Why don’t men sit down to pee?

The mum did.
She had been asleep in bed, rollers in, teeth out, wearing her best christmas nightie!
Just woke up in time to see something looming over her head.

Mr B always sits if he can after he was in hospital with a serious kidney problem. He was told that women who sit or squat are more effect at emptying their bladder. He also finds it more comfortable as he is always ready to have a rest!

I'm sure I've told this before, but my friend used to go round to her mums and stay for the whole of christmas.
All the family together; daughters, son in laws, children.

On christmas eve my friend woke up to her mum screaming "Aaah! Quick, quick! Terry's in my room and he's got his thing out!"

My friends husband had wandered into her mums room a bit tipsy, and was standing over her mum, about to do a wee

It is a huge source of conflict here.
I find it very difficult not to want to bash the phantom piddler.

What never ceases to amaze me is that no matter how many years a man has been standing and pointing, they never get good enough at it not to sometimes wee on the floor.

My Dh is meticulous and has never left anything for me wipe up, I’m thankful to say. My sons were also thoroughly housetrained to remember to put down the lid of the loo to avoid a ‘toilet plume’.

Sadly, since they left home they seem to have forgotten the rules so I tell them they’re in my house now, not their own.

Interesting. Do men, those who urinate in a standing position, actually realise that they splash the back of the pan and drip in front of the lavatory? If I did that, I’d clean up after me ………

I thought that a standing position helps to empty their bladder completely.

As a mere male I can confirm that this is so.

Further, as a fast ageing male, I can advise that issues with the prostate at night exacerbate that problem.

Mollygo, it was Michael Caine who said John Wayne advised him not to wear suede shoes, because of men turning towards him in urinals.

And how the world has moved on. I never thought I'd see someone proudly aver "I always hover in public toilets" without risking prosecution!

I discovered the purpose of the washable loo mat when we moved into a house with a carpet in the cloakroom ( having never previously lived anywhere with a carpeted toilet)! It’s to protect the carpet and catch the splashes, before regular washing. So that particular mat has a function after all. The previous owner kindly left the mat in place ready for us!

Convenience I’d say.

Blimey ive never thought about it but now its mentioned I guess its coz thats the way it is.

I have a son and never gave it a second thought that it was something I should teach him, I guess I assumed he would learn soon enough and follow suit with all the other lads !

Im saying I never taught him, I may have done its over 35 years ago...

I'm sure if they are doing a No.2 they would probably do a No.1 at the same time, sitting down, not alternate between sitting and standing. Can't believe I am actually contributing that sentence to this thread.

Or those bathroom floor sets/mats complete with toilet lid cover, all in a matching colour. What must they harbour? Yuck.

We also moved into a house with fitted, carpeted, bathrooms.
One of the first things to be ripped out.

Is it to do with a primal requirement as cavemen to be on the look out for dangerous animals and aggressors... sitting down would make that more difficult...But I guess they would still have needed to squat for pooing so that doesn't make sense...lol!

I also hover in public toilets BlueBelle but when I started this thread I was thinking of male behaviour at home. It would be much cleaner/healthier if we trained boys to sit down, or am I missing something?

They get so used to spraying the countryside when out and about they automatically stand however I stand for public toilets I ve got strong thighs so I do a good old hover

We had moved into an exclusive development, and I insisted on a tiled floor. It didn’t take long for the carpets to be ripped out in the other apartments.

Good question BigBertha and why having put the seat and lid down for more than 30 years, is Mr. S. no longer able to do so.

Reminds me of the time that I was toilet training my son.
For most of the week, he was surrounded by women - me, my mum and my sister, who all sat down to pee - he'd seen it happen many times when he had barged into the bathroom !
My dad and brothers only used to be around at weekends, due to work commitments and no matter how many times I told DS that boys peed standing up, he wouldn't agree - until he happened to barge in on my brother one day !
Problem solved !
PS I don't know what he does now, in his 30s - he stopped me going in the bathroom at the same time as him when he was 13!!!

Anyone who’s seen the film The Fully Monty will recall the woman urinating standing up. I believe it can be practiced, preferably not in my house though!
