.?

If the poster is for real she should be giving thanks every day that she has reached 70 with no illness, no mobility issues and good eyesight to drive long distances.

I'm quite happy being elderly and try to avoid looking like 'mutton dressed as lamb'. A top tip for some?

Elizabeth27 Tue 03-May-22 11:36:50

What has weight got to do with anything? Do the elderly, which you are, weigh less or more than younger people

AGAA4 Tue 03-May-22 11:18:04

I quite like being elderly. It is very different today than it was when I was a child when people acted old.
I think today we carry on doing what we have always done (health allowing) and don't consider ourselves past it.

henetha Tue 03-May-22 10:49:16

I don't mind being considered elderly, because I am.
I'm quite pleased to have lived long enough to be elderly.

Kate1949 Tue 03-May-22 10:45:29

Yes MissA That 'I'm 92 years young' is also annoying. Also, people in shops etc who say 'How can I help you young lady?' when I'm obviously not. How patronising. I'm old, not daft.

Chestnut Tue 03-May-22 10:38:39

I am happy to be thought of as elderly when the grandchildren want me to do something that is too much for me. 'I can't do that darling, I'm tooo owld!' Then they are very understanding and let me off.

I find it annoying when older people say things like 'I'm 75 but young at heart'. Or 'I don't feel like an old person'. I feel like shouting 'None of us do!'

Exactly! So irritating.

MissAdventure Tue 03-May-22 10:24:42

Me too, and today is a good day.
Mind you, I look about 104.

Callistemon21 Tue 03-May-22 10:22:49

I feel 92 this morning

MissAdventure Tue 03-May-22 10:17:03

Or, "I'm 92 years young".

Callistemon21 Tue 03-May-22 10:15:20

Just a wee bit concerned about trimming a hedge if it is a euphemism......a hedge!!!!! Is this another excitement I can look forward to as I enter the late summer of life ...a whole hedge to be trimmed as oppose to a neat heart shaped bush. I'll have to look up topiary designs right now!!!!!

MissAdventure Tue 03-May-22 09:24:08

grin

Blossoming Tue 03-May-22 09:22:33

Over your shoulders!!! I can’t even lift them as far as the ankles.

choughdancer Tue 03-May-22 09:19:54

The last time I was called 'elderly' was when I was thirty-five and having my first baby! But now I'm 67 I feel (fairly) content with who I am, and really don't mind being described as old or elderly. I amuse my granddaughter by saying 'I am a ve-rr-y o-o-o-old la-a-a-ady' when she beats me (as she always does!) at Uno!

FannyCornforth Tue 03-May-22 09:18:51

I was referred to as The Old Woman in a coffee shop on Saturday. I was the only one in so no mistaking it, not pleased but no offence taken.

Dear me. That is so ill mannered.
Nothing wrong with being old or a woman; but it would be like saying ‘the black man’, or ‘the thin girl’.

About twenty years ago, a teenager nearly cycled into me outside the shops.
His mate called out, ‘watch that old woman!’
I was 32!

Naughtyneine Tue 03-May-22 09:06:15

Sago...as they do tend to fly off easily ...I think I'd have to say no... How do you explain in A and E that as you flung your legs over your your shoulders and your crocs flew off and blacked both of your DOH eyes!!!!! Just saying
