Johnny Depp / Amber Heard Defamation Trial

Is anyone watching this?

Do you think Amber Heard is telling the truth about being abused by Johnny Depp or is she the abuser?

Obviously there are two sides to every story but I am inclined to be Team Johnny. He doesn't come across as a violent man, more a man who was frustrated at being baited and who then took his anger out on inanimate objects.

Amber Heard comes across as a manipulator. Why would she be recording all of the conversations anyway.

I could go on but just wonder what the Gransnetters thought.

All through the trial i was saying to my husband, things like, well that's obviously the same picture edited, why is she lying? That makeup kit didnt exist then, why is she lying?

And basically, she has a case without lying so why is she lying? Is she suggesting that every witness for him and her own ex friends are all lying? Whynisbthe most horrific act she accuses him of the same night he lost a finger tip? What on earth is going on with that tissue? Why is she countersuing twice as much?

I think she would have won otherwise honestly

VioletSky Fri 03-Jun-22 12:29:56

I think Amber needed an excuse as to why she had hit him.

I don't remember a rumour about Depp pushing Moss down the stairs...

It seems odd that Amber knew that rumour but hadn't ever mentioned it until now.

What it suggests is that she was looking for evidence he was abusuve to exes just before the trial.

The reason Kate Moss testified, was because Amber Heard alleged that he had pushed her down some stairs, when in fact she had slipped because it had been raining, the stairs were on the outside of a building.

... and in fact Kate Moss said that Johnny Depp had gone on ahead, but when she slipped on the steps and screamed out in pain, he ran back and carried her up to her room and summoned medical help for her.

I'm confused as to why Kate Moss was trollied out but not one of his former wives! I think it is quite easy to manipulate your audience if you pick the right people to give you a character reference too <shrugs>

Neither of them come out of this well it sounded a thoroughly toxic relationship. Even though much has been exposed in video clips, I still would have hated to make a judgement, I do think some people bring out the worst in each other, very much the case here I imagine.

I really liked him once, thought he made some great quirky films Ed Wood and What's Eating Gilbert Grape to name but two. Apropos of Kate Moss's testimonial I Googled their early days together they were such a beautiful pair, all chiseled jaws and high cheekbones, but I think they led a rather drink/drug fuelled existence by all accounts. Kate is wisely leading a quieter life these days and still looks great imo, but Jonny not so good now.

UK High Court’s Justice Andrew Nicol confirmed that 12 of 14 instances of domestic violence against Heard occurred, and used that as evidence to rule against Depp. Neither was a domestic violence case, but the first one confirmed that is indeed what happened. And while Heard may have lost the wider defamation case in the latest trial – in which Depp sought $50m in damages – she was also awarded $2m for Depp’s lawyer calling her abuse allegations “a hoax”. On this side of the Pond, Depp then, legally, is a known domestic abuser. These don’t sound like the actions of a “serious hero”.

The real problem isn’t that violence by women to men isn’t publicised. It’s that two women a week are murdered by men. This awful trial has shown what a dysfunctional drug/addled abusive toxic relationship this was.
Herd was abusive. Depp was abusive. He may have ‘won’ in thst he is likely to get film work and she won’t. It’s Hollywood and disgusting. Is it ok to be drug and alcohol addled ,fighting eyx

I wasn't aware you were a juror at the trial, VANECAM.

As it has been videos, it has been shown on the internet. Virtually everything the jury saw, so did the public if they were that interested.
Men are often too scared of being disbelieved or seen as wimps if they complain about DV but it is a real problem which is not publicised half as much as DV against women. I should imagine for somebody in Johnny Depp's position it would have been extremely hard to be open about what he was experiencing which has been admitted by Amber Heard in Court. She was shown to be a liar in the court but whether that means Johnny Depp was entirely innocent is moot. But if he was innocent of DV should he not have protested that because it might put the Women's anti-DV movement back or risk women not being believed?

She's going to appeal so it will be all over the press again.

I think that those of us that have loved the iconic screen characters that he has played don’t want to believe in this other side of him as it taints our memories of some of our favourite films. I do wonder if it affected the trial also. I think both of them have just been acting throughout but find it hard to believe that he wasn’t actually violent towards her. I feel very uneasy about this verdict.

I agree. As someone else on here has said, unpleasant people can still suffer DV.

He has huge fame. And he has courted it to sway opinion. It was never a fair fight.

It just goes on and on. And women defend these men.

Clearly you didn’t see the evidence.

