Enough with the jubilee already.

The celebrations haven’t started yet and I’m already fed up with them.
I bought a loaf of bread yesterday and it had a silver crown on it and a jubilee message. When I think of the cost of redesign and printing a new message, it must impact on the price I’m paying.
Then I’ve just seen the itinerary for next week and I’m bemused by the timetable.
There’s a glorious fly past again with 40 planes and helicopters etc. I always remember my husband laughing at previous fly pasts as the UK has such a paucity of planes to do it that some of them were training planes and clapped out aircraft to bulk up the numbers.
I also didn’t realise the bank holidays were Thursday and Friday.
Oh well soon be over and we can have an in depth examination of Meghan and Harry and what they did/didn’t do, who wore what and how much did it cost etc. Ammunition for news articles for months and posts on gransnet.
Bring it on.

Hi Not a Gran, good for you if that’s what you want to do. But what a pity you don’t do this sort of thing every week. We tend to meet up with friends at least twice every week. In a pub usually, different ones at different times. Sometimes we might go and see rock bands, What fun the eight to ten of us have every week

I found that the scientists (well, most of them) tended to be the ones speaking sense. Including volver of course.?

?

Hear hear. There were plenty others too. To say the queen was the only one is actually hilarious !

Mixed allegiances! Although no supporter of the monarchy, I will call into the street party to be social with my neighbours. I will then return home to join my husband’s Republic party

Seem to have hit a nerve Lucca.

Is that a rather nasty comment ? If you bothered to read my posts you would see why I am irritated by being called miserable by posters who just assume that not attending a party roe being massively interested in the RF makes me grumpy, miserable or unpatriotic. It doesn’t and it’s fine for those who love it.

I won’t actually be miserable as I will be at the coast with my family having a lot of fun. If we see a street party we will smile and wave, so hardly killjoys.

Oh and finally, not being a passionate royalist doesn’t mean I want Putin Trump or Corbyn (what has he got to do with it anyway?!) as President. That’s just silly.

I’m quite fond of our Queen and I’m quite happy with the celebrations of her 70 years on the throne.
I live in a pretty Cotswold village and I must say it’s looking rather fabulous with all the bunting etc.I’ve made a few extra trips to the village just to have another look at it lol ?

Nobody is criticising those that want to wave a flag and eat trifle so why the negativity towards those that want to do other things on that day.

My point exactly.

I have just rejoined GN after a trip into town, which was not the usual cheerful experience, so many shops closed, and not many shoppers, as people don't have much spare cash.

These two comments had me laughing.

During the pandemic. She was the only person who spoke any sense at all!

How many people have sacrificed their lives to the service of others for this length of time

Really??

i am glad i live in the shameful city of glasgow, according to one tory mp who blasted the glasgow council for not putting on a jubilee event. even though the area i live in has a large open space and 53 houses that could easily hold a party, nobody is interested. most people will still have to work and those with children it will just be another day they need to sort out childcare.

The tree we're planting for the Queen's green canopy appeal arrived today so we'll be able to do an official 'planting' at just the right time. It's a Prunus so we'll be able to remember the jubilee every time it flowers. It's been a joint project for the nieghbours.
We'll be having a lovely celebration.

CoolCoco Mon 30-May-22 17:16:37

I don't think she's "sacrificed her life" either.

CoolCoco Mon 30-May-22 17:15:27

A huge achievement?? All she has to do is stay alive to be queen.

Hithere Mon 30-May-22 17:13:15

All this money wasted ‐ instead of being wisely invested in the community

NanaandGrampy Mon 30-May-22 17:10:27

I'm going to enjoy every second of it , its a once in a lifetime event and a huge achievement by anyone's standards.

I can't believe anyone can begrudge celebrating the Queens life of service.

CazB Mon 30-May-22 17:04:51

I suspect the Queen will heave a sigh of relief when it's all over, especially the concert if it's anything like the last one.

Grany Mon 30-May-22 16:43:02

I think it’s always worth remembering at times like these that the second, Biblical meaning of ‘Jubilee’ was the erasure of all debt and a total and equal redistribution of land and wealth

My daughter and son in law and grandson are also arriving on Friday from Australia. We haven't seen them for over 4 years so thats our celebration. cheers to the queen though bless her!!

volver Mon 30-May-22 16:28:00

I'm seriously starting to doubt the comprehension abilities of some people on this site. No doubts about how rude people are though.

CarrieAnn Mon 30-May-22 16:26:32

What a lot of miseries you are!I'm looking, ing forward to the festivities, I remember the Coronation, playing games in the rain, jelly and ice cream and a magician and fireworks later. We are having a small garden party for our disabled son who was 50 in April, but we all had Covid at the time,so we are now combining the two events together. Just praying for a dry day on Friday

JMcD Mon 30-May-22 16:17:53

What a load of grumbling grannies! How many people have sacrificed their lives to the service of others for this length of time?! I wouldn’t have wanted the Queens ‘job’ for all the tea in China!
After the terrible past 2 years isn’t it nice to have something to celebrate? Come on lighten up!

People representing a cross section of the British public?

As for the nasty comments. Are they the ones telling people they are miserable and mean and don't know how to enjoy themselves?

Its interesting though. Maybe there are more people who are fed up of the Jubilee than are dreamt of in your philosophy..

Who would have thought that a post about the Jubilee could unleash such emotiveand in some cases, quite nasty comments! On FB yes, I would have expected it but not here. Makes me wonder who exactly joins this site.

I mean, come on.

We're in fantasy land now.

Joseanne Mon 30-May-22 16:09:19

You're right Netty21 supply and demand. I'm sure no one will suggest it is the Queen's fault!
