Enough with the jubilee already.

The celebrations haven’t started yet and I’m already fed up with them.
I bought a loaf of bread yesterday and it had a silver crown on it and a jubilee message. When I think of the cost of redesign and printing a new message, it must impact on the price I’m paying.
Then I’ve just seen the itinerary for next week and I’m bemused by the timetable.
There’s a glorious fly past again with 40 planes and helicopters etc. I always remember my husband laughing at previous fly pasts as the UK has such a paucity of planes to do it that some of them were training planes and clapped out aircraft to bulk up the numbers.
I also didn’t realise the bank holidays were Thursday and Friday.
Oh well soon be over and we can have an in depth examination of Meghan and Harry and what they did/didn’t do, who wore what and how much did it cost etc. Ammunition for news articles for months and posts on gransnet.
Bring it on.

What a curmudgeonly lot on here. Well I think it’s a joyous occasion! Schoolchildren have been making crowns & enjoying class picnics. It’s an historic occasion and the timing of the June BHs hopefully ensure some sunshine for all who’d like to participate. Himself has just tied 2 Union Jacks in a ✖️ on our verandah. They look cheerful and celebratory in our town centre setting. I like this postbox topper outside on our road. I love the knitted pearls and on the other side is a knitted corgi dog!

I'm with the party animals, the fun lovers and the merrymakers. I will enjoy a feast for the senses ... colours, music, foods, costumes etc. Whether the Queen herself actually crosses my mind much is another matter!
But first it's another favourite of mine today ... Monaco Grand Prix. ??

if there's one thing I hate it's enforced jollity and bunting. Have your street parties, nobody's stopping you. But we don't all have to join in.

Well, I shall enjoy watching Trooping The Colour, the fly past, the service at Westminster Abbey…..

If it doesn’t interest you, that’s fine. Looking at the travel chaos at Dover and elsewhere, I am pleased to be able to sit and enjoy it quietly at home, and not feel the need to dash off and escape the celebrations.

Whatever your thoughts on the monarchy and the Queen, this is a piece of history that no one, even the tiniest baby, will see again.

enforced jollity
It comes naturally to some, not enforced at all. And no one has to attend so what are you on about?

Urmstongran Sun 29-May-22 07:25:16

Yay!

Joseanne Sun 29-May-22 07:27:35

I've got blue trousers and a white top ready. Any suggestions for something red?

On this thread those of us who don't want to join in the flag waving have been called miserable and curmudgeonly. Because we don't want to join in the enforced jollity.

One reason for the jubilee celebrations - Brits love an excuse to start drinking at 11 a.m.

notgran Sun 29-May-22 07:33:28

Joseanne, how about a red baseball hat or similar titfer. I got a Union Jack Bowler hat (obviously plastic) which I rather love and wish I had considered wearing a Bowler Hat years ago wink It is lovely this post has now taken a more positive fun turn.

notgran Sun 29-May-22 07:34:51

vegansrock, I missed that rule, do I have to wait until 11am to start drinking then, shame smile

Joseanne Sun 29-May-22 07:36:20

Oh OK, fair enough volver. Personally I prefer to encourage others by enthusiasm and persuasion.
Thanks Calendargirl, I might have a red pashmina somewhere. A red bowler would suit my DH though!

Thanks notgran. The puppy has a bandana.
By the way, he is one today! Another celebration!

Here he is at his 1st birthday party yesterday with his 9 siblings and his mummy. Complete chaos. We have trained him to be a great lover of fun!

We are having a huge street party which we shall attend. As someone said it is an opportunity to meet the neighbours after being stuck at home for two years. It is something the children will remember for the rest of their lives.

Has anybody seen the picture of the little boy who had to dress up for school jubilee events and went as a striking miner from 1984? Or the little girl who went as a pict? ??

Serendipity22 Sun 29-May-22 08:07:41

Well I for 1 want to celebrate, I want to be part of it, we won't see this again in our lifetime.

The village next to us are having celebrations which we will go to, I havent planned anything myself because we have visitors Wednesday-Saturday so to add a jubilee celebration on top of being the hostess with the mostesss would be too much but I cant let the day pass without doing something, it's a day to be proud, to celebrate 70 years on the throne, well it is in my view. smilesmilesmile ??

Street parties bring back memories of the Silver Jubilee when neighbours organised one and expected everybody to contribute and join in. Now I couldn’t do neither as my then DH was dead against any such thing, as well as we could hardly spare the cash. Having two young children who wanted to join in the celebrations, I was between the devil and the deep blue sea. In the end myself and the boys went, causing another major row. sad

nadateturbe Sun 29-May-22 08:15:05

I'm not miserable or curmudgeonly.
I love an excuse for a party.
I just don't see the jubilee as one.
I'm glad to see others feel the same.

merlotgran Sun 29-May-22 08:20:22

I love the exasperated expression on the face of the striking miner (or should that be minor?)