Miss Heard was unable to provide a truthful account and instead made a shocking attempt to mislead the court. A terrible terrible liar.

In the end her legal team had very little to work with as more and more of her deceit was exposed.

I think our thoughts have taken the same path watching

I have always been a no smoke without fire person, even with my mother who sounds very much like yours.

The damage this does to female victims is staggering honestly but i don't blame Depp for that at this point

I think all this stems, for both of them really, in their own abuseive childhoods

icanhandthemback Thu 02-Jun-22 14:24:35

Its just awful because abusers often paint themselves as the real victim. Seen that first hand.

Me too. My own mother has been the petitioner in 3 divorces and in each of them she has accused the Respondent of doing what she has actually done. On 2 out of 3 of those cases, she alleged domestic violence. She maintained that her husband had knocked her front teeth out and had the dental evidence to prove it. What the court didn't know was that she attacked her husband with a tin opener and he knocked her hand up so it wouldn't hit him. In doing so, it caught her teeth and the blow caused them to abscess so they had to be Crowned. I was there and watched the whole thing play out but was too young to appear in court to give evidence.
As someone who has been the subject of DV myself and have had to defend my story in court, I was more than happy to believe Amber Heard. However, as I watched her give evidence and listen to the audio tapes, I was reminded of my narcissistic parent and her victims.
They were obviously both toxic for each other but it does appear that Depps previous partners were not subjected to DV so it does make you wonder what was different in this relationship. I don't think either of them are winners really.

jaylucy Thu 02-Jun-22 14:22:33

I think partially. There were occasions when I thought she seemed to be embroidering the story a bit.
They obviously weren't suited and brought out the worst in each other and taking it into court really didn't do them any favours - I can't understand why, during such a personal time that cameras were allowed in the court room. It was all a bit tit for tat.

mokryna Thu 02-Jun-22 14:18:05

Although Heard may not be completely innocent, the court case was in the USA and the jury were mainly 5 men and only 2 women. He had more money to fight a Darvo case.
Every woman will fear taking their sexual assault and domestic violence to court.

How do you disentangle someone retaliating? When my ex was violent, a few times, I pushed him or threw something at him. I never initiated and this behaviour hasn't manifested in any other relationship. Suggesting women can't fight back is akin to telling them not to fight back when they're being raped.

I also think most of what we have read has been filtered through a woman hating media. I've read pro-Amber reports that refute a lot of what has been held up as 'evidence' against her. But you'd never see that stuff in the mainstream media. It doesn't fit the dominant narrative.

I watched her give evidence GagaJo. She initiated a number of the incidents, she deliberately provoked him, and said so in court. I don’t think there’s any doubt that she isn’t a typical victim, she is also a perpetrator. I don’t know what the answer is, as I said earlier, but this case can’t be viewed as a simple male against female domestic abuse case.

GrannyClampet64 Thu 02-Jun-22 13:54:47

My gut instinct says she wasn't being truthful. Truth will always win in the end.

spottybook Thu 02-Jun-22 13:43:21

Vile man. We were on the Eastern and Oriental Express at the same time they were on their honeymoon. I was standing in the observation car at the back when he and his bodyguard nudged me out of the way so he could smoke his vile cheroots. I had no idea who he was until someone told me!

VioletSky Thu 02-Jun-22 13:29:52

I havent really read anything, ive had the trial on live while cooking etc on Sky

I watched very closely

My take is that the relationship was toxic.

I think Depp could be controling and abusive fueled by substances but there is evidence she was unfaithful.

I think Amber was the more abusive one, mentally and physically and triggered him with behaviour like his mum.

When he was trying to be sober she drank and did drugs in front of him.

All his exes say he was not abusive.

The audio recordings of her winding him up and him trying to leave, she sounded demented.

All the things she said that evidence show are lies, especially the edited photos.

Her demeaner in this trial versus her demeanor in the last where she was haughty and sarcastic.

The fact that I have never met an abuse sirvivor who could easily maintain eyecontact while recounting it, let alone with a jury.

The fact that she was recorded telling him to tell the world she was abusive because no one would believe him and then she, got in there first so to speak.

Recordings of her admitting to physical abuse.

Lots of things I cant remember this second.... I think the result was the correct one.

However what terrifies me is the damage this will now do to women.

What i hope is that reallistically, we should believe abuse survivors, male and female in future

Its just awful because abusers often paint themselves as the real victim. Seen that first hand.

Do you recognise that she was also guilty of domestic abuse GagaJo? I’m not defending him, however she is also culpable. I’d like to know how you view that?
