I’m with Marydoll and regularly wear scarves or various colours. ?

Unplucked, straggly eyebrows.

The most ageing thing to me is not what you wear or how you do your hair.
It is having a closed mind to new ideas and experiences .

I have enjoyed this thread - but must warn against referring to anything as 'trendy' - my DD (33) always picks me up on this and says it makes me sound old! I went to meet my sisters in London a couple of weeks back wearing a subtle leopard print summer dress, denim jacket and white sneakers - felt comfortable and smart but realised this is a middle aged (well I am 68!) uniform! Two women in front of me on the train dressed almost identically and countless others spotted during the course of the day!

Careful, you'll start off Sneakergate again.

I got into trouble when I pointed out that white trainers worn with dresses is starting to look like a middleaged uniform.

A lot of makeup makes women look older as do bright coloured nails which make old hands look like claws. Old fashioned clothes and shoes don’t help either plus dyed hair when it obviously isn’t natural!

I don't agree about bright nail polish.
I read somewhere that wearing a pale nail polish causes people to look at your hands, whereas if you wear a bright coloured nail polish people notice your nails first instead of your hands

I bought my first Radley bag when I was 25.
I was extremely proud of it as it was £££
Still in use (special occasions) today.

I love Radley bags.
I buy the matching purses as well.
They're really well made.

Things that make you look older than your years - old women bitching about what other old women are wearing. Makes me want to get some pastel fleecies, polyester pleated skirts and hotter shoes to cover my overweight unpleasant bulges and set off my blunt haircut.The fashion industry is killing our planet and ruining the future for our young people. Stop being superficial and superior and get a life even though it's rather late in the day.

I love pale pink nail varnish and worse still, pale pink shimmering lipstick. Think Patti Boyd. However currently wearing light brown eye shadow and lipstick. I have every colour nail polish and preference is Revlon Red and OPI fuschia pink. Tried denim blue and looked ridiculous.

Just to balance things up for those who think we are being judgmental about our own sex, we could have a thread on what we find ageing about men?
Many of us are interested in clothes (not fashion trends) and find it can be life enhancing. Geniuses like Oscar Wilde and Wagner were intensely interested in their garb and if it was good enough for them, it’s good enough for me!
My younger sister refused to watch a Miss Marple tv programme with me as something for old people lol.

Me! Many of my clothes were bought between 96-01, so old cut jeans, scuffed sandals in summer (comfy), OH hates make up and I don't know how to put it on, so don't wear it. Same hairstyle since age 17, suited me then and suits me now. Am I 'matronly'? Possibly but I am comfy and couldn't care less what people think of me! My clothes rend to be dull colours because that is what I feel safe in so stuff anyone else...oh and I'm not near 60 yet...

Once he was wearing beige - most disappointing!

I like Michael Portillo to - now he knows how to wear colour! Colour clashing blazers and trousers ..... wonderful to see!!!

I have stopped wearing black close to my face as I think it can make you look drained. On the rare occasion I do wear a black top I usually also wear a bright scarf

I tend to wear shirts/blouses these days rather than t shirts as they don't cling to ever lump and bump - and I have quite a few of those. I wear them with leggings, cropped trousers (narrow) or slim leg trousers.

I do like the way Prue Leith dresses with all the bright colours and chunky jewellery.

Hyacinth Bucket on the other hand, she always looked older than her years even when the series came out in 1990. Patricia Routledge (who played her) must have only been in her early 50's when the series started. My MIL still dresses like this and has done for the last 30 years.

Just browsing through the posts and saw this one. Patricia Routledge was 60+ when the series started. Born February 1929.

I like Michael Portillo now he is doing trains, but I was there at that 'Portillo' moment which we still occasionally replay.
